Tooling around Kentucky on a warm summer's day and having crossed the Ohio without too much difficulty I figured I'd have a go here as well. Another nice drive through the countryside to get here broken up by the purr of choppers cruising through the woods and hills and other woods on the way to their secret club house... town is small by any standards so don't wreck it by touristing badly.
The four lane will get you close heading north or south, a two lane most of the rest - unless your coming from Reed's ferry but that's a whole different story entirely. the Rochester Ferry puts out across the Green River north of town and is maintained by the residents of the Commonwealth intent on sharing the common wealth I guess...
hours of operation are posted as dawn as to dusk so long as long as the weather cooperates; trying to argue the point will just make a person look foolish. also, despite being camera-shy the ferryman is friendly and helpful to the intrepid traveler sharing directions to points of interest near and far, doesn't mind repeating himself but if there's folks wanting crossed he's gotta take 'em. other than the ferry itself I'm not sure what the draw is here, but if your needing to cross the ferry will help to keep you on schedule :-) read more
