Speaking as a visitor, the faculty are awful. You ask for help? They cuss you out. You ask a reasonable question? They cuss you out. You try to comply with their demands, they cuss you out for not doing it fast enough. Extremely rude and unreasonable. Also: YOU have to year a mask. THEY don't. They make you fill out a self test before visiting the campus and wear a mask at all times. But they don't wear masks. read more

We came to drop our son off at RCTC and the campus is beautiful! Very green, lots of trees and lots of ducks on the lawn! Lots of Covid protocols, mandatory masks, sanitizer stations EVERYWHERE, and seen people cleaning and sanitizing desks etc. All employees were kind and welcoming. Go Yellowjackets!! read more

Overall, I received a pretty good education at RCTC! I was able to take a lot of my science prerequisite classes here and still get into a top-ranked graduate school for my program. Even better, I picked up some nice scholarships along the way, had some excellent professors, and made some great friends and contacts. The big problem is advising: there are not enough advisors and sometimes classes can be tough to get into. It pays to be self-motivated here in all respects (both for schoolwork as well as planning). Look at the dates and deadlines and plan your education out far in advance so you can finish on time to get into the program you desire. The other problem is the food on campus. It's getting better, but it's still not fantastic (other than the delicious deli sandwiches at the cafe...fresh, made to order! Yum!). I have already graduated from a four year private college in Minneapolis and returned back home to Rochester to take missing math and science courses needed for graduate school. Applying for RCTC was a simple process. The most frustrating part of RCTC is the admissions and applying for class. I must always catch the receptionist on their bad days because I had many hiccups about advising. I have called in and walked into the office in person to talk to my advisor, but found appointments have be made ahead of time in order to speak to any advisor. My biggest peeve was when I was told I was not able to speak to anyone for two weeks because their schedules were booked solid in the middle of winter. I ended up booking my appointment at their earliest convenience to come find out the day of the appointment, I wasn't on the schedule. I was furious nobody gave me apology and they said it was not their fault that my name wasn't on the schedule. I did meet with another advisor 45 minutes later and got my registration sorted out. I would say what the classes and the teachers definitely were knowledgable and more than happy to help you find extra resources outside the classroom. I came to a few teachers who went far and beyond their way to make sure students were able to understand concepts and ideas and pass their class by setting up study groups after class and sat in with the group preparing for exams. While the administration side has a bit of slack they need to pick up on to keep up with the needs of their students. Classes are reasonably priced and taught by excellent teachers. Be prepared for long waits when meeting your advisors when applying for classes. And always double check with the receptionist about any appointment you have made, so they don't end up forgetting you like they did to me. read more
