The outer walls of the store are lined with the artful display of fruit while the floor space is full of wooden platforms upon which rest loads of fresh produce. All fruit markets seem to have this open feeling and are always pleasantly cool no matter the temperature outside, but it's so obvious that care has been taken to make this one aesthetically pleasing, which gives it a little something extra.

It has a bit of a warehouse feel, and some clearance sales lying around, but also a fairly respectable selection, including things that aren't all that easy to find; some nice vegetarian specialty items and a decent international section. They have ample fresh fruits and vegetables and a lot of dried beans and grains, so we're not talking unhealthy food either. The location is reasonably convenient, near the hospital with ample bus access and a train station on the other side of the hospital. I've gotta say, I was pretty impressed with the range and presentation of fruit and veg. Tucked just inside a Spar-owned shopping centre, Mother of All Fruits occupies a huge floor space. Most of this is taken up by rows of fresh produce, but there's also a section for packaged and frozen goods. The range of fruit and veg is great and their herbs come in huge bunches for around $2.95 each. There are also lots of "bucket" specials to be had where you get a reduced price for buying a large amount. For $30, I filled a green bag and walked out with a tray of 20 bowen mangoes. Pretty good value, especially the $10 tray of mangoes. Whilst extremely well organised and well presented, the only thing I don't like about this produce store is that it feels a little too much like a supermarket. I remain faithful to the Gabba Fruit Market, which has a more local feel to it and has a less hectic carpark.

This is especially obvious during the summer months when you can buy cheap trays of mangoes and also year round with their avocadoes. While I wouldn't recommend driving across town purely for this greengrocer, residents of Eight Mile Plains, Sunnybank, Macgregor, Wishart and even Mount Gravatt should give this place a yelp.

It's always full of customers even though it stands directly opposite Woolworths, and has plenty of produce on offer at great prices. What I love about these markets is that they have cheap, fresh produce. You won't find macaroons, Greek yoghurt, fancy dips on tasting spoons or the mushroom man. This market keeps things simple with cheap bundles of Vietnamese herbs, boxes of sweet smelling tomatoes and a huge range of fruit and flowering plants at ridiculously low prices. Once you've loade dup your car with the weekly groceries, there's also second hand toys, clothes and books to rummage through. Best of all, you don't have to wake up too early for these markets. It goes until midday - although you may want to get their earlier to catch the bargains.

The fruit and veg there is a bit too pricey for me, but the quality is good and all the food is displayed well. Staff are extremely friendly, making this a pleasant place to shop and with a baker and butcher either side, it's conveniently placed. I would say it's a good place to shop for a weekend treat or special picnic.

I will confess that a visit to the butcher isn't exactly part of my daily routine, in fact I think…read moreit's been years since I've been to one. I seem to recall that on my last visit to a butcher I was wearing my elementary school uniform and still referring to someone as 'mummy'. However, I still have a little bit of knowledge on the subject and I know for a fact that this particular butchery is big. I can only think of one other in Brisbane that may be larger (Patton's Big Gun in Underwood). The large room is spacious but lined with fridges full of every cut of meat under the sun (or protected from it in air-conditioned comfort). I didn't see any exotic meats, it was mainly variations of pork, chicken and beef, but they came in any shape or form you could possibly want. The room at the back where they prepare and package everything is also visible from the front, which I find somewhat comforting as well as a little gross to look at.
