Have you ever done the, "make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich" dance? If you haven't, you should. You grab the ingredients, you spread on the toppings with both arms, and you dance it all around. That is how we got warmed up to race. Parking, at 7:15 was fast and right across the street: $10 Packet pick-up: Easy cheesy. Porto potties: At least they had them, right? Bag check: Free! They have a security guard watching over them. Obstacles: An adult playground. There was a back-up at the first obstacle, as they wanted people to get into groups of 8. That wasn't working, so it was more like awkward waves. A large bouncy pad with about 6 semi-tall barriers you launch yourself over. It was surprisingly challenging. There were: Two elevated slip & slides into shallow pools of water. One was supposed to have foam but it wasn't pumping correctly. A huge swirling cross pad, you had to run with it or against it along a narrow platform. Inflated balls that you had to balance and jump across. I made it onto the first one and couldn't stand up to launch to the next, so I flung off the side and laughed as I bounced to the ground. An inner tube water slide into a pool of water. A leap of faith onto an inflated bulls eye. Two huge rotating balls that chased you, as you tried to run across a slippery plank. I almost made it but lost my footing on the last step, splooosh! Two large stair/rope climbs to slides. The last one will give you a wedge. We only waited a couple of minutes to take an optional finisher photo and they handed us our medals. I love the photo opportunities, you scan your bracelet before you get onto the obstacle and they snap a picture of you. Bouncy, bouncy,..fun, fun, fun, fun, fun. read more

My 3rd year doing this and second at this location, safe to say I won't be doing it again. - ''Jump balls'' were not inflated properly. As soon as I stepped onto it I sunk so far I could feel the ground underneath my feet. I'm not exactly heavy either at 102lb. ''Jumping'' from one to the other was in no way possible nor an option. That's some lass ass bs excuse of an obstacle. Previous years this has been my favorite. - No foam on the ''Foam of Fury'', just water. Seriously?! - Not enough water on the ''Cool'' Running's''. Out of the 40 or so people that I saw tried to go down it they all had to get off and walk to the the end (where you are supposed to land in the pool) because friction had them stop. Myself included. Lame. - VIP entry I got my tech shirt upgrade but Hubs didn't. + You actually got a medal this year. + Vendors after the event handing out drinks. Neutral: You had a tag on your wristband which you swipe at obstacles to indicate you wanted your picture taken. I'm neutral on this because for the price of the registration fee I feel this should be included. My advice for the event organizers - Have the obstacles as advertised and either 1. reduce the price of registration (upwards of $65 plus fee's for a 5k is obscene) 2. Add more obstacles. read more

Husband and I dressed up as yellow duck team (his favorite of course). We signed up for 9:30 run, I'm glad for the weather was just perfect. It was crowded and we have to wait for our turn to be in for the next batch. A little bit warm up and get to know your group and then they will let you go. Your pace is yours. Run, walk, jump, bounce, slide, splash, smash! It was fun and I really enjoyed it! I will do it again and I wish there's more obstacles to do. It's pretty organized event and I dropped my car key too. I thought I lost it in the water. A good wipeout runner got it and brought it to the attention of lost and found. What a relief! So a friend and I signed up for the race and it was pretty good. We had the 10:30 am start and now that I have done one of these I know now I need to start the earliest one if possible. There was so many people waiting and if you want to breeze through the course in a timely manner you want to be the earliest. The lines started getting 30-100 people deep at certain parts of the race. THIS IS NOT A RACE BTW...JUST A FUN RUN. There were 7 obstacles. None very challenging except for the wrecking ball, and the "Big Red Balls" ... It didn't even feel like a 5k to be honest. We did start late for some reason :( It wasn't very organized from what I can tell and the lines again were crazy stupid. All in all worth the $$$ ... I got my ticket on groupon! I am probably echoing others for the same things, but here's my point of view. Overall, the race and obstacles were a lot of fun. The one thing I would change is the packet pick up as others have addressed. That particular Sports Authority they chose to utilize has a parking lot that is super small and a pain in the butt to get to on a Friday night for anyone north of there. Also, I still don't know why the lines (at 6pm) were so long. I found out after checking my email, I too, should have received more items since I also signed up in the initial registration. I ended picking up the extra stuff the day of the race, so that worked out, but it was a little uncoordinated and people who work with the even never seem to have an answer. Race parking was fine ($10) or free if you just parked up the street or so. I arrived around 9:15 to check things out even though my race wave was 10:30am. Around 9:45, they started announcing the 10am and 10:30am to line up. Apparently, they were grouping folks together, but left that information out. Considering how long the course was (just about 3 miles) and the obstacle line delays (jumping balls, some of the slides), I am happy I went at 10am. The Fairgrounds is a tricky place for a race. I've done a few here before and it's always hot because of the dirt. There were two water stations, but when you asked the volunteers, they had no idea where they were or when they were. Each obstacle had water for their workers I assume, so I just asked them for a bottle towards the end even though there was a water stop right before the next to last challenge. (I had asked them and they had no idea) I loved the tech tee for signing up early since the white standard shirts looked like they would shrink. I met some really great folks along they way who may have thought every obstacle would be water vs. the last 3-4 were. Overall, this race was fun and I had a great workout. I'm still sore two days later even though I enter 10k's pretty regularly. Of course there are things they can improve upon, but overall, not bad. I do agree with some people that feel we got ripped off for signing up early only to see Groupon's and many other advertisements for cheaper costs. I just hope the majority of the proceeds go the charity and hope it comes back to this area again. read more

I signed up for this once I heard it was up in the Bay area and a friend had recommended it to me. I was super duper excited and after watching several episodes of American Ninja Warrior on TV I was totally psyched to try something like this out. I went in with the 12pm heat. I got to the parking lot around 11:30am and thought I had enough time to process through packet pickup, t-shirt and bag drop off...and I managed to race through that initial obstacle just in time for the starting call for my 12pm heat. Everything went through smoothly and there wasn't much of a line at all. Prior to the kick off, there was a super duper excited woman on the mic who did a few lame stretches and her crazy squat thing but she was entertaining and got everyone off to a fun start. The first half of the race was all dry and kind of meh! The bouncy balls thing though looked like trouble if you actually attempted to run across the tops. I just opted to hop over them so I don't twist an ankle or anything (I'm getting old and can't risk injuring myself!) Then came the tube slide thing which was fun and finally got us wet. It was a pretty nice day but it did get a bit hot after running 1.5 miles. To clean us up after that was the suds slide and then the wrecking balls. They definitely need more wrecking ball lines! This was definitely the biggest back up! It was a fun thing for all the spectators and ourselves to watch though....definitely harder than I thought to make it all the way across without falling into the water. Anyway, race was fun. I think it was worth the money and it was something different than your every day 5K. I'd do it again! read more

Was super excited to do this race with a group of people. I usually do races solo or with my hubby, but since we were in a group together, I figured it would be really fun. Our group's wave was at 12:45.We got there early enough and ended up going with the 12:15 wave. (I don't think anyone noticed. They just had police officers/security in the corral to make sure you had a bib.) "Cool Runnings" was the first water obstacle and finally getting wet and cool from the hot sun felt really good. Race day was pretty warm, I'd say in the high 80's. Since we started shortly after noon, I felt that hot sun on my shoulders and back! I think the hardest obstacle was "Jump Balls". While waiting in line, I didn't see anyone make it across all 3 balls. I was afraid I was going to hurt myself just jumping off the platform. Thankfully I came out with no injuries. =) The last obstacle which was the "Waterslide" was my all time favorite!! I probably should have done it more than once since I probably won't be able to experience this type of slide again. I definitely felt like a little kid. High fives on: -Packet pick up: Very fast! Only waited for about 5 min. Bag check was even faster. I commend them on that! Usually you're waiting forever! -All the volunteers did a great job. I liked that they cheered you on and made sure you were having fun (and getting wet!) -Porta potties were plentiful. Thank goodness! -Waiting times for each of the obstacles wasn't bad. The longest time waiting was for the "Wrecking Ball." I think this one had a waiting time of about 15 minutes? Thumbs down on: -I paid regular price of $70 when I saw it advertised on Groupon a few weeks before the race, of course for less. =( So, minus 1 star for that. -I was disappointed about was not getting any pictures taken. I didn't have a go-pro and I wasn't going to damage my Iphone from the water, so I was kinda counting on the race's photographers to take some pics. Total waste of money. First the thing was over priced. The lines were long for registration. And apart from 2-3 a lot of obstacles were boring and useless. Also safety and hygiene standards were bad. The accumulated puddles of water and mud was bad. Also water within obstacles was disgustingly dirty. We did it in the afternoon heat and there were very few water stations. I wouldn't be surprised if people got a heat stroke. Apart from the race day I am not even happy with the registration process. So many hidden charges. Total came up to 70+ dollars. We felt we should have gone to a water park instead. It would have been cheaper, hygienic, safe and surely lot more fun. :/ No fun. Waste of money. read more

We paid 70 bucks for this thing. Comparing to tough mudder, it was 95 each person. Tough mudder has way more obstacle courses than roc. Plus, you do not need to pay to upgrade the to shirt. Set this aside, roc is the only obstacle race that you need to pay to pick up your package on site. We participated in San Jose on 8/23/2014, only three obstacle courses had water... This race is crazy! I've done 5k races before, but nothing like this! This course was made for fun. It's not too hard, any age over 13 can do it! Whether you're fit or not, you will have an amazing time! Make sure you bring an extra set of clothes to change into for after because you WILL get wet! I would recommend this race to all my friends. Good concept for a race but not good execution. Expect the race obstacles to be extremely dressed down from what you've seen in the show. For example, the Smash Wall is just a wall you climb over. Done. It's like hopping a low fence. The Big Balls are much smaller, not over water, and you'll spend about 10 seconds on it before you're pushed through. The tubes are fun but also quick and you land in muddy water that smells faintly of manure (obstacle located on fair grounds near steer cages, which people have just ran by). Finally, the biggest obstacle is the online registration. It takes a long time to complete, you're asked to buy a lot (A LOT) of add-ons, and it's very expensive with little payoff once you actually run the course. I'm trying to be objective and suggest you spend your day at a water park where you'll spend less money and likely have more fun. read more

Went with a group of 5 guys from work. We dressed up silly, joked the whole way, and generally had a great time. The guys all remarked that the obstacles were more fun than they expected. It was nice that the water obstacles came closer to the end so we didn't run with soggy shoes the whole time; the water obstacles were the most fun. For the first year, I think it was a cool race. The negatives were mainly: 1) The price was high for a short event 2) There was no way to modulate the difficulty: It would have been great if a few of us could have run the course a second time and if the obstacles themselves had varying difficulty. At the end of the race, a few of us weren't tired at all, which we hoped to be. Obviously there are tougher races out there, but groups are heterogenous, so it would be nice to have a race with options. Overall, everyone had a great time and was eager to do something like this again and encourage more of our colleagues to join. I definitely recommend it! read more

First time running this course, had a great time. Obstacles were easy enough and spaced just far enough apart so that a non runner such as myself could make it. One thing I did not like was the lack of viewing areas for spectators. Once the runner leaves the starting real it can be up to an hour before the spectators see their friends or families again, and then it's only for the last two obstacles. It wasn't for lack of space, these fairgrounds had a plethora of space for spectators or grandstands or something. Anything would have been better than nothing. The standing water could have been dealt with a little quicker as well... At any rate, we had a great team and a great time doing the course. Will do it again for sure. read more

This was my first ROC Race, so I came in completely blind. The registration is expensive, they tack on a lot of extra charges... and then charge extra to pick up your paper bib! But if you go in knowing you're paying for a few hours of fun, its not so bad. It's a 3.2 mile jog around the fairgrounds. It's evenly paced and they let you start in groups so you don't feel rushed, and can take your time. However, when you get to the obstacles there are lines, and you feel quite rushed by the volunteers (who by the way had to be high school kids). The course is dusty, then muddy, combine all of that with some water obstacles and you have a mucky mess. Be prepared to get all dirty and bring a change of clothes. I don't run often, but i didn't find it too challenging, don't be scared if you're not a usual runner. I'd do it again next year, and try and register early. read more

I had a blast at this event. They did a good job spacing and pacing the groups so i didn't feel crowded or rushed. It was really fun to bounce around on the obstacles, and challenging but definitely doable for someone who hasn't prepared at all (like me). There was a lot of climbing but they had a lot of handholds and ropes to help out. I'm not a runner, so having something to run to made it not so bad in between obstacles. It was super hot that day though, and they should have had more water break stations. I would definitely do this again! read more

I was a volunteer for this event. Not knowing the full course myself, the race seemed like so much fun. It was more than a regular race event because you're actually having so much fun going on jump houses, sliding down, and just a great time of fun. You do get dirty, so make sure to wear something you can get dirty in! There's lots of water obstacles so be prepare to get wet and wear a swim suit under your clothing! Overall, I recommend joining this event because it seems like so much fun. It's a good start before actually going to an actual running event. I would definitely sign up for next year's race! For my first ROC race experience, I had low expectations. I pictured waiting in very long lines to go through the obstacles. I was impressed with how organized it was. I think the key is getting an early timeslot. We had 9am and we only waited in line a total of maybe 5 min (the longest was the line for the tube slide but it was only a few minutes). The bag check was seamless with no lines. Parking was easy (we paid $5 to park at the school next door). I thought there would be more water obstacles, but seeing how the mud got tracked thru all the obstacles, I was glad they clustered the water obstacles at the end. Maybe next year they could hold it at a place that wasn't dirt (huge parking lot?). My friend did the packet pickup and said it was a little disorganized, so they should work on that. Yes, it's not cheap but I imagine this race costs quite a bit to put on. Also, you know about the fees before you finalize your registration, so if you don't like them, don't sign up. read more

Although my car got towed, my friends and I had a blast with this run. If I was going to do it again (which I plan on), I'd probably go earlier in the morning when the water was a little cleaner, but overall it was a blast. The only reason I couldn't give 5 stars is because some of the obstacles were a bit hoky like the wall and the sky's the limit. The highlight was definitely the wrecking balls! We got the race on groupon so cost was significantly reduced so no complaints there. The run was not very challenging, with 3/4 of a mile (maybe a bit more) being the longest stretch of running. If you are in decent shape and run a mile or two a week, you will have no problem with running. The staff was pretty awesome for the most part. The hype guys and MCs were pretty hilarious. This race is definitely worth the cash. DO IT! read more

Was a fun event to go to. it accommodates people that are different levels of fitness. Would love if they had changing rooms or stalls. At the end of the run you're soaking wet and your options are the following : jump in your car soaking wet or change in the nasty porta-potties. read more

We were running late to get to the start line for our 10:30am time and ran half a mile to arrive and wait in a really long line! We were relieved to know the start time was somewhat flexible, but wished we'd known beforehand. The obstacles vary in coolness, some are really simple and not that exciting. For the price of the LivingSocial deal, the event was alright and I had a fun time going with a group of friends. Everything seemed fairly organized the day of and there were a good amount of obstacles spaced out in intervals that didn't you get bored from running. However, this event could be much better if they tweaked some things: - Some obstacles weren't that fun or could have been more challenging. Maybe they could have two different difficulties per obstacle - one for the casual attendee and one that's for the ninja warrior. - Bottlenecks/lines at some of the obstacles interrupted the pace of the overall course. - Yucky water at the wrecking ball! We had a really good time! Went with a large group from work. Some were more athletic than others and I think overall it was great for the diversity of our group. We had to deal with lines picking up our packets the day prior but they were extremely accommodating since we weren't as organized planning as a group. We all got to start at the same time! The actual race itself was really fun. The major hiccup was not enough water for the first half. All the dry courses were first and finished with the wet. It wasn't a big deal but it was really hot and not ample water stands. Would recommend having one or two water courses in the beginning or having more water stands since carrying your own water could be more of an annoyance. Would definitely recommend and looking forward to next year!!!! read more

2014 This year I give them 5 stars. My first time doing this sort of race. I've been doing 5k's here and there but is the most fun of them all. The back check: 5 stars no line & they found my bag so quick. Easy in and out. The starting line: It kinda got pack a little trying to get in but other than that it's pretty smooth right when you get in with the lady on the mic. The first course moon bounce there are lots of restrooms around it that we went in before the moon bounce. It's pretty smooth going in and out of the obstacles not a lot of line. Only at the jump balls that's when it got pack a little. More cold water station please. It's been a great experience for newbies.. For tough mudder enthisiast why come here and complain that it's not tough enough... I really don't write too many bad reviews so this has to be something that's made an impact. At that price point and with all the up sell including fee for "day of pick-up" it's natural to expect that a better system is in place for registration and event execution. I rallied a team who were all trying out Wipeout Run for the first time. The process is a real pain and customer service on the actual event venue was so poor I felt compelled to write this review. At that price point of close to a hundred dollars and a No Refund policy, I would hope a better approach to your costumers. read more

If you are only going to do one obstacle run this year do one of the many other options. Don't get me wrong, Wipeout is entertaining, but it cost the same as much better events, and offers very little. I just did my first Wipeout 8/22/15 and here is what other runs have that Wipeout doesn't: 1. Multiple Vendors - If you feel like shopping eating or drinking, all the other runs I have done have had an assortment of vendors. wipeout had a merch tent and 3 food trucks. There was also a vending machine for water 2. Twice as many obstacles - Even other 5K events had almost twice as many obstacles. I think 4 of the Wipeout events were slides. 3. Something fro you when you finish - Wipeout gives you a T-shirt, some wrist bands, a temp tattoo, and safety pins for your bib. That's it. Every other run gives you a metal, a headband or other token of your finish. Today I just got the Wipeout email offering to sell me this for an additional $35. 4. Beer - Most other runs have a free beer at the end. I always joke that the beer is what I run for. Just one beer at the end, not get sloppy drunk, just a "hey I did it" beer. They don't even allow alcohol at all. 5. Organized start times - Our start time was 10:30. at 10:30 there was a huge mass of people at the starting area. They herd some of you into a holding area, then let groups of 20-30 into the starting line area. Then they "jazz you up" (god bless him he tried) and let you run. We didn't get into the first herding area until 10:40 then actually started closer to 11:00. 6. Don't nickle and dime you - This starts with online registration. The website is confusing and tries to direct you into areas where you have to purchase extras. One thing they try to get you to do is join active, for free, then they will bill you for the service in a few months. I think that was between $40-$60. They try to push merchandise on you, the default yes to buy. It took me about 20 minutes to get registered after I had given all my information. They charge you $5 to pick up your packet the day of. This is all really annoying. The good. 1. The volunteers. They were a bunch of youngsters that worked hard to make the most out of everything. I 'am a fan of the show Wipeout and thought this would be a simular experiance, NO its a few bounce house type of slides and swings set up in a field of dirt, I consider my self to be pretty competative and athletic so over all I was very dissapointed but I saw plenty of NON athletic peeps having the time of there lives so............................. read more

I did enjoy the race when it was here last year. However this year there are several things that have me wondering if I'll sign up again next year. First off, I feel that the prices went up. I mean it's a given that you pay a fee to do a race but the prices that are charged are ridiculous. Coupons and early sign ups are offered stating "discount price" but that's basically useless because once they finished adding on several miscellaneous fees, you're paying $70 for the basic package. On top what you've already paid, they went ahead and changed their policy on packet pick ups and tack on an additional $5 to pick up your bib the day of the race. (Last year other people were allowed to pick up multiple packets with a copy a simple copy of a photo id. This year that was taken away as every participant has to show proof of their own identity. Talk about a hassle.) To put the icing on the cake, there's an additional fee for parking making this one pricey ass race. Now on to the race. This time around there were 3 less obstacles than last and the the course in between some obstacles seemed rather long and boring. Not all stations of the obstacles were open either and one was even shut down for a while because of an injury. Not to be mean, but it's not like it was a serious injury. The staff could've very well dragged this person off the inflatable. We were told to run to the other obstacles nearby and come back but by the time we got back the line was so long that it wasn't even worth the wait. Had this not been for everything I stated above this review would've easily gotten 4 stars from me. In my opinion this race was way over priced for the amount of problems that we ran into. read more

being as it was ROC race first time in the bay...it wasn't all that bad. of course there are a lot of improvements and im sure they are reading this. There were definitely not enough water obstacles course. Only the last few were. I think the volunteers should be people of age and not a bunch of 10-15 year olds. I saw a lot just hanging out and on their phone. Overall it wasnt as bad for their first time and I am sure a lot of improvments will be made for next year. ill probably attend another one. read more

We had an absolute blast at this event. The obstacles were very fun and adult-sized. This was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon and we will definitely be doing this again in the future. Having done pretty much every 5k, 7k and 13 mile obstacle course (Tough Mudder, Spartan) around I went in to this event for the sole purpose of just having fun and not expecting a lot out of it. Plus my wife decided to run or rather walk it with me so it was fun to have her participate. Despite my 3 stars they aren't that far away from being a really well run event and hitting 5 stars. The course was well laid out with just the right amount of obstacles for the distance. Negatives: Packet pick-up location was horrible. I went mid-day while most people are still at work and still had to wait in a long line. And that was after circling the tiny parking lot trying to find a place to park. Yes the fees were low to participate, but really just a tech tee, and a plain generic one at that? No mention of a year, location or anything to make it personal. Just the logo. Medals are pretty standard nowadays and worth an increase in costs of a couple of dollars. Some of the obstacles were boring (i.e. moon walk) while others made no sense (jump from a ledge on to a round ball to another round ball), and others were not height appropriate (monkey bars where my feet touched even when raised) and as numerous others commented on, not enough water events; likely due to drought or poor planning). Would still have liked to see more foam events, even in absence of water. Many races have moved to free pictures, it's been over a month and I haven't seen any notices about any type of pictures at all and I only remember seeing one photographer near the end. After party was tame and lame compared to many of the other races I've done. Positives: Anyone regardless of fitness level could easily participate. Cost is relatively low, because you aren't getting much. Worth the money for an hour and a half of fun with family and friends that may not normally participate and it's unique. read more

Best obstacle run I've participated in! So many obstacles, there were were people on loudspeakers at the bigger ones, pumping people up, and they were so much fun! I'm not athletic at all, but I managed just fine and had a great time doing it. If there was a line at an obstacle, they moved very quickly. The longest I waited was maybe 5 mins. The volunteers were numerous and amazing! So helpful at the obstacles and the three water stations. I will absolutely sign up again. It's a bit pricey, but I've never been to a run with so many obstacles. If you're on the fence, just do it. You won't regret it! read more
