The decor is pretty much what you'd expect in a small town diner. Steel chairs, walls filled with artwork of animals, a single big screen TV. The restaurant entrance door doesn't close all the way, so the floor is noticeable dusty. The waitress the first time was just like the restaurant... mediocre. She aptly took our order and served our food, but she never showed up again. Never asked how our food was, never made sure we needed a beverage refill. Chicken fingers were typical, that commercial bought product that most restaurants have. So good, but not anything special. The beef dip was the worst I've had in a long time. Bland bun that wasn't toasted enough, bland au jus sauce, and very grisly meat. The one redeeming factor for the meals were that they were huge. So overall on the first meal, below average that I would expect eating at any restaurant. We showed up later in the day with 6 other people (Hardisty has very few places to waste time while waiting for a wedding reception). This visit we had 12 year old girl as a waitress (probably the owners daughter). Us: "How is the coffee?" Too young waitress, sheepishly "Ummm... Good? I don't know, I drink coffee?" Us: "What kind of beer do you have?" Too young waitress: "Good beer?" (Which is a spectacular answer from someone who wouldn't be allowed to serve beer anyway lol). Us: "What's on the Hardisty burger?" Too young waitress "...Good stuff." At this point we couldn't even keep from laughing. I only grabbed a slice of pizza from my wife. It was pretty good for a random little diner. I usually don't like pizza outside of big-box places but I would recommend it over the previous meal we ate.

They are willing to modify orders to suit dietary needs. They have gluten free, and lactose free options. The location could be a little better, as it is located right next to the train track; the building is an old train station that was renovated into a restaurant... so it can get a little noisy when the train goes by. The owners are very friendly, and they really enjoy socializing with the patrons. The most recent visit was my dog's 12th birthday weekend, so we sat out on the patio, and when they found out, they brought him out a steak as a gift, which he really enjoyed. I have been here a few times, and will be going again, I am sure. If you are in or around Wainwright, I highly recommend you check this place out!

It's clean and bright, and everything, but getting there is quite an interesting feat in itself. Not for the faint of heart. :)

I would say that it was better than average though. The bacon was cooked just right and the hashbrowns were quite tasty. I didn't check for WiFi but cell service was good which we expected since we're in a town. The owner came to chat with us for a while. He lives right next door so he's basically always here. That's always a good sign. There were other customers here at 11:30 when we arrived. There's lots of parking if you are towing a trailer. There's even a trailer sandi-dump next door if you're in need of one. All in all this is a good place to stop for a bite in Castor.
