I'm sharing my experience for anyone considering working with Robin specifically for SIBO.
Robin's approach is very unstructured and heavily focused on flexibility and "food enjoyment." While that may work for some people, it was not appropriate for my situation or what I clearly communicated I needed.
When you're actively treating SIBO, food often functions as medicine, not enjoyment. Portion sizes, macronutrient balance, and structure matter significantly. Under-eating, over-eating, excess fat, or excess carbohydrates can all negatively affect motility and symptoms. I was very clear before and during my appointment that I needed specific guidance, including portion sizes and a structured meal plan, because I was struggling to eat enough calories and did not want to worsen my condition.
That structure was not provided.
During the session, I was asked in the final ~15 minutes to quickly scribble down meal ideas myself. These were vague combinations of foods I was already eating, written rapidly and without portions or nutritional context. I did not understand that these rough notes would later be considered my "meal plan," especially since I had already communicated that I needed portion guidance. At no point was I told that this level of vagueness was the final deliverable, nor was I told that structured planning was something she could not provide.
After the appointment, I received two recipes, but only after I had to follow up multiple times because the initial email never went through. Even after acknowledging that the email bounced, there was no proactive follow-up. I was left without any usable guidance for two weeks during a time-sensitive phase of treatment. That lack of follow-up felt unprofessional and stressful.
The recipes themselves were not personalized, did not include portion sizes, and were written for 6-8 servings, which was confusing since I am cooking for myself. There was no way for me to know whether a serving met my calorie needs, protein needs, or low-fat requirements. Given that I had already explained I was struggling to eat enough calories, this left me concerned that following these recipes could actually lead to under-eating and worsen my motility -- and I would have no way of knowing.
Importantly, these recipes were presented as the primary guidance, not as a supplement to a structured plan. This felt inconsistent with the language on her website and in Practice Better, which describes a personalized and customized approach. What I received felt more like general nutrition education rather than individualized planning and implementation.
While I understand and appreciate the importance of avoiding disordered eating, I repeatedly communicated that my issue was the opposite -- difficulty eating enough. Despite that, no calorie guidance, portion ranges, or macronutrient structure was provided. If this is part of her philosophy, that should be clearly communicated upfront, because it may not be appropriate for patients who need concrete guidance during active SIBO treatment.
Overall, the experience felt disorganized, unclear, and misaligned with what was advertised and what I explicitly requested. I left feeling more confused and unsupported than when I started, and ultimately had to create my own structured plan elsewhere.
This may be a better fit for someone who prefers very loose guidance and is not in an active treatment phase. However, if you are treating SIBO and need clear portions, structure, and implementation, this was not a good fit for me, and I would not recommend it for that purpose. read more
