Called Chase multiple times and it was always "we have it handled". IRS notices kept coming. HPG stops returning phone calls and did not resolve issue. Finally after getting sick of getting notices, I contact IRS and spend 3 days probably total time on phone/correspondence with IRS and finally resolved earlier this year. IRS stated never received anything from HPG. All calls and messages to HPG unanswered and ignored. So unprofessional. I have so many friends that I sent to him too... some pretty big clients of his. I will be contacting all those friends. So disappointing and unprofessional.

A friend referred me to John Ackerman at Ackerman CPAs so we schedule a meeting over coffee. John was friendly and personable, which was important to me when choosing a CPA. When it came time to file taxes, John was prompt to answer my questions and made the process super quick and easy. My refund was significant this year, definitely more than I would have received trying to do this on my own! I highly recommend John and Ackerman CPAs, and have already referred several of my friends to him.

Honestly I could use TurboTax myself if that's all I wanted, but I had been employed in two states that tax year and had earnings on a 1099 so I wanted an expert's help and that's not what I got. Fortunately, I found Belinda, popularly known as the Highlands Tax Lady, and she definitely has the expertise I was looking for. She has been taking care of my tax needs for the last three years. The fee is higher than that of the tax lady I had in San Diego, but I really consider it worth it. I recently had to file an amendment and she made it really easy. She has also fielded plenty of general questions I've had. My only criticism is that I'm never seen at my appointment time, though I do understand that during the busy season it's easy to get behind and the effects are cumulative and therefore worse for the afternoon/evening appointments. They are always very apologetic and given how competent Belinda is, I think it's worth the long wait times.

I decided this a couple weeks before the tax deadline. Oops. I put out a quote on Yelp and got a lot of responses. I sent him all my stuff and he was able to process my taxes very quickly, even with a looming deadline. I was worried I would have to come into his office but I was able to do everything electronically, which was a nice perk. Not sure what next year's tax situation will bring but I will definitely consider using him in the future and would recommend him to anyone in the valley, especially if you're a last-minute filer like me.
