**Note this is the first part of a three part review of this facility and its amenities. For clarity, we did not stay at the Holiday Inn portion of the facility. Part II covers the Ralph's American Grill and Part III covers the Post-Trip bar which can be found in the Ralph's American Grill Restaurant within the facility building. This is our second year at this facility for a large group event and I found myself more disappointed this year than last year. Keep in mind, this a "convention centre" located in the middle of nowhere in Central Ohio. You are 45 minutes north of Cincinnati and 50 minutes south of Columbus. Look at the map photo- yes those are farm fields as far as the eye can see and no town you have ever heard of. So what's the draw to host your event here? My only hope is the cost or that all of your attendees are from Cincinnati or Columbus and this is a form of compromise. Don't get me wrong, the facilities are not bad. They're just not great either. A convention center has to either have amenities that make it easy for you to not leave the facility or be close to amenities that make you not care about a short drive from the facility. This place offers neither. The restaurant is very appealing, but sorely understaffed, especially for events that were booked months and months in advance. Your only other close options are Wendy's, a McDonalds and a Subway (that get quickly overwhelmed). The closest attraction is a cargo plane air-park. 'Nuff said. The actual meeting spaces and ballrooms are also fine. They can handle various size groups. The large ballroom leaves a little to be desired- no ceiling tiles, just open industrial ceilings with white drapes and dated chandeliers. Most concerning is the organization and preparation. This place thrives on meetings, group events and conventions, most of which are planned months in advance. That advanced planning should come with some level of advanced preparation. However, when we arrived for our event at 8 am (it's start time) it is 9 degrees and had snowed the night before. Yet they were just beginning to salt the parking lots and clear the sidewalks. Hundreds of people slipping and sliding through the parking lot trying to get into the building. Once inside, it appears the heat had just been turned on. Every room was freezing. One of the meeting rooms (where kids had to make costume changes) was still 47 degrees at noon. Had to get the event staff to call the hotel staff to get the convention center staff to get maintenance to fix the issue. You host conventions- you have one job....

Ambiance is good. If you can get served the food is good. Expect a long wait to get served.

Really a 2.5 stars. I have heard how nice this was since I was in college in the 1980s. Never…read morestayed but been there to eat at Max and Erma's when that chain was open and at the event center next door. While it has been "upgraded" decor, instead of warm and welcoming it is cold, empty in the lobby and even the room felt like that. I know hard wood and tile floors are the trend, tell that to bare feet heading to the bathroom at night. The halls had wonderful padded carpet that was new. In my room, you could see some of the new items but the rust on the desk chair arms and stained caulk in the tub showed they didn't care about the details. I also had no view since the window looked right out to the big A/C units on the roof of the low roof. It wasn't a full hotel so I don't know why I got that room. Staff was friendly but the lack of good food onsite was another downside. Starbucks like coffee shop doesn't cut it when no breakfast is available. The replacement restaurant doesn't match the rep of this place. I will not be back. The money I saved from staying at the Express version wasn't worth it.

A big stately building is the first impression. Of course this is after coming off the highway,…read moretaking some odd twists and turns, driving behind a giant warehouse, and through tractor trailer lots...not sure what our GPS was doing there. It is an oddly elegant place for the location. It is as if a Hallmark Movie Prince were masquerading as a stable boy. By the way there is horse stuff in the area. We saw quite a few young ladies in horse cosplay (I mean riding gear). Do you really have to wear the helmet to walk to the car and ride to the event? Anyway, nice clean room, in fact the whole place was generally spotless. There is a giant (and empty) anteroom with seating and book shelves. I guess maybe when large groups are coming through it is a useful staging area. The staff was polite and effecient. The one lady even explained to us the odd lonely baseball player statue (Go Warriors), at the back entrance of the building. The RL trucking guy liked the statue, so there it sits. They allow dogs in the building. That is a good or bad thing depending on the competence and temperment of the owner. There is an odd convenience store/DQ (anyone remember the sick cartoon CatDog) across the parking lot. They have this interesting banner about them charging the lowest prices for alcohol allowed by state law. I know about that kind ofstuff, but I looked it up to be sure. There is no such thing as a state minimum price for alcohol products. Hence the $12 for a six pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade. Come for the hotel, enjoy the stay. Disregard all the other industrial oddities nearby.

25-27 July 2024 was stay…read more Inns are generally establishments or buildings where travelers can seek lodging, and usually, food and drink. Inns are typically located in the country or along a highway. I start with that, from Wikipedia, just so we all have a sense of what we are supposed to be talking about. This place is an Inn just like I am a gold medal gymnast at 6-2, and a doughy office worker 270 lbs. I have never owned or managed a motel. I have however owned a few homes and even lived in an apartment once or twice. If the standards of cleanliness and what passes for hospitality of this motel is any indication of the owner's home life, yikes. It is okay to be worn and a little bit run down, that happens. I have spent time in military barracks that are 80 years old- none as beaten down as this place. There can always be pride in being clean even if you had holes in your clothes. This place has none of that to offer. The carpet is moist, sticky and smelly. My wife refused to walk on it barefoot, and while I did, I think I am still using extra foot spray a week later. Our maid service was coming into the room (we were gone to Air Force Museum) leaving the drapes open so the hot sun could stream in, turning down the wall unit (leaving the flap up), and taking all the towels. [Yes that is the end of the sentence, I had to go down and beg for towels, Mutt and Jeff manning the desk gave me a vague stare and two towels]. The newly remodeled shower has floor tiles and skimpy grout, so there will certainly be mold at some point. Throughout the entire small room there's a general feeling of ick and lack of cleanliness. Closing for a couple weeks and doing a total sterilization, fumigation cleaning would be an improvement. However what it might really take is teardown to the frame, remove and replace all fabric, clean, seal and repaint every surface. That is not likely to happen, the current owner will run it further into the ground, the patrons will decline (wasn't tip top during our stay) to the point where others will not stay and it will get worse until the govt. steps in and condemns the place. When we stayed 6 years ago and it wasn't good or bad enough to write a review about. This time I felt like I could not be silent. There is no price point at which we will ever stay here again and that is definitely not the $204 that those two nights in a gulag stole from us.

We walked in and immediately left and will be getting a refund come Monday- this place was filthy,…read moremold, urine, pubic hair, ROACHES, broken grimy outlets, and stains GALORE! Wilmington Inn - Seems safe? Nothing bad could happen with this plus the extra kindling on the floor that was DEFINITELY vacuumed.
