I was able to get through to them right away on the phone. The young woman was very pleasant to talk to. I had asked if I could get a sooner appointment and she said she'd get back to me. She did so in two days and I got in sooner to see Dr. Simone. Dr. Simone has been handling my case. Initially she was a bit impatient with me when I first met with her. After that, she was super nice to me on the phone and at my last appointment. She is very, very knowledgeable about various stomach issues and gave me excellent information. She took time to explain things to me. I found her to be personable and very warm, so apparently I caught her on a bad day at my first appointment. Her medical assistant did make an error in my lab tests--she thought I needed to do a second test with another sample. When I brought the second sample to DLS, they told me they had enough from the first sample around so they were able to conduct the second test without needing a second sample. That was a bit of an inconvenience. Her medical assistant is slow in returning calls, and if I miss them and call back, I've been put on hold for at least 20 minutes. Hopefully that has improved. The staff was extremely nice and personable as well. So I can say that I went from a one-star review to a 4-star review of Hawaii Gastroenterology Specialists. I have removed the 1-star review I posted and rewrote this one because I was impressed with the changes that were made to improve the patient experience with this clinic.

The office manager is so obnoxious, and ridiculously rude. She'll text patients during work hours with extremely concerning , and disturbing comments to paid patients. Evidently, this clinic allows this type of disturbing behavior because I've been going here for a while. In addition, the Pearl City location is just as worst. When I filed a complaint about the office manager over the phone to their clinic, the office personnel there told me to shut up or else she's not helping me. Excuse me! How obnoxiously rude and unprofessional at the least. They run this clinic like the circus with clowns working there. I would give them a negative 0 rating but that would be to kind. Save your precious time and money because this clinic will never make changes on how they operate. Go somewhere else that deserves your business. They're so many good doctors out there that will treat you bette and offer better service.

She referred me to Dr. Miyamoto and she is AWESOME!!! So competent, friendly, compassionate, and genuinely cares about you. She works with an awesome staff as well. My "operating room" was full of caring and kind people. I didn't hesitate to schedule my next appointment with Dr. Miyamoto when it was time to go again. Sometimes, things happen and they have to stay calm and professional while keeping their sense of humor and getting the job done... I appreciate Dr. Morisaki and his staff because they are a great team. Everyone was cheerful and informative! They made sure that I understood what was going to happen and how to prepare for the procedure. Dr. Morisaki even called me a few days after the procedure to follow up with me! Dr. Morisaki has two offices: one at Kuakini Physicians Tower in Honolulu and one in Aiea. I chose Kuakini. It has validated covered parking and a safe, locked restroom down the hallway. My friend, Paul C., taught me to bring some treats for the office staff. After I "recovered", I was able to get a box of baked manapua, bring it to the Kuakini Medical Center, and call the office so someone could meet me at the Ground Level, and wrap each manapua individually in a bags (COVID protocol). She brought some gloves so we were able to keep the manapua "clean". Haha! The look of gratitude on her face was priceless. It was as if no other patient remembered them and their hard work. I told her that I couldn't do her job... And it's true! I asked her to give some treats to the Recovery Room staff also. The office staff were great and the Recovery Room nurses were fabulous because they fed me after I woke up from anesthesia. They asked me if I wanted apple juice or graham crackers. I answered, "Both, please!" They asked me if I wanted more... I answered, "Yes, please!" Gosh ..those were the best graham crackers ever... So yummy, light and crisp! I sure enjoyed eating them! LOL! But it's his front staff that needs to be worked on, because for the past few weeks I had the most difficult time trying to get my dads medical records faxed over to his health physician. They continuously gave me the run arounds about how his physician should be the ones requesting it, when I'm verbally trying to explain to them that there's a telehealth appointment set a few weeks out. I've left numerous amounts of voicemails, and no one got back to me after I tried requesting an earlier time due to traffic hours and my hectic work schedule. They've informed me that it was against HIPAA to send my dads records to his physician, but I as well work with a health care provider and from my understanding it is not against HIPAA to send patient records to the doctors that had referred the patient to the specialist. We had a follow up appointment today, it was not certain if my dads medical records were sent to his physician. So, we ended up just making it to this appointment. As I checked my dad in, the girl looked at me confused and kept asking me my dads last name. She spoke to the lady besides her in Tagalog (AS IF I DONT SPEAK NOR UNDERSTAND) stating that his appointment was cancelled. It was not in our knowledge that his appointment was cancelled, but thankfully she said to just add my dad to the schedule and that it was okay. I don't know who's running his front staff but they need to work on it, so unprofessional and no one ever answers the phone nor returns calls. Did I also mention that they charge $1 for Mask? I was…read moreonce a patient of hers but after changing careers my employer only offered Kaiser Health Care insurance and she doesn't accept it. Two years later my employer offered HMSA so I wanted to go back to see her for a colonoscopy procedure. I called her office December 2024 was told because I hadn't seen Dr. Tamai in two years I would need to be referred to her by my primary physician. I did that and followed through with my primary physician to make sure they sent Dr. Tamai a referral. They said they did so I called her office to confirm. In January 2025 Her office told me they don't take Kaiser medical insurance and I had to explain everything all over to them again. I asked if they received the referral from my primary physician and was told they did not. Now it's February 2025. I called Dr. Tamai's office and they told me they won't take me as a new patient and should find another gastroenterologist to see me for my colonoscopy procedure. I can only imagine what would happen to me if this was an emergency situation that needed treatment.

A friend referred me to Dr. Ankur Jain and his wife Dr. Shilpa Jain and I was able to get in after around 2-3 months. Both doctors and their staff provided excellent service and treatment - from the intake appointment to the colonoscopy procedure, followed by the post procedure appointment, it was all very seamless, quick, and painless. I had a lot of anxiety going into this, but they took very good care of me and made me feel very comfortable. Highly recommend this husband/wife team!
