I was also terribly afraid of seeing the dentist. I had a traumatic experience when I was younger where my dentist left the drill in my mouth so she could go answer her phone. I might mention the drill was still running and it was my first visit to a dentist. I was only about 13. He allows my now husband then boyfriend to come in the room with me every time I've gone in. He sits right in the room with me the whole time. I have to get numbed every time though because my pain tolerance is very low. I also have to have a mouth helper because I have a hard time keeping my mouth open while he does fillings. I've only gotten fillings through him. My husband got a root canal though. He said that it didn't hurt but it was so painful afterwards that he went and got the tooth ripped out. Doctor McDonald is currently replacing all of my old silver fillings with the white ones. The fillings normally hurt for a few days after, but you could never tell that I have almost 16 fillings throughout my entire mouth. My husband has said never to go to him for extractions. He doesn't really like to do much for pain though.

Also have had appointment get cancelled while in route to the appointment. Have missed work to go to appointment that ends up being cancelled because of provider canceling or being 1 to 2 hours late. BUT if patient was to cancel we would get "PUNISHED" and not scheduled for 2 years out.

The most disconcerting part of the appointment was the location and design of the exam room - immediately adjacent to an area where a patient was having a tooth extraction. There was no wall, no solid barrier between the two areas, so I could hear everything. Plus the dentist kept me waiting at least 15 minutes. The staff took a full set of x-rays then kept me waiting at least another 15 minutes (in a chair with no magazine just passing the time listening to the procedure next door). When the dentist finally came in and introduced himself he kept looking at the xray results that were behind my chair - I was never shown the xrays and I couldn't see them from the exam chair. The dentist just said something to the effect of no problems were evident. Honestly, I couldn't get out of there fast enough and will not return.
