Nice showroom and seemingly nice guys. But that is where things stop. I was a contractor in Arizona…read morefor 24 years. Deposits were required, but usually around 30%. I was a little surprised that they require payment in full before the order is placed. Now I know why. They do not have their own install crews. They sub everything out and stand behind absolutely NOTHING! The LVT crew they hired got started and reached a point where they didn't know how to finish. The installer said he had to go to another job and would be back to finish in a few days. He demanded to be paid for the extras before he left. I called Knotty Alder and they said any extras must be paid. I told they weren't done yet and he hadn't finished the "extras" anyhow. Well, I paid him and the installer never came back. The company sent out a different guy who said they screwed everything up and the guy was a tile installer who had never done LVT before. Right after placing the order, we decided not to carpet an area in the basement. I called John and he said there were no refunds after the order was placed. I said I understand about the carpet, but the installer supplies the pad and they will not be doing the labor. He said we would have to see. They kept the extra padding and no refund on the labor, even after being charged several hundred for the LVT "extras" that were never even done (I ended up removing and installing the toilets myself even though I paid for that. John said it states in the contract that they don't do toilets. But the installer was fine to do it, but he took the money and never returned). After you pay them, they have you do all the calling and scheduling with the installer even though you have no contract with them. The installers drag out fixing the problems for months at a time and when they do come out, they normally say they don't have the materials or tools needed, or they need to get something through Knotty Alder. Knotty Alder will charge you for anything it takes to finish the job, even if it was supposed to be included and already paid for, When we couldn't get the installers back I texted pictures to John and asked if he could get someone out to finish. He would just ask for more pictures. After a year of this he told my wife "sorry, the warranty period has expired." So it appears that the strategy is to charge in full before placing an order, don't take any responsibility for their subs (they were not my subs), let the subs take advantage of their clients, do shoddy work, charge for extras they don't do, tell you to schedule everyone on your own and then after you can't get things resolved they say "too bad, your year is up!" We are still trying to get the installers to finish things and we have offered to pay them. Same results as before, wrong tool or don't have this or that... In some ways I think Knotty Alder has thrown the installers under the bus. We bought the very best LVT flooring they carry. Not only were there install issues, but the edges are delaminating and turning up. Knotty Alder has there money and they wash their hands of EVERYTHING. The installer didn't purchase the material, so it appears they have no leverage or support from the manufacturer. So we are stuck in the middle with no help or support from the only people we had a contract with and they take NO responsibility after the payment in full is made. In the end, I realize they have a nice showroom, but they are not the "nice guys" I thought. The way they have treated us is totally disgraceful and unethical. I wouldn't recommend them to ANYONE based on our experience.

Simply put, Nelson did an incredible job, and the results exceeded all our expectations. One of the biggest parts of this project was staining the new handrails and banisters to match our existing flooring. Nelson showed my wife and me a wide range of stain samples, each carefully selected to closely match the tones of our floors. He was patient and helpful throughout the selection process, and the final result was a perfect match to the sample we chose. The stain not only looks beautiful on its own, but it really ties the whole area together and makes everything feel cohesive and intentional. In addition to the staining, Nelson painted all the trim around the stairs and banisters. This fresh coat of paint gave the space a clean, crisp look and really helped the new woodwork stand out. His attention to detail was apparent in every aspect of the project, edges were sharp, lines were clean, and there was absolutely no sloppiness. He also went above and beyond when it came to prepping the area. Before he got started, Nelson took great care to tape and mask off all nearby surfaces, so there was no overspray or mess to worry about. That level of care and professionalism really stood out. He also patched and textured the walls in areas where the old banisters had been removed, and you would never know there was any work done there. The patched areas blend in flawlessly with the surrounding wall, both in texture and paint color. Throughout the entire process, Nelson kept us fully informed. He let us know when he would arrive, when he was wrapping up each day, and gave regular updates on progress. It's refreshing to work with someone who values communication and follows through on every promise. He quoted us a fair and competitive price for the work, and we felt we received incredible value given the high level of quality and care he put into everything. Aside from his obvious skill, Nelson is just a genuinely kind and sincere person. It's clear that he takes a lot of pride in his work, and he wants your project to look amazing. If you're looking for a painter who is talented, trustworthy, and truly invested in doing great work, I wholeheartedly recommend Nelson at Grey House Painting. He'll make your home look its absolute best.
