The Queen visited in May of this year. The meats served here are all locally sourced, raised, killed, smoked, cooked etc. The back bacon is unbelievably good. Some good deals with the pie of the day - usually game or steak - and other tasty morsels such as pates, sandwiches etc. Very pleasant surrounds, staff and reasonable prices. Recommended eating and shopping. They now do a Sunday Roast with choice of Lamb,Beef or pork. All very tasty and good value. A limited Evening menu has also now appeared. I cannot recommend this place highly enough

We'd booked our table, just in case and were seated on the balcony, which was lovely. Three of our party ordered the braised steak and oxtail pie, we can't recommend it enough, it was utterly delicious!!! My son's girlfriend had the lamb dish from the specials list, she said it was gorgeous!!! The vegetables were perfect, wonderful chips (a previous reviewer thinks they use frozen chips, I don't know where that idea came from, the chips we had were most definitely made from scratch), mashed potatoes and celeriac, perfectly cooked carrots and the best braised red cabbage I've ever tasted (I'm a big red cabbage fan so believe me, this is praise indeed). We managed to fit dessert in, we were all too full for big desserts, so had cake, husband and son had triple espresso and walnut, son's girlfriend went for chocolate while I chose Tunisian orange. We all thought our cakes were wonderful but I'm sure I 'won' because the orange cake was surely unbeatable, it was really, really delicious!!! The prices are very reasonable too, four meals, four portions of cake and a bottle of Prosecco came in at less than £80-00!!! The staff were attentive, but not too much so, the atmosphere was great, in fact everything was just perfect. If you're in the area, treat yourself, I promise, you won't be disappointed!

Now this is a reference to a local newspaper whereby customers leave feedback on various eateries. To put a poster like this up tells me you have something to hide or have had a bad review and didn't like it. What struck me immediately is how clean and tastefully decorated the place was and there was no smell of grease or anything like that. There were only two other people in there and my friend and I ordered the big breakfast each at £6.50. This review is based upon that breakfast. I cannot comment on what is an extensive menu. The orange juice that came with the breakfast was served in the smallest glass I have ever seen in a cafe, probably only 15ml worth. Then the server brought us our tea with cups and saucers stacked and just plonked them down and said "sort yourselves out." Then the toast came, which, although nice, was cold by the time the breakfast came. The eggs were cooked just how I like them but I am sorry to say that was all I can say positive about it. The bacon was woefully underdone and very fatty. The sausage was a cheap, 10 for 50p type, which had been deep fried. Could not eat it. The beans and tomato also underdone. The hash brown cheap and nasty. The mushrooms had also been deep fried and consequently retained all their moisture so just turned to mush. The black pudding was also underdone and soaked in fat. The less said about the fried bread the better. So poor service, poor food but nice decor and eggs.

It changed hands more than once so didn't know what to expect. I was surprised at how posh it seemed. We went in the afternoon but it was immediately clear it is more than just a coffee shop. They open in the evenings with a far from ordinary menu.I think the way we were served is probably the same as the evening service even for toasted teacake and a pot of tea.My friend enjoyed scone and cream. My toasted tea cake was the best I have ever had _nicely soft on the outside and toasted just right in the middle. There were people in having a coffee and chatting an enjoying the decor . A nice place to meetup.
