Top line...if you rent from them be aware that you will have little to no support with any issues you encounter on the road. There is a telephone number you can supposedly call for support however we were never able to reach anyone to speak with. I phoned at least a dozen times over the course of a week with the issues we experienced and most of those times was on hold a minimu of 15 minutes with no answer. Most of the telephone prompts end up just directing you to submit an email via the "contact us" link on their website, but they are not responsive. Details regarding our issues are below. My husband and I flew to San Francisco and rented a campervan from Roadsurfers in early June 2026. The reservation process and pickup went smoothly and the people on site who assisted us were knowledgeable and just wonderful. However, customer service after pickup is non-existent. About 5-10 minutes after we left the lot, we noticed some hairline cracks in the windshield. It was very difficult to see and only noticeable after we drove into a shaded area - almost impossible to see in the bright sunshine. I immediately sent a note to their customer service with a photo (which took some effort to take to be sure it was visible in the photo) indicating that I wanted to ensure that they were aware this was preexisting damage that was not noticable (nothing hit the windshield after we drove off and we were still on local roads). It took two days to get a response which was that we should get it fixed. A deposit of $850 is required when you pick up the vehicle and at that time we were advised if any damage occured the deposit would be applied to it. Our deposit was not credited upon return AND we ALSO received a bill for the deductible of $850 for damages (we purchased their middle level of insurance). I tried to reach someone in customer service to discuss this but as mentioned before you can't get through to a human. After trying all the various prompts, I was able to connect with someone who speaks German only and using their little English assured me someone would call me. I have not received a call. I also sent a 2 messages via the contact us link - it is now 3 business days after the last email and still no response. I will continue to work on getting this resolved. In addition to issue with the windshield, we were unable to make the heater and water heater work in the van. We are experienced RVers (20+ years) and know how these systems work (and one of us is an engineer). We did all the troubleshooting and looked up online how to fix it, but nothing worked. Important to note that actually testing these two systems specifically was not a part of the pre-departure checklist. I tried the provided customer support number but was only able to reach someone who speaks German (as above with the windshield issue) who assured me someone would call me. No one ever did (are you sensing a pattern yet?). I also submitted at least 3 requests during the week via the contact me link. One person did respond and assured me he would escalate our issue for help, but I never received another response. So there was no heat and no hot water during our trip. And a few nights it was chilly. I was hoping for some sort of deduction or refund for the inconvenience of not having hot water or heat but no such luck. If you have other options our recommendation is that you pursue those. If this is your only option, just be prepared to be frustrated and neglected. read more

I rented a van from Roadsurfer and was given a different model van that had a broken toilet. I immediately called Roadsurfer to report the broken toilet when I discovered that it was broken. I went through several phone calls with them, very frustrating because the wait time on hold was up to an hour and I got hung up on more than once. They sent me 6 hours and hundreds of miles out of my way to get a replacement cartridge, but they didn't have a working cartridge. They said this was common, those cartridges break easily, so they are always out of replacements. The guy gave me a "less broken" cartridge. Apparently, they did not record that I had been to their Hawthorne California site, nor did they note that they gave me a broken cartridge. When I returned the vehicle, they said I had broken their cartridge and charged me hundreds of dollars for it. Also, there were issues with their infotainment system where it kept blacking out and giving me errors. A smoke detector went off on the back of the vehicle and I tried to call them for immediate help, but was hung up on after 40 minutes. Their emergency contact system said it could take up to 7 days to hear back. I drove with the windows down on the vehicle for two full days in freezing weather. By the end of the trip, my dog had a seizure and died. Roadsurfer is saying none of this happened and they are taking no responsibility for any of it. And again, charging me hundreds of dollars for a cartridge that was broken when the guy put it in. These vehicles are broken down death traps. Stay far away. read more

I booked a 2 week trip in Spain for November. I created an account, booked the campervan and paid in full. The reservation never showed up in my Roadsurfers Trips. I contacted support within 24hs and I was told the reservation didnt process so I would have to book again. Then I realized I was charged even though it didnt process. So for the next week I went back and fourth waiting for the payment to drop off since it was still pending. The payment went through and I kept emailing support and they said I did not jave a reservation. I booked another trip with a different company on day 6 of this mess and on day 7, my reservation magically appears on my account and I was told that they had an error in my email address. The same email registered with, booked with and had been communicating through this entire time. Now that I have a reservation they told me I have to cancel through the system on my own. I went to do that and I will get $139 back from my $1312 trip. I would not have booked another trip if at any point over 7days of back and fourth with this company they would have assured me that I have a reservation. I was told the payment pending would drop off and I would have to book again. This is unacceptable! read more

I feel the booking process was deceptive--searching for the Faroe Islands showed me a van in Portugal, and despite cancelling within minutes, I was still charged a non‑refundable fee supposedly for their "IT platform." I am very dissatisfied with my experience with roadsurfer.com. I specifically searched for camper vans in the Faroe Islands, yet the site showed me an option in Faro, Portugal. Only after making the partial payment (50% upfront) did I realize the booking was for a completely different country. This feels deceptive, as the search results should clearly reflect the location I entered. I had booked the "Flex Option," which clearly stated "Free Cancellation." I cancelled within two minutes of booking--literally immediately after spotting the mistake. Despite cancelling almost instantly, roadsurfer told me I still needed to pay the remaining 50% before any refund could be processed. This makes the "free cancellation" promise meaningless and highly misleading. They also claimed the €99 fee was non‑refundable because it supposedly covers their IT platform costs. This explanation is not stated anywhere during the booking flow. Every attempt I made to request a full refund was declined, leaving me no choice but to file a claim with my credit card company. Another issue: roadsurfer is not the actual rental company but acts as a broker. The booking comes with the usual vague "or similar" vehicle description, which adds even more uncertainty. Booking directly with the local provider is far more transparent and secure. Overall, I cannot recommend roadsurfer. My experience felt misleading, unfair, and unnecessarily difficult. read more

Booked an RV online and then could not get past their check-in process as it required an International Driver's license/permit. Their customer service is NON-EXISTENT. Forget about calling - no one answers. I canceled and they still kept some of my money - I consider it theft. read more

Extensive Defects on the Rental Vehicle and Systematic Delays in Handling the Complaint We rented a camper from Roadsurfer for three weeks and would like to share our experience to inform other customers. Pickup: During the handover in Cologne/Bonn, we noticed numerous defects: * Windshield wipers did not function properly * Ambient lighting was defective * Refrigerator and storage compartment doors were damaged * Front tires had low tread * Interior was heavily soiled (seats, compartments) The defects were immediately documented and reported to the on-site staff. During the Rental Period: * Some defects were safety-relevant and made driving more difficult. * Technical issues, such as a non-functioning control panel and defective lights, significantly limited comfort and the usability of the vehicle. * We were asked to organize workshops and advance costs ourselves - which was very stressful during a family holiday with small children. Complaint Process: * All defects were properly reported through the official complaint portal, including photos and logs. * For weeks, we received no binding feedback. Communication was unclear, and responsibilities and processing times were not transparently communicated. Return: * The vehicle was returned properly; however, the complaint was still not processed. We had to follow up multiple times just to receive any response. Conclusion: The combination of numerous defects and very delayed handling caused a significant disruption to our holiday. We recommend future renters: * Inspect the vehicle very carefully upon handover * Document defects immediately and in detail * Insist on written confirmation of the complaint We hope that Roadsurfer will improve internal processes to better support future customers. read more

I rented a road surfer in San Francisco,ca for a family getaway and I was not pleased The cabinets were not stable and as I was driving all my items feel to the floor the stove did not work and upon arriving to pick up the road surfer There is a $850 deposit they hold the deposit for 14 days after returning the RV first off the deposit is higher than renting and then it takes long for your refund to be returned Rent-A-Car company doesn't even do that. There's no contact number for the damage department so that you can speak with them about returning your refund. They also want you to wash the vehicle clean the vehicle refrigerator bed toilet stove. You have to clean everything before returning. If anything is messed up, they will take your deposit The customer. Service is just bad all the way around. read more

The worst campervan/RV rental experience in my 15 years of renting sprinter-style RVs. Roadsurfer basically uses its customers to do the maintenance and cleaning of their vehicles and then says they'll reimburse receipts "IF the damage is not found to be the fault of the renter." - in 6-8 weeks after returning the vehicle! Their checkout process even says to wipe off insects from the front exterior! So when we picked up our Dodge "Liberty Lodge" it had clearly just been dropped off and nothing was done by the company besides adding the bedding and kitchen set. It was filthy inside and out, it only had a 3/4 tank of gas, the gray water hose was missing, the gray and fresh water tanks were 1/3 full, laminate and wall-paper was peeling off of the table and the walls, window blinds were dirty and just stuffed randomly in the overhead compartment, etc. And since we were so distracted with trying to address all those issues and waiting for the on-site attendant we failed to notice that the toilet was broken, the water pump wouldn't shut off, the awning didn't work, and the cabin batteries wouldn't hold a charge longer than one day simply running the refrigerator. To top it off, their website is a nightmare that redirects you into loops when you're trying to troubleshoot and report issues, guiding you to generic and unhelpful FAQs before you finally find the tiny "Contact" button. Then when you submit an issue you are typically replied to with a bunch of cut and pasted FAQs and given links to RV repair companies. There's no phone number or person you can talk to. I know there aren't a lot of great campervan/RV rental companies out there, but next time we'll either try our luck with Outdoorsy or hopefully there will be another competitor. read more

This company has the worst cancellation policy I have ever dealt with. Please be warned that you have to cancel your RV no matter the reason unless you pay them for the extra traveler insurance 60 days or more in advance. There is no US number to call them at, and they are based out of Germany. I had to find a friend who spoke German to them to get them to call me. They had 51 days' notice of my cancelation due to a death and still kept all the money that I needed to pay for funeral expenses. This amounted to $2,749.60, and 50% of that I will get in a voucher I cannot use before it expires. I have exercised every available option to resolve this, and I even offered to pay a fee of a few hundred dollars to get most of my money back. If you are going to rent, rent elsewhere and triple-check their cancellation policy. read more
