Our family of six spent a totally enjoyable four-plus hours this past Sunday at Jerry Hiltner's Vintage Village Antiques in rural Osakis, Minnesota (population 1,750). "Rural" takes on new meaning out here on the dirt roads of northwestern Minnesota where the only facilities on this site are a pair of outhouses. Jerry offers tours and field trips of the "Village" by appointment 7 days a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Pre-scheduled visits for small groups include a Thanksgiving-like candlelight dinner for a modest fee per person. We enjoyed walking through a half dozen buildings on the property including a vintage school room, a small church, a blacksmith shop and a few vintage structures filled to the brim with interesting antiques and collectibles for sale. The highlight of our afternoon was an incredible home-cooked, family-style Chicken Dinner with all the fixins in the candle-lit dining room of the site's turn-of-the-century farmhouse. Jerry is the gregarious owner and host, as well as chief cook and bottle washer of this awesome village of vintage buildings that he relocated to this bucolic site. He is a chef with a life-long passion for antiques and all things antiquarian. Jerry's passion and good-natured love of life is immediately felt as you meet this country gentleman. After our magnificent dinner, Jerry capped off our visit by giving us a buggy ride through the fields in a vintage Amish-style carriage pulled by a smart nine year old Filly. What a day we had at the "Farm". For me, it was like stepping back in time and into a snapshot of life a hundred years ago. Thank you Jerry for your incredible Minnesotan hospitality. Without question...10 stars on a scale of 5!

Their home is your home when you stay there. Bubba and Margie are the owners and they are dynamite people to sit an d chat with. Bubba has some great stories to tell and loves to tell them! Margie's talent is to make you feel at home with scrumptious goodies and a breakfast to die for! There are not words to describe the beautiful location that they occupy. It is a peninsula of land surrounded by a gorgeous lake and wild life. Please see the beautiful photos. I met several people that are return guests and they tell me that if you stay here, it will be very hard for other B & Bs to compare in many ways. They have many rooms in the house that are for adults only and then they have several guest houses on the property for families or groups to rent out. They have all the amenities that you would expect like boats, paddle boats and fishing poles to name a few things. This place is a nature's paradise with animals and activity where ever you look. You can nearly hand feed chipmunks at the front door if you like to that kind of thing. The way that I found this place was when my boss booked this as a off site meeting for a couple days where the management team mulled through ideas and business decisions and then have our wives stop up there on Friday evening to have a casual weekend. The charm of the people, food and location is unlike anything else you will find. Enjoy yourself and relax. I am already planning another trip back.

The space itself was clean and well equipped for cold/heat, cooking, everything! The island itself is beautiful and it felt amazing to be near such inspiring scenery. The town of battle lake also has a very calm, small town charm. The museums in the area are really interesting and enhanced my understanding of what the town is about. Be sure to check out the cafes in town! And be sure to go kayaking through the channels that connect all the lakes! Amazing! I would love to return again next summer!
