If only I lived in Lexington and could enjoy this coffee all the time. While I was in town I picked up two bags of whole bean coffee, a delicious beverage and a snack. The workers were extremely friendly and helpful- explaining their process and the delicious flavors notes of each batch. This is a must try for any coffee lover and make sure you buy a bag or two to take home. You won't regret it!

Bang. Want coffee around the area, definitely hit Roadmap. Awesome coffee and specialty coffee drinks, local baked goods and the Coconut Crunch coffee crushed it. We bought 4 cans for the road. Great Artisan Coffee just off the highway. Highly Recommend

One of my new favorite coffee roasteries! Colombia Don Ruiz - out of this world -- you must try this roast. Recently rebranded, they no longer offer coffee tours. However, be sure to try their coffee flight for a tasting of various brews. Everyone on staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about their coffees. Their baked goods are delicious as well. I tried the blueberry muffin, oatmeal raisin, and chocolate chip. Great space to enjoy a cup (or 5) as well as quiet place to work or collect your thoughts. There's seating outside as well, if you don't mind the road noise. They also have a drive thru if you're just passing through.

My family returned to this coffee place in June 2022 for a quick stop after our first visit in June 2021 (on a long return drive back to northern Virginia from Fayetteville, WV and the New River Gorge National Park). The name of this coffee place changed from Lexington Roasters to Roadmap Coffeeworks, but it's still provides an excellent option for ice coffee or an espresso drink. This time, I decided to pick up some coffee beans (Columbia Fudam Narino - light roast), which was delightful at home. The outdoor patio is dog-friendly (although it can be excruciatingly hot on a humid, midsummer day). The place has a simple but pleasant interior and clean restrooms. For folks driving between Blacksburg/Roanoke and points north along I-81, this cafe is an ideal pit stop as it's located about 1 mile away from the US 11 intersection with I-81 (northeast of Lexington, VA). Give it a try - you'll be pleasantly surprised by the superb quality of a cortado or regular coffee in this neck of the woods!

Time for a quick coffee break at the Roadmap CoffeeWorks, rated one of the 12 best roasters in the U.S., according to Forbes. The Blue Ridge blend and macchiato, paired with a light and flaky cinnamon crescent roll, were delish! The folks at the counter were super friendly and service was awesome. The shop is nice and clean and has its own roaster in the back. We'll definitely be back.

Amazing coffee.

Beautiful location, but a bit of a disappointment. Tasting flight was unavailable. Pastries were served cold, and coffee was okay.

I had an excellent experience at The Crucible Coffee Roasters in Staunton. Everything -- from the…read moredrinks to the atmosphere -- felt thoughtful and dialed in. I ordered the El Diablo Latte, and it was phenomenal. The cayenne and ancho brought a gentle warmth, the cinnamon and vanilla rounded it out, and the chocolate and espresso tied it all together beautifully. Spiced, smooth, and perfectly balanced. I also had a V60 pour-over of their seasonal Costa Rican single origin, and it was incredibly clean and expressive. I genuinely tasted the pomegranate and hibiscus notes, with a subtle cocoa finish. Bright without being sharp -- just a really well-executed cup. The triple ginger scone was the perfect pairing with the latte -- tender inside, lightly crisp outside, and warmly spiced without overpowering. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, the space was welcoming, and the quality across the board was top-tier. My only suggestion? Stickers. I'd absolutely put one on my laptop. Highly recommend.

It was busy for a Sunday afternoon, but it was raining outside & the perfect day for a warm caffeinated beverage. Anyone who knows coffee and lives within a 50 mile radius of Trager Brothers in Afton (also a…read morelocation in Lovingston) has literally zero reason for not making this roaster and coffee shop a regular pilgrimage site. To paraphrase the Beatles, there's nothing I can say that can't be said, but man do I love, love, love this place. Excellent whole bean offerings, roasted to perfection by expert roasters. Delicious hot and iced coffee and espresso drinks that simply can't be replicated anywhere nearby--including, sadly, in my home town of Staunton (hey, Trager Brothers! There's a huge opportunity for expansion in the Queen City!). And top all that off with sublime, informed, and incredibly friendly front of house staff. Yeah, it's a little hard to find, but anything worth having is worth looking for. And in this age of googling and Apple mapping and whatnot, there's no excuse for not availing yourself to the BEST coffee in central Virginia. Y'all who might have read some of my other reviews will know: I usually have a minor nit to pick with even my five stars. Not so with the Brothers Trager, fam. Enter their shop and be greeted by the heavenly aroma of roasting coffee, the whir of a burr grinder, the quiet scream of a steaming wand, the genuine smile and friendly greeting of the barista. Now, you tell me: how could you possibly find a quibble worth the scribble?

My friends and I went to Afton this past weekend for a quick getaway. Before the trip, I did some…read moreresearch on local coffee roasters, and Happ Coffee was easily at the top of my list. On our way to our Airbnb, a friend and I stopped by Happ, which is located inside an industrial-style building that's incredibly spacious. There's plenty of seating, along with a dedicated area where beans are available for purchase. The barista was really friendly, and we ended up having an in-depth conversation about drink recommendations. When I settled on a cappuccino, he walked me through how each milk option paired with the espresso. I ultimately chose whole milk since it doesn't have an overpowering flavor like almond milk, which allowed the light-roast espresso (an optional upgrade) to really shine. I didn't fully enjoy the cappuccino during the first couple sips because the mouthfeel of the whole milk felt a bit too thick, which didn't pair well with the light roast. However, it became more harmonious as I continued drinking, and the highlight was definitely the bright sweetness of the espresso. I really appreciate a coffee shop that pulls a light-roast espresso well. The barista asked for my thoughts, which I shared, and he then pulled me a shot using their South Paw (house espresso blend) beans to try. I thoroughly enjoyed this light-medium espresso, which was bright and strong, without the unpleasant acidity or bitterness that often follows. I don't typically recommend ordering a straight espresso shot at most coffee shops, but Happ does it well. Overall, it was a great experience -- lovely coffee and friendly baristas who genuinely care about their craft. I left with one of their limited-release coffees (a Peruvian Geisha), which I'm looking forward to trying as a pour-over at home.
