There is public and street parking close to Blackbird Nest and the other shops I wanted to visit. As I entered Blackbird Nest I received a pleasant greeting. The Blackbird Nest specializes in redesigned modern, antique and vintage furniture along with home decor, lamps, new clothing, bath and body products, prints, florals and wreaths plus holiday decor. The shop has several smaller rooms with various items incorporated throughout but items are organized well and prices are clearly marked. I liked seeing furniture, clothing, home and holiday decor all tastefully arranged together in each space. The store has a few narrow isleway's but most are spacious enough to browse comfortably down. They do have a dressing room to try on clothing you are interested in. Once you find it, there is street parking on Home Ave and a small lot on the property, both options free. You enter the shop on the northeast end of the building. There is a showroom of items that give you an instant feel of nicely arranged decor and furniture with the checkout counter in the back of this room. The rest of the business is arranged in an oval pattern of rooms that let you easily flow through the shop and finish back at the checkout. Along the way, I found a couple brands of candles gathered into displays, and lots of furniture; some painted, some still with original finish. I even found a hallway filled with dog treats! But mainly, there are lots of antique items that are in different condition dispersed among home decor accessories and furniture. If anything, the orderliness and open spacing feel almost empty compared to the majority of antique shops I have visited that are packed to overflowing. It made for a nice change of pace when antiquing. Because of the nice displays, it can be inspirational to shoppers for possible ways to display the items in their own homes. Finally got help when we said out loud "Maybe we can find someone who works here". No real help was offered. We asked about bedroom furniture and were told that they mostly work with designers. Oh, really? We looked at area rugs and window coverings, but again, no assistance was offered even though there was absolutely no one else in the store. So...maybe we don't look like we can afford their furnishings? Maybe we aren't their type of customer? We definitely felt like they had no time for us. We took our business across town, purchased everything we wanted at Distinctive Furnishings and even ordered some of the exact items we saw at Etc from Distinctive Furnishings at a lower price point. Beautiful store, but the customer service is sorely lacking. We won't sully their store with our presence again.

It reminds me of the kind of boutiques I would shop when I lived in Chicago and Austin and that I miss. Scout carries a fun variety. There is top quality vintage furniture and home goods with plenty of new products as well. You can find Baggu reusable bags, fun stationary, quirky gifts like Queer Eye or Golden Girls candles, stickers, and keychains. Today there was even a plant pop-up shop. The owner is the operator and is very friendly. I truly hope this store does well as it fills a niche here in Lafayette that we don't have otherwise. I only worry that not enough people know about this little gem. My only "complaints" would be that I want MORE! More hours (right now they're only open from Wed-Sat 10-3 which means I can only make it on a Saturday) and more inventory! More stationary, and small inventory.

Seasonal items are gorgeous, primitive everything (well, almost), all types of candles, beautiful quilts, florals, pottery, shelves, cabinets, furniture and so much more will keep you busy. The second floor has a large women's boutique with a dressing room and even more home decor. Jewelry and scraves can be found downstairs by checkout. I live in shelby county and honestly had never stopped into the sleep source. My dad recommended for stop in, so I did. Not only did they have more of a lift chair selection than lazyboy, their prices were comparable. And they were all on stock. They have a great selection to choose from. The nice lady that helped me-I believe her name is Ro. She was great!! Very personable, nice and kind. I was also in the market for an additional chair for my grandmother, for when she has company. I had some specific needs for this chair and she pointed me back to the clearance section. I got the perfect additional chair for about 80% off retail price. And!!! They had free delivery and took the couch away!! That was going to be a project itself for me so they made my day offering to take the couch! I would definitely recommend this place, and I will be back in the future.
