I have seen operas…read moreall over the country, and world, and I truly feel the Shreveport Opera is one of the finest in continual operation. They have been bringing non-stop classical productions to the local stage for almost 70 years now. Their first opera here was Carmen in 1949. The last two productions I saw from the Opera left me in awe: Sweeney Todd-The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and La Boheme. These days most, if not all of their productions take place in the opulent Riverview Theater (see my Yelp review and pics! : ) ) in downtown Shreveport. There is just something about a night out at the opera that makes a person feel enriched, and energized. Maybe even, dare I say, classy and refined. Go to the opera. Support the opera. Treat yourself/selves to a night at the opera. Indulge, if you will. I mean, if you're not there at the opera, it's like you're invisible or something! Like, like, you're some sort of phantom. You don't want to be the phantom of the opera, do you??? Lol. My apologies, y'all. I don't know what just happened there. I had to do it! Just had to!! Go to the opera, y'all!! Get you some culture!! Be highfalutin!! If just for one evening.

I saw Blue Man Group here last night, as a belated birthday present from my wife (We've always wanted to catch them out in Vegas at the Venetian, but usually get distracted by something else or other once we're out there, which is easy to do!). The show was amazing! It was one of the most energetic, intensely creative and funny live performances I have EVER seen! We LOVED it! We are so thrilled to have finally caught their show after all these years! And there's no place we would have rather seen BMG other than The Venetian! The Strand was the perfect host for this show! We LOVE this venue! (This review is an update! See my previous review here on Yelp!) We are VERY excited about this upcoming season at The Strand! BMG plays one more show here tonight at 8pm. Catch it if you can! It's fantastic! Here's some other highlights for this season, check the website for other shows and dates as there are many, many more! During the daylight hours the homeless are prevalent. I've noticed that all I see at an event are well lit parking lots and seas of people. I've never felt intimidated going to a concert. During the day is fun too. Walk down Elvis Presley ln and see the statues. The architecture. The surrounding buildings. Why 2 stars? I haven't been able to find a time when the box office is open (especially since Covid) to get tickets and avoid ticket masters fee hike. The chairs are super close together and don't allow any leg room. The pitch/ angle of the seats can allow folks in front of you to block your view. If the crowd decides to stand short folks like me are out of luck. I'll keep going . Book isle seats. And enjoy the show.

He continued to return to here as the place where he got his first big break. Not only did he return numerous times between 1956 and his death in 1977, but he hired Shreveport native James Burton to be an integral part of his  band and stage show. Interesting factoid... the phrase "Elvis has left the building" was first uttered here in Shreveport at the Hirsch Coliseum in 1956. This life-sized statue is in front of the memorial auditorium on, of course, Elvis Presley Way. The one, the only, Elvis Presley. No customer service skills at all. Communicating with her is a long drown out process. Getting responses to e-mails takes days at a time. Will not get on the phone. When you see her in person at the school, she will barely notice you. This is the first kids' activity I been to where the owner has not taken a little time to get to know the students and families, other than in the class she teaches. Do not set up any automatic payment at this school, because you will not get any money back if you can't attend classes or school is shut down (one NOT interactive video a week is not worth the tuition) due to pandemic, only school credit. Only pay for the recital the day before money due. Again, if it is slimed down from being in a theater you paid for to just her studio, and you can't attend due to you having more than two people needing to be in that studio (AKA other small children, and no babysitter), don't expect to get your money back. Only school credit, if she is feeling generous. Therefore, unless you are planning to go back to this school, expect to lose you money. Please also take note of the name of any reviews posted at the same time as this one. The owner has a tendency whenever she receives a bad review to go on that site, along with family and teachers, and give herself 5-star reviews.

It is truly the essence of what college theater is all about. I have seen countless plays here and I have loved every single one! The past productions have run from the family-friendly ("The Christmas Carol"-I've gone the last two seasons!) to the risque' ("The Shape of Things"-one of my all-time faves!) This season's lineup looks to be more of the same and I could not be happier about that! The season kicks off September 30th with "The Glory of Living" , a finalist for the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It also plays October 1, 2, 6-8. The next production will be "Five Women Wearing The Same Dress", a comedy by Alan Ball, writer and producer of "True Blood" and "American Beauty". It runs from November 10-13. "The Santaland Diaries" is a holiday comedy that should NOT be missed by the great writer David Sedaris, author of "Me Talk Pretty One Day", "Naked", and "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim". It runs December 15-18. And in the Spring, they will have-what else? "The Spring Awakening"! A musical, by who else? Duncan Sheik!-Yes, THAT Duncan Sheik!
