It is truly the essence of what college theater is all about. I have seen countless plays here and I have loved every single one! The past productions have run from the family-friendly ("The Christmas Carol"-I've gone the last two seasons!) to the risque' ("The Shape of Things"-one of my all-time faves!) This season's lineup looks to be more of the same and I could not be happier about that! The season kicks off September 30th with "The Glory of Living" , a finalist for the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It also plays October 1, 2, 6-8. The next production will be "Five Women Wearing The Same Dress", a comedy by Alan Ball, writer and producer of "True Blood" and "American Beauty". It runs from November 10-13. "The Santaland Diaries" is a holiday comedy that should NOT be missed by the great writer David Sedaris, author of "Me Talk Pretty One Day", "Naked", and "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim". It runs December 15-18. And in the Spring, they will have-what else? "The Spring Awakening"! A musical, by who else? Duncan Sheik!-Yes, THAT Duncan Sheik! From, "I am barely breathing, and I can't find the air, I don't know who I'm kidding, imagining you care"...C'mon, people! Don't make me sing the whole thing! "The Spring Awakening" will take place April 13-15 and 19-20. Support College Theater and the Arts! Support Centenary College! And as lovely as she is as a two story venue, I hold just as equal appreciation and admiration for the history that she displays both within and without. In front of this building right off Clyde Fant Parkway in downtown Shreveport, is the large statue of this city's, once a town's, namesake, Captain Henry Miller Shreve (Yelp Check In-Captain Henry Miller Shreve Statue! He adores selfie-seekers, just fyi, so selfie on, out front of here with the Captain!) Also quite appropriate is the placement of the Captain Shreve statue here, as you can see the Red River from here, where Shreve and his steam vessel the Heliopolis helped clear the aforementioned nearby waterway of the miles-long dastardly debris known infamously as The Great Raft! The interior of this theater pays further homage with large marble postings dedicated to both Shreve, and on the flip side, the Heliopolis. The gorgeous venue itself, has excellent acoustics, and great seating all around. The Shreveport Symphony and Ballet give unforgettable performances here often, and there are also world wide stars and touring shows that house here on occasion. The gorgeous structure itself seems to add that much more glory to an already glorious evening or matinee afternoon.

We are so thrilled to have finally caught their show after all these years! And there's no place we would have rather seen BMG other than The Venetian! The Strand was the perfect host for this show! This spot has been cleared, cleaned, and creatively deconstructed to be exactly what it is. I attended a documentary screening here once, for, Who Is Bozo Texino? The film was about old school locomotive graffiti done in the early and mid 20th Century by boxcar stowaways and rail-yard workers. The movie was projected on one of the brick side walls here. Very cool. This space was utilized during the actual filming of 2006's Factory Girl starring Sienna Miller, and Guy Pearce, as Andy Warhol. Hayden Christensen, Jimmy Fallon, and Jack Huston also starred. Right next door is the site of the former 516 Soundstage (Itself, a former Woolworth's-"And stay outta the Woolworth's!!") where a plethora of bands played in the early aughts (2000's). Shreveport skate band, I Wrestled A Bear Once, went from obscure local band, to an international sensation in this very neighboring building. Other bands that passed through those doors: Statues Cry Bleeding, The Infamous Jaguar Shark, Thursday, and Hatebreed. Also located within short walking distance from here is the statue (speaking of statues, right?) of legendary local blues man, Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter (see my Yelp review! : ) ) So, as you can see, yes, this is just a space, but it has vast potential and tons of history whereas most passer-bys will just see nothing.

A legitimate, yet intimate, small-to-medium sized live music and event venue such as this gorgeously renovated old tire garage which just had its formal opening for Music Prize Live on June 20th, 2019! I myself, was just back from the beautiful beaches of Alabama, sunburned, slightly tired, and I still had an absolute hoot in this here place. My friends and I jammed to visiting Nashville bands, Airpark, and *repeat repeat. It was an enjoyable time to be certain. I am looking very much forward to the future events, and the endless possibilities of this place in the near and far future. I am especially looking forward to the 2019 Louisiana Prize (Film, Food, and of course Music!!) Fest this Fall, which will undoubtedly use this space well, in addition to other locations. Shreveport is growing again, culturally, and very much so in the right direction. This garage shows this growth. And on some nights soon, you'll be able to hear that growth as well!!
