I've never been excited about going to church, and I'm always glad I went. Oftentimes Janice, the minister, says exactly the lesson I needed to hear at that time. This is definitely the best church that allows everyone to explore the spiritual path that is right for them, and encourages nothing but positive feelings. We've been very lucky to finally find like-minded people (although not usually around the same age), who also led us to lucky opportunities and positive experiences, always driving us in a better direction every single day.

I soon realized that God is growing a VERY strong community of believers in the next generation. So many churches in TC "market" to the younger crowd with big bands and ear-tickling sermons, but Jacob - the lead Pastor at Reliance - is DOING it. He preaches from the NASB because it is closest to the original Greek. His messages are about Biblical principals and the reasons for them. He gives historical context, so I can relate to my perspective from today. He believes in GOD first, husband next, wife, then children - without ANY chauvinism or arrogance. He believes in Jesus CHRIST the Messiah with no exception and no apology. The King IS coming and Pastor Jacob is leading his flock to Him with such passion! By God's grace and Jacob's leadership, I have gone from an arrogant doctor looking for a church that could serve ME, to a humble child of the King, yearning to learn and grow to be more like my Savior. I want to serve Reliance and my brothers and sisters in Christ. I want to join their community and invite others to come alongside us. Young or old, rich or poor, all are welcomed at Reliance for it truly IS the body of Christ!

I have been attending the Garden on Sunday's off and on for several months. Everyone seems to be…read morenice and cordial. Be very careful where you park your Harley or other two wheel ride. Today I thought I was late and parked in the cross hatch's in front. Not a single no parking sign of any kind and the nearest handicap parking slot was 30 feet away. I was also in direct line of sight of the two security men at the front door who watched me pull in, take off my PPE and walk to the front. I was given a hello and a nod as I walked in. After getting a cup of coffee and saying hello to a friend, I wandered back toward the front doors and caught a glimpse of my Harley. It had been moved. Completely shocked I approached the huge Security boy and asked if he had moved my bike. Yes he replied without emotion "someone needed to get in their vehicle". I glanced out at my Harley and there was another 30 feet open two the right of my bike. If I had locked the bike who knows how far they would have gone.

I have prayed for years that someone, anyone, there would just acknowledge my presence. Ask me who I was, how I was doing. Make eye contact. Offer a genuine smile. Invite me to participate in something. But no. Went to two men's retreats, optimistically hoping to meet some people and develop some relationships. I was ignored both times. Alone in a room full of people. When asked if I was going to attend a third, I had to laugh. No way I want to put myself through that again. Twice is enough. People who know each other there seem to stick together, and seldom attempt to reach out to someone they don't know. Tried to speak with the main pastor once to discuss the issue of fellowship, and he blew me off. He told me to find a small group. My experience with the small groups there is that they seem cliquish. For the most part, the associate pastors seem to have the same attitude. My wife was in the hospital with leukemia, and I thought I was going to lose her. I asked for someone on the pastor team to reach out to her. Ignored. When I mentioned it to the main secretary (a sweet lady), she told me she would bring it up to someone. Never heard a thing after that. I have veteran friends who have tried to enter with their certified service animals, and were turned away. They can do this if they want to, of course, it's a private business, and I support their right to do so. Still, though...it's a bad look. Why did I keep returning? Because my wife liked the pastor's biblical focus. One thing I can say about Steve Whinery is that he is absolutely unapologetic about his interpretation of the Bible. And good on him for that. We need pastors like that. There are too many milquetoasts behind our pulpits. But again, developing fellowship does not seem to be a priority. You know how some pastors will mingle with the parishioners after the service? Never seen him do that. Never seen any of the associate pastors do it either, with one possible exception. The takeaway is that you're on your own...find a small group of you want to connect. Don't bother the leadership, they have very important pastor things to do. On the other hand, it's probably just me.

I find myself thinking all week about what he says because he brings God's Word to life where I can relate, touches and shapes me into wanting to be more like Jesus. This place is gorgeous. It is the site of the Living Nativity, which is well worth attending at…read moreChristmastime. The prayer garden is lovely, the whole campus is beautiful with fountains and landscaping. The chapel has a huge rock waterfall in front behind a glass wall. Gorgeous. Large church with comfortable pews. Downstairs is a huge school-like area with "classrooms" for children divided by ages or grades. Kids go to Sunday School while adults are in the service upstairs. Kids have a short lesson, then they play and draw and do a worksheet. Adult service is nice. Starts with about 15 minutes of people up front singing, playing guitars, and playing drums. The congregation stands during this which is hard on the feet if you have any issues. Then a prayer, and intro/announcements, then they pass gold plates around for donations, and then someone speaks. It was fine, but a bit long. At the end they have a communion up front for anyone who wants to walk up and partake, with a loaf of bread torn into pieces and cups of wine to dip the bread into. They have a youth service in another building on campus for the teens, but I didn't go over there. I hope some members of this church will come here and review it too, maybe share more about it than I know. I think there is coffee and a restaurant somewhere but I couldn't find that part. Teachings are basic Christianity, praising Jesus, nothing extreme, no shouting or anything. People dressed casual but nice, from jeans to dresses and lots of people were drinking coffee or sodas in the chapel during service. The pastor and leaders were very warm, friendly and welcoming.

The teaching is deep and stirring, going through scripture line by line. The pastor has a lot of energy, producing a podcast, posting devotional videos on the church FB page, active in evangelism, discipling young men, as well as helping train pastors as a missionary. They prioritize prayer and teaching sound doctrine to kids and adults alike. The building is very small. Sunday mornings have a small country church feel, with scaled down music so you can hear the congregation singing.

The church itself was open, modern and spacious. They have a young Deacon here. That's a good thing as he will be around for awhile. This helps with growing a family feel for a parish. There is a children's room, which I love as it affords parents and children to participate in mass, without distracting the whole congregation when baby may not feel like being cooperative. The gift shop is full of the necessary items like rosaries, baptism kits, and brown scapulars! My favorite part of this church? When mass was over, half of the parishioners stayed back and chatted in the wait area, and there wasn't even hospitality. I came out of mass smiling.
