Parade was fun but several hours long. String bands were closer to early afternoon. Fancy Brigade Finale is outstanding but pacing between performance was too long due to TV broadcast.

What I like the most are the groups that perform traditional dances and wear traditional clothing. All the effort and time they take to learn to be so precise with the footwork which there's a lot of, is truly amazing. If you are interested in food and drink there are a lot of restaurants in the area participating in the festivities. You will find beer crawls and discounts throughout Center City. Philadelphia does a great job of coordinating with the organizations throughout the region to put on a very nice event. What's even better you have crowds coming from all over the area, country and visitors some of those are from other countries who also come to enjoy. There were no problems that I saw, the parade was peaceful and fun. Shout out to the Philadelphia police who kept everything in order, they were professional as well as nice.

They also have daylong events at the park along with downhill races and a raft race on the river towards the evening. Fun for all ages.

They came to our picnic that had about 90 people in attendance at Estell Manor Park in Mays Landing, NJ. Paradise Island was very professional and the dancing and costumes were extremely well done and professional. The emcee was really great and explained the dances and different islands very well. Of course there was a hula contest and Paradise Island kept everyone involved. We all had a great time and it was well worth it! Highly recommended!

In the past, they have held the event at Suburban Square, but this year it was at The Wynnewood Shopping Center. While the event is geared towards younger kids, I always come to check it out and see the great community. I came in and was greeted by the sight of a giant slide, carnival games and a large revolving swing. After that, I walked around a little more and saw a couple of more things including a fire truck, an ambulance, a police car, a moon bounce and a concession stand. The kids were really into it, which was nice to see. The concession stand was alright, but they served limited items. I only got a funnel cake and a lemonade. They were both solid, but the lemonade was a bit watery. Towards the end, the Phillie Phanatic and a cow mascot, advertising for a Kosher barbecue came out. For the entire time, a band was blasting music. While I did have a nice time, I had a couple of problems. First, parking was difficult to get as the parking lot was jammed, luckily I was able to find a spot. However, many people had to park on the street. Also, they said a K-9 was expected to come, but she was a bit scared so she wasn't let out. Altogether, I did have a nice time and I plan to return next year!

But the Derby itself adds on a whole other level of bike racing, artistic creativity, community spirit, and humorous fun that makes it one of a kind! In the weeks leading to the fest a number of local businesses like Philadelphia Brewing Company and Little Baby's Ice Cream, organizations like Neighborhood Bike Works, and artisans join forces to create movable sculptures out of bicycles. whether big or small the best I've seen have been done to the themes of Peanuts w/ Charlie Brown and pigs flying, shows and movies like Game of Thrones and Mad Max, ghosts, angler fish, and then some! All racers are pushed to the limit in a race that involves riding around the neighborhood, showcasing the originality and creativity of your ride, and seeing how well it can hold up while going full speed through a mud pit. Afterwards it ends with an awards ceremony that's equally as entertaining. Combine that with the fun going on during the festival itself, and you have one of those events that isn't to be missed!

But the festivities also spread out to other spots in the surrounding neighborhood. The highlight is undoubtedly the wacky bicycle parade. The bikes have all been imaginatively "artsified" with various funny themes and they then proceed through the East Kensington and adjoining Fishtown neighborhoods before ending up at the mud pit on Norris Street. There's music, there's food, there's art, and there's mud. Welcome to the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby and the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival!

The vendors are nice, for the most part, and they showcase some new beers as well as some classics. Most of the people who attend are in good spirits and have a great demeanor. Every once and awhile you will get some idiots but that happens no matter where you go. Staff/volunteers are helpful. Although beware of the guy in the Kilt, he can get a little grumpy over nothing at all. I will be back, for the beer but mostly, for the food trucks!

This has to be my favorite event of the entire year in Philadelphia. Seriously, I woke up the…read moremorning of this event feeling like it was Christmas morning. And my hopes and dreams were upheld! This is the second time I've attended, the last time being 2 years ago when the event was in the cruise terminal building. This time, instead, there were two large tents set up in a rectangle(ish) shape with food trucks and porta potties making up the other two side of the lot. Lots of tables dispersed throughout the center of the lot. I have to say this location gave it a much bigger space to work with and therefore... MORE BEERS TO SAMPLE! Duh, obviously the best part. This event hosted awesome vendors--there were plenty of brewers that I was familiar with and happy to see bringing some of my favorites (Flying Fish, I'm looking at you) and a whole bunch that I was also unfamiliar with (12% you are my new favorite). The food trucks were outstanding! Perfect addition to this event, as my last visit there was very few options for food. Even though it was relatively cold out for an outdoor event, the cold was forgotten once inside the tents (or maybe once I was drunk...). The people in attendance, despite being mutually sloshed, were very friendly and polite. The porta potty lines were manageable. There was hardly ever a wait for beer. I came with a great group of beer loving friends--we made our way in a large circle sampling more beers than I can count (or remember), had a food orgy at the food truck stations (that's the only way I can describe it), danced to some Grateful Dead played by the awesome live band, and generally had all of my Beer Fest dreams come true. This day made me so happy. Maybe it was the group of people I was there with? Maybe it was my general love of craft beer? It was basically a perfect combo of all the things I love. Whatever it is, I'll most definitely be going back year after year.
