STAY AWAY. This facility is now a teaching hospital -- but I have no idea what they're teaching…read more Certainly not how to treat seniors with respect, listen to symptoms, or provide basic bedside manner. Instead, it felt like they were teaching staff how to dismiss patients, rush through charts, and act annoyed that people even showed up. I never saw an actual physician. I was seen by an arrogant PA who didn't introduce himself, didn't attempt any bedside manner, and stood with his arms locked and hands tucked by his elbows like he was presiding over a kingdom. He looked down on my husband and me the entire time. I arrived with a blood sugar of 436 -- and I am not diabetic. I'm on high‑dose prednisone for a possible autoimmune disease that is still being worked up. Less than two weeks ago, another ER performed a CT scan. Yet this place insisted on doing another one. I regret not refusing. The "care team" bulletin board in the room was dated September 22, even though my visit was September 25. No one introduced themselves except the discharge nurse -- the only person who actually sat down, explained what was likely happening from the prednisone, and even spoke with my rheumatologist while I was on the phone with him. She was the only competent, compassionate person I encountered. I had stomach pain and nausea, and the PA wanted to do a CT scan with contrast, even though I am highly allergic. His solution? Pump me with more steroids to counteract the dye. I told him absolutely not. He climbed onto his high horse and said, "Well, without the dye we can miss things." I told him I'd take my chances. The monitor in the room wasn't working. A nurse or aide came in to fix it and nearly snapped the entire bracket off the wall. I told him I didn't feel right -- that I felt short of breath and like I was suffocating. I suddenly couldn't speak clearly and told him, "I can't think. Something isn't right." He kept fidgeting with the monitor, said he'd get a nurse, and walked out. No one ever came. The call button was unreachable -- hung on the wall from when they took me for the first CT scan. I sat in the dark as the sun went down. I have partial eyesight loss from a previous stroke, and I was literally sitting alone in a dark room. Someone finally walked in to see another patient and asked if they could turn on a light. I felt like I was in American Horror Story. I am not done addressing this unacceptable behavior. I worked in hospitals -- this was criminal. Their big expansions are nothing but corporate greed. There is zero quality healthcare here. Who is getting rich while patients suffer? Avoid any Novant facility. There is more to this story, but it's too aggravating to continue right now. If you want, I can also rewrite this into:

My 3 year old kid decided to split his nose open at 8pm on Christmas Eve while visiting his…read moregrandparents. He had a low platelet count a few weeks ago, so we rushed into HHH. He needed some stitches and an X-ray to ensure his nose wasn't broken, and some blood drawn for testing. The two ladies in the radiology room were awesome, my kid was also listening well for once! The Blood draw team consisted of Toryano N. one of the best nurses and Phlebotomists we dealt with. He was personable, funny, caring, and helped get my kid calm and took the blood quickly. Then after, came back with a popsicle for him as a reward. It's an extra step that was not needed, but showed some extra care. The doctor started off a little cold, but warmed up quickly, instead of stitches we asked about glue - and he told his the pros/cons - and let us choose. He did the glue and then we waited...and waited...and waited for paperwork. That is the negative star - just took too long to get our discharge paperwork. But being a primarily "Senior" hospital, they did a great job with a toddler!

this review is about their billing system. I can find no one at HH Hospital who will take…read moreresponsibility for their billing mistake. My 88 year old veteran husband was at HH Hospital for 24 hours. he received a bill for $32000. Despite explaining (while he was there) that his primary for this visit was the VA and giving the VA approval number etc the hospital billed the secondary insurer. that insurer is, correctly, is not paying. my frustration is that no one at Hilton head hospital will do the work to resolve this mess of their own making. this hospital is excellent at passing the buck.

They were very competent and as busy as they were they were efficient. It's clean. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Dr. Plzak of Coastal Carolina Urology is a phenomenal physician. My husband had a 5mm kidney stone that decided to drop during the Thanksgiving flight in from NJ. I took him to the ER Sunday at 6pm was in surgery Monday morning to start treatment. Dr. Plzak was able to break the stones apart without incident. His office girl Sharika went over and beyond the call of duty to make sure she got pre-authorizations as we are here out of state. The whole process from the ER to the second surgery Wednesday went way smoother than I expected! I wanted to call Marla the administrator but lost her # - but if you need a hospital this is the one you want.

I have been referred to Beaufort Memorial Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialists. I've seen several…read moreproviders there, and do not feel my concerns are addressed or acknowledged. They seem to only focus on pregnant women. I've underwent surgery and had had follow-ups and imaging done over the course of 14 months. It's scary enough to face potential infertility and chronic pain. To be referred to a specialist to manage your condition who seems to care less is discouraging. Recently, I called to make an appointment for a women's health annual and was told the next available appointment was 55 days out, meaning I'll run out of medication by then. I really didn't want to have to seek care over an hour away in Charleston or Savannah but I would encourage others to do so. Also their phone system (10+ minute hold time for ANYTHING) and parking lots are a total train wreck. Overall, one could expect consistent unpleasant experiences at BMH.

They were ignorant to the knowledge of her condition. Sent her home when she wasn't supposed to be sent home at ninety six years old. Don't unless you want to catch something, or if you want to die in the lobby. They have a they don't care, nasty attitude. I got him on an ambulance and off to Beaufort Memorial (read: Horrible). An ED doctor contacted me and told me he had Diverticulitis, malnourished, dehydrated and that he had a mass near his colon. The ED doctor told me they were going to put him in a room. A few hours later another doctor with a very bad attitude called me and said he had dementia on top of it all but was going to send him home but that a social worker would call to discuss the discharge plan. I made it clear that he is unable to care for himself and that he doesn't have any family that can assist in the area. So the next day nobody called about the discharge plan. I called and left multiple messages that were not returned. I call Medicare and entered an appeal to prevent discharge without a plan. That afternoon I was contacted by the hospital and they informed me they took him home. He didn't have keys to get into his house. They totally disregarded all of my requests. I called and talked to the discharging nurse and she was about as rude and uncompassionate as a person could be. They took him back to the hospital and yet again discharged him without having someone call me about the discharge plan or options to make sure he is checked on at home. There were a couple of good people I spoke with but overall it is bar none the worst experience I have ever had dealing with medical staff. If you have options to take your self or a loved one somewhere else I highly recommend you do that. This is the worst hospital on the planet IMHO. I'm a firefighter EMT and I would bypass that hospital if I could take a patient elsewhere. Shame on you Beaufort Memorial.
