If you have an eating disorder, I would not recommend coming to this hospital in any way, shape or form, seeing as Riverside's policy seems to be treating medical emergencies by telling patients they're obese and need to lose weight, even though they know this patient has an eating disorder and a wide array of other health problems and disabling physical diagnosis that messes with eating and weight gain. Riverside would rather call patients obese and tell them to loose weight instead of choosing to help them with the medical emergency they were experiencing at the time. Health care is not how I would describe the services offered at this hospital, unless you are a straight wealthy and healthy white man. One star is the least amount of stars I could give and I wish I didn't have to give you that many. The healthcare available in this county is truly abominable and the fact that you are on the top of the list out of the shit heap there is available, worries me and discourages me from seeking any medical care from anyone within a 20 mile radius of me. The drive up to Chicago is definitely worth it if you can do it. Can someone explain to me what a hospital is supposed to provide for patient care. My brother was brought in by ambulance for a potential stoke. A CT scan did show a stroke had occurred and that a large mass was seen on one lung with multiple clots. They needed to perform a MRI to see in more detail but unfortunately the machine was broken, and he had to wait three days to get the scan and results. They then suspected cancer of the lungs and needed a PET scan for confirmation, but the PET scan is not in the hospital and he has to be discharged to have one at their facility in Bourbonnais. They send him home on blood thinners so that he can have the scan. He then has another stroke and back to the hospital. They decide he needs a Biopsy of lung to determine the type of cancer in the lung and course of treatment. Sent home to have biopsy scheduled as outpatient surgery that is done two days later. The diagnose comes back stage 4 metastatic lung cancer. Appointment set for week away to see cancer doctor at Bourbonnais facility to discuss treatment options. He is sent home to await appointment. Two days before appointment he has episode of cant breath and turning grey, back to hospital test run show fluid around the heart and emergency surgury to put in drain tube performed. He is now being sent home to await still for the appointment to see cancer doctor to set plan for cancer treatment. My question is why does it take 3weeks to even begin talking about treatment for a serious cancer that is causing all the issues and why is the treatment not even started in the hospital? If this the way they treat people here you may want to consider another option . read more

People should work in the healthcare industry if they don't have matters. I went into Kankakee main location for ultrasound breast for more testing. I called 4 times on my way through advising I would be late due to traffic, I left voicemail. I finally got hold someone they said they left someone know. At check in, with the front desk. The tech called me they had to cancel me, I was 10-15 minutes late. The tech told me I should manage my time better. Like you don't talk to me, I'm coming from 45 mins away. Night shift in the emergency room appears to be staffed by only ONE physician (and a few mid-level providers like physician assistants, nurse practitioners, etc). Masks are back and they cannot EXPLAIN why short of saying increased cases of various illnesses. When I asked if the mask they handed me would stop an aerosol partical the Nuts "followed the science" and said yes. The nurse practitioner doesn't take the patient seriously. Comes in with abdominal pain high blood pressure gets a catscan that shows inflammation in the kidneys and gets a shot of an anti psychotic medication. And leaves in the same pain they come in with. Dr and nurse care is very good but administrative personnel wield the rules like clubs. Why they would put petty rude people to greet people and play gatekeeper is beyond me. If you can appreciate a hospital that does blanket denials about faith and medical exemptions, they are your hospital. While administrators were hiding behind their front line workers still collecting their big salaries while staff had very limited PPE, now its time for them to consider their beliefs and they could care less. Horrible hospital! If you care anything at all about your loved ones do not bring them to this hospital. My aunt was brought in to the ER. With out getting proper medical history, they over medicated which caused her to become non responsive and on ventilator in ICU. Luckily, she made it through that then was released and had to be brought back 2 days later for same thing she was brought in for the first time. Then they tried to release her and put her on hospice which was complete bs. Now she is home and doing well and in the care of doctors from Silver Cross hospital. Unfortunately she has to do iv antibiotics for 5 weeks to fight off infection from Riverside. If I could give 5 thumbs down I would! read more

I would give this hospital one star if I could. I sent my sister in law in an ambulance to Riverside hospital this morning around 8am. They are trying to discharge her at noon without finding out what is actually wrong that is causing her pain and vomiting. I had a very awful experience here before as well. The nurses and doctors are rude to the patients. I will never admit myself here or at St. Mary's. You would be better off heading up north and going to a hospital that has more compassion for it's patients. Kankakee is a little behind on patient comfort and care. read more

My husband came in for an accidental overdose on a new prescription of pain medication that he took properly. ER staff did not monitor him. He threw up on himself before I got here & they did not clean it off of his face, hair, gown, or blankets. I had to do it myself. Then he threw up in front of a nurse & started to choke on it. She ran out of the room & NEVER came back. I had to pick his head up & adjust his chair so that he wouldn't choke to death on his vomit. I was then left to also clean him up AGAIN. The doctor told me his oxygen was low & then went to leave the room. I had to stop him & ask him to get him oxygen. They got him the oxygen after being here for 4 hours. As well he was severely dehydrated. I had to ask for an IV but was told they would not give him 1 until he went up to observation, which was 4 hours later. So I had to get him to drink 2 glasses of water, orange juice, & a Gatorade because they weren't treating his dehydration. Now he's in observation. I've been here for 9 hours now after going home for the night & they've checked his vitals 2x. His blood pressure (BP) is very high, they gave him is BP meds 12 hours after he was supposed to take them. They are not working & have not done anything about it after I've complained about it multiple times. They won't discharge him due to his high BP which is understandable but they didn't treat it all morning. He is also running a fever. We were told 9 hours ago they would give him some Tylenol for the fever. Still have not gotten it after I've asked about it multiple times. They also did not treat his pain or the withdrawals that he is going threw all day. I've explained over & over that he has been on painkillers every day for 10 years. I understand not wanting to give him pain meds but there are meds they can give him for the withdrawals. I've come here my entire life & have never gotten bad care but the care my husband is getting is completely negligent & he is being completely ignored. If I had not been here he wouldn't have gotten oxygen in the ER, he wouldn't have been given anything to drink in the ER, & he may have choked to death on his vomit because the nurse ran away & never came back to check on him when he vomited while laying on his back & while being completely incoherent. His morning nurse Val did absolutely nothing for him this morning. Didn't even give him medication for his nausea & vomiting. Our morning nurse Val should be fired immediately. We just had a shift change back to the man that was taking care of my husband last night while I wasn't here. As far as Ik last night this new nurse took good care of him & now that he's here & I've talked to him my husband has just now been given medication for his high BP, & now the pain & withdrawals. But it's taken 9 hours, me complaining to multiple people multiple times & a shift change in order for this to happen. I will never come back to this hospital again. read more

I like Riverside. It always seemed to be on the cutting edge. This is my first choice for hospital in Kankakee. It is situated along the Kankakee River and seems to be forever getting bigger. Took my adult son to urgent aid and the DOCTOR there called me to the back to tell me he may be having a stroke and that he needs to be transported immediately to the er for treatment. She said he may be having a stroke. So I brought him to this place where I told the Dr's helper nurse wannabe what the DOCTOR told me and gave her the paperwork. So the bottle redhead with the bad dye job (she wears glasses so, add that to her nasty attitude and youll know who she is) she told me,"his eyes are fine, helps face is even, I'm not calling a code stroke on this!" So she started asking questions that my son struggled with so I answered for him and nurse wannabe asked, "can he speak for himself?!" So the other nicer nurse said she'd take his vitals and see where they could put him but the other nurse wannabe was so unbearably nasty and started showing the other nurse all of the pts they already had and complaining about it. Nowhere NEAR professional. The time we came in here was about 6 pm on 2.5.23 so if the ceo or the DON reads this, they can pull the tapes and see what I am talking about. This bi*** needs to be fired. There is no reason to treat pts who are sick and afraid like this. She obviously hates her job and the pts that make her paycheck her reality. Without us, she has nothing. She needs to learn this lesson. I have yet to see what other types of malpractice ajd neglect await us on this nightmare visit to this place. This wannabe nurse makes me want to take a road trip to cook county hospital. I would if my son wasn't in such bad shape. I'll post when we are seen and hopefully it will improve. Changeover takes forever and you would think they were discussing patient care during this time but the next nurse coming on 2 the new shift would no nothing. This summer (2019) I attended an office visit with my pulmonologist, a Dr Almeida who observed me for about two minutes and said "You aren't yourself". While I tried to figure out who else I was becoming she took a quick look at me and sent me across the street to the ER straightaway. Now mind you I had been feeling a little run down but certainly nothing serious in MY mind, but I went along with the plan mostly curious. I was immediately poked and prodded, shot up and shot out with the million things they do when you go to any ER and put on oxygen. Followed in a few days by an APAP machine. Unknown to me, after a previous visit to the hospital in May, I had left with a blood gas imbalance that was discovered in a test, but only allowed to be discussed with my Dr. I was told nothing but that it was important to see my Dr ASAP. I explained that I had an appt date already but the test taker told me it would be a good idea to move it up. I did. However when the time came, they had to cancel and go back to the original day. These things happen. Well, when I did get there and she admitted me to the hospital I found out why... First of all, I have sleep apnea. Bad. I was once told I was the worst case a Dr had ever seen. This didn't mean much to me at the time other than I snore loudly. Well it seems that it's a little more involved than that. I don't expel CO2 at the rate I should and what the test taker couldn't tell me after my pneumonia visit was that my blood was at 72% CO2. Normal is around 20% so yeah that was bad. By the time I actually got to the ER it was up to 83%. Every time I closed my eyes I was risking a coma. These Doctors and nurses fought for me with my insurance company to make sure I got the machine I needed at home to treat this and oxygen 24-7. Hard. My stay there was wonderful and I was treated like a King. (After we got it straight that I was capable of peeing all by my widdle self that is). I highly recommend this hospital and these people that are overworked and underpaid, and I want to thank them for saving my life. read more

From surviving Corona virus forward. ER at Riverside has a great team of nurses . I specifically remember Dr Sara White being so helpful to me. Between the ER and the 5th floor, they got my hubby through a very serious covid 19 complications of heart and lung issues. 3 weeks later he was released and we are thankful to the great team, Dr Haryani, Cardiology, Dr Khana, Pulmonology, & Dr Anderson, Infectious Disease. We give God the glory for all the prayers prayed for he and his team. We now follow up with Dr Haryani, Dr Khana, and Dr Guastalli as our Primary Care. I also had a very good experience in the Cardiology lab with Monique White who did an excellent job helping me through an Echo Stress test. She was the most professional and kind person who really explained things and emphasized how important the breathing was after you jump off the treadmill! Our experience is very positive. We switched from Loyola Maywood and Burr Ridge after many years there. Very happy to find quality care near home. Also for Back Surgery, Dr Jimenez was excellent. The nursing staff and check in people are always very nice. Thank you Riverside! read more

Ok, here is the best advice I can give. When seeking the services of a professional such as a doctor, lawyer, money manager, etc., hop on 57 and head north until you hit the Chi. The best in class generally are afforded greater opportunity for financial reward and the reward is potentially much greater in more populous areas. That said, my father was very ill due to an infection he incurred here, these things happen a LOT. We got him out of K3 and under the care if Loyola Dr.s. The first words the attending uttered to his coworker when he read his chart were "He was in Kankakee". His coworker nodded in understanding. Sad. read more

'Try to get as high a bill as possible for the patient to leave with and not actually help them at all' seems to be the norm here now. I was hospitalized in Riverside this February for a total knee. I felt the nursing care was good to very good. I had a problem with pain control immediately post-op. My nurse and the supervisor for the unit made multiple phone calls to my physician each time tweaking medication until pain control was achieved. I have no complaints regarding the hospital, doctors,nurses, or CNA's. Everyone was pleasant, concerned, and tried to please. Let me also add that I am a nurse, which probably makes me more critical,and I traveled from the Chicago suburbs to have my knee replacement done at Riverside. read more

I went to the er with a heart attack February 6 I was taken right in to a room were the hook me up to heart monitor and blood pressure cuff and and iv.then the nurse came in with a nitro glycerin pill that stopped the my chest pain.i had Dr.Tapal came told I was going to go to Cdu Observation. I was up there maybe part of the day Dr.wen who is now my cardiologist said I am going get angiogram.so they prepared my for the procedure.they did the angiogram that night I was in ccl iru for a night to monitor me for the night.the next Day i was moving to 3th floor tele I was there three days being heart monitor blood being drawn .i been working at riverside Medical Center for 13 yrs.i like to thank everyone involved that help get better.there was only one thing I would say watch what Meds they give you went get hospital check with the doctors before you leave the hospital read more

The lack of communication within the staff is awful. I've been seeing specialists from Riverside network since the beginning of my pregnancy which is a twin pregnancy and for whatever reason whenever I see someone they are shocked to learn it's a twin pregnancy. At my 4D ultrasound the tech cut my time because it was a twin pregnancy, mind you, when I scheduled the appointment i let them know it's two babies not just one. My OB/GYN is very passive about my concerns and you can tell she stops listening after a few words come out of my mouth. I have asked to be referred to a physician therapist since I'm suffering from SPD but of course I have not been referred. I'm 29 weeks now and I've had this issue since 20 weeks. I can't schedule anything on my own because my insurance needs me to be referred by my doctor. I've gone to their ER once because of the pain, they put me in a room on the labor and delivery unit. The room was filthy. The room did not look like it was sanitized and the only thing that looks clean was the fresh seats on the bed. I'm extremely disappointed and can't wait to change networks. I find it very hard to comprehend the bad reviews on this site of Riverside Medical Center. At the age of 72, my husband and I have had many experiences with the hospital and with all the doctors at the center and have never been disappointed in treatment of our health problems. All employees and medical staff have been very capable and concerned with our care. Over the years we have had many visits to ER, in-patient and out-patient surgeries, and medical visits and have nothing but praise for all concerned. read more

Won't go there again...my wife and I have been there several times and NEVER saw a doctor.Each time we have visited their ER one of two different NPA's have been in charge-one is courteous with good bedside manner,the other is (insert your favorite expletive here).I was there tonight with obvious swollen and discolored gums from a broken tooth.I was told by my dentist who can't see me for three more days to go to the ER.I was never properly triaged,never asked my pain level,just told to sit and wait for hours-only for a nurse to take a quick glance in my mouth as a formality when she already had it put in her head by the NPA in charge that there was nothing wrong and they did NOTHING for the swelling or the pain.I would only recommend going to Riverside ER when your in pain if a 50/50 chance of getting proper care is good enough for you. read more

I've been going to Riverside since 1986. I've been treated by many Dr's there for everything from simple infections to cancer. I've had countless procedures, a few relatively minor surgeries a few very serious surgeries done @ Riverside as well, a few of which saved my life. From top to bottom (so to speak) the ER staff, the ICU staff, the Doctors, nurses, Med Techs, Respiratory Team & most all employees I've come in contact with over the years have always been absolutely wonderful! Sometimes the nurses & med techs on the floors are very, very busy because they are, in my opinion, overworked & understaffed & over the years it seems to be getting progressively worse. That is my only problem with Riverside. But I've always received great care from the staff, no matter what! Please, try to remember that caregivers often have AT LEAST 1 patient who is sicker than you, so whenever possible, please try to understand this? *A SPECIAL, HEARTFELT, LONG OVERDUE, SHOUTOUT TO THE RT TEAM WHO'VE PULLED MY BUTT OUT OF THE FIRE SEVERAL TIMES!!
