Took a little road trip to Davis Country Store in Old Fort to treat my husband to his ultimate…read morebirthday breakfast--and it did not disappoint!
He's a die-hard fan of liver mush and biscuits, and this spot came highly recommended. Just a quick and scenic 30-minute drive for us, but it felt like we were uncovering a true hidden gem.
We were greeted warmly and even got to chat with the owner about how truly regional liver mush is--love that kind of local food convo.
I went with the BEC (bacon, egg & cheddar) on toasted sourdough, and it was everything a breakfast sandwich should be--crispy bacon, perfectly fried eggs, melty cheddar, all hugged by golden sourdough. So simple, so good.
My husband ordered the biscuit with liver mush and cheddar, plus a side of their creamy, peppery sawmill gravy. That biscuit? Fluffy, buttery, and big enough to share (but let's be real, he gave me just one bite). One bite with gravy spooned over the top and his birthday was off to a mouthwatering start. He already said next time he's adding a fried egg.
We sat in their cozy dining room, surrounded by shelves of local hot sauces, jams, teas--and explored their adorable adjacent shop full of handmade knits, vintage clothes, jewelry, and gifts. Total treasure trove. This is the kind of shop you're going to find that one of a kind scarf that everyone is going to ask where you bought it!
If you're craving a satisfying, affordable, and oh-so-Southern breakfast or lunch, this spot is 100% worth the drive. Can't wait to come back!
