The tarmac is a bit pitted in places and the car park signs are a bit defaced by grafitti and in general need of repair or replacement. It's an easy car park to find off the main roundabout as you enter the town - just follow signs. We always use this car park as it's so handy for the shops and not far to the promenade and sea front either.

Once the largest sand dune system in Europe they are a huge network, spreading across towards the Ogmore/Porthcawl coast. The dunes also claim fame to the highest single sand dune in Europe, known as the 'big dipper'. The dunes are very popular with kids for rolling and sliding down, (me included)runners for training (once saw Lynn Davies, Olympic long-jump gold medallist, running up them) and local wildlife enthusiasts. Scenes from the famous film Lawrence of Arabia were filmed at the dunes. Good desert little heat :) There is a footpath to the village of Merthyr Mawr and then one to Ogmore and its castle. WONDERFUL (dangerous?) stepping stones across the river). Also nearby is Candlestone (Candleston) Castle. (Really a fortified manor house.) A truly great area to spend a day or two exploring and picnicing. Race you up the big dipper!

This is an open-air car park on one level with a lot of spaces, practically opposite the other one. It's not far to walk into town from here - just around the corner towards Tesco. Up to 4 hours it's only £2 (between 8.00am and 6.00pm) which is very good these days, and free for disabled badge holders.

All on one level, it's very large but can sometimes be difficult to find a space at busy times. Charges (Mon-Sat 9-5pm): 2 hrs 80p 3 hrs £1.30 4 hrs £1.80 24 hrs £3.50 It's free for disabled badge holders in any bay (though there are 11 designated spaces) and free for bikes as well in approved areas only. A season ticket is available. There are no toilets. Within the car park there is a recycling centre for glass, tetrapaks, paper and magazines and is accessible 365 days of the year (unmanned). A funfair takes place in this car park twice a year so (presumably) you will not be able to park there at those times!

There are loads and loads of shops in the Quadrant like HMV, Game , W H smiths , Clinton cards and Debenhams. It can get pretty packed out with shoppers at peak times and especially with the run up to christmas. At christmas there is usually a lovely christmas tree with lots of decorations which make it look really nice. The shopping centre always looks clean and tidy and you will always find a cleaner pottering around.

The Quadrant is like many indoor shopping centres across the UK. It mostly houses chain stores like…read moreHMV, Clarks, WHSmiths, Faith and so on and so forth. Shops you find in every town in Britain. The Quadrant itself is quite pleasant though, it has a predominently glass roof which allows it to be very bright and airy inside. There's a gallery cafe which looks out on to the main concourse of the shopping centre which is great for people watching. The bus station also comes out of one end, so finding it is very easy, and also you won't have far to carry bags to get a bus. Or even to get to your car if you choose to park in the NCP which also adjoins the Quadrant. You can also get to Swansea Market via an entrance in the Quadrant. The largest store by far is Debehams, which is a large department store and takes up almost an entire wing of its own. ANECDOTE: I was sick on the doors of Debehams one Christmas as I was shopping for presents and very rapidly came down with a virus. There are public toilets (free) upstairs which are clean and well maintained. The buidling is decorated according to the seasons, and a large Christmas tree is the focus during the winter.
