The ASWP's website says that this reserve contains 134 acres of sanctuary, several trails that total five miles, and facilities such as a nature store, native-plant nursery, play area, educational classrooms, teachers' resource center, and a library. Rental spaces include a barn, auditorium, and classroom. My husband and I visited the nature store and the native-plant nursery. At the nature store, we saw products such as bird feeders, bird seed, binoculars, gardening gloves, nature books, t-shirts, honey, stuffed animals, puzzles, greeting cards, etcetera. At the native-plant nursery outside, we thought that the plants were somewhat small in size but had a varied selection and were priced reasonably. The ASWP's website has a list of available plants, which includes over 150 species of trees, shrubs, and perennials that attract birds, butterflies, and bees. In the future, I plan to return to Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve to hike their trails. I think that I would enjoy seeing their woodlands, fields, streams, pond, and wildlife.

I was simply looking for a park where I could enjoy my lunch outside and I was near Bellevue Memorial Park. Google found it for me, I had no idea it was even there. After I enjoyed my lunch, I walked around the shelter where I had set up shop because I thought I saw a trail. I ended up finding a map posted in the park that actually listed several miles of trails that mostly lead through the woods. I returned a week later when I had the time to devote to some exploration. The trails themselves are not blazed but they are easily navigable and there are signs at all the trailheads. Most are not loops but meet up with other trails and you're never far from a road. I wandered the squirrel, falcon, fox, herron, nettle, deer, salamander and rabbit trails. The trails are well-maintained. Expect some elevation as I encountered lots of ups and downs. Be cautious, too, of water crossings. I also saw signs for a health and fitness trail that I will be back for once the weather is warmer. There is a small parking lot by the pool that is I think the easiest spot if you're there for the trails but there are also places to park along the sides of the road. I imagine in the warmer months (especially on the weekends) parking will be hard to come by with both the playground, ballfield and pool sharing this space. I had a good morning of hiking, though. I heard birds during my hike and even spotted a blue jay. Several deer crossed my path while, ironically, I was on the deer trail. Ramps were also set up throughout the trails for mountain bikers. While I like knowing that I'm not far from a main road it can also take away from my enjoyment of my hike when the songbirds are competing with the traffic. But deeper into some of the trails it is easier to get lost in the nature surrounding you.

There is a paved 3+ mile walking path (relatively flat) that spans the park. Lots of parking. Kids playground. Miracle League handicapped accessible ball field. A catch & release pond. Flower garden. Brush Creek runs through it. Three body weight exercise stations. Too bad the coffee shop at the entrance was ahead of its time & closed! Great park! Very clean.

These speeding cars are oblivious to the fact that it is a park full of adults, children, and special needs individuals. They are putting everybody at risk.

This seems like a great place to take a leisurely Sunday hike. There's a small, stone-covered…read moreparking lot. I got out of the car and immediately heard several birds. I put on my hiking boots (which are almost always in my car), and trekked through about two acres of the hundred and forty-one acres of land hete. It's ownwd by the Allegheny Land Trust. While sitting in my car, I saw a nice orange cat making its way through the marshy grass. I didn't see any Wildlife but I did hear a lot of birds. Among them Cardinal, blue jay, sparrows, and what I swear was a Whipporwill, and a NutHatch. I also heard a couple of woodpeckers, but unfortunately couldn't see them. I could tell they were very close by, but I didn't want to interrupt their brunch by trying to find them. I gave this four stars because although there is a significant amount of land to hike, there are no directions on where the trails are. From my car I walked straight ahead (diagonally) and eventually ran into some trails. There are some jumps for horses because this land is also used by equestrians. The two trails that I saw were not marked or groomed. It's early in the year so perhaps that will change over time. The only thing I saw what is a small green sign posted on the fence on the edge of the parking lot. It stated some basic activities you can enjoy, and some prohibited activities. There are places here to fish and hunt if you have the proper permits, but didn't state where. I parked my car and walk diagonally straight ahead it eventually ran into to Trails. Neither of them were groomed or marked. I chose the one heading west and eventually came to a very strange and eventually came to but I assumed was some sort of a picnic shelter. I love picnics look like a great spot. As I approached, I noticed two things one that the device is hanging from that shelter that indicated it clearly was not for picnicking. It reminded me of an episode of CSI, and a real-life crime scene. Let's just say there are some things that you clearly don't want to know about your neighbors' activities. Second, there was barbed wire protecting this property. Beyond this "structure", I noticed a house with a very nice in-ground pool. I clearly wanted to stay on this side of the barbed wire and not possibly get shot for trespassing. On my hike back to the car, I noticed some milkweed pods on the ground. I marveled how their silky, soft insides had survive the harsh winter. I also saw what looked like some very small blue berries that the deer and the birds hadn't eaten. The second star was for no restroom or port-a-john. I thought that a 141 acre spread would have a restroom. For those of us that love stargazing, March 20th there is a Spring Equinox stargazing event here. It, like the hiking here, is free.

It has a Little Free Library,…read morea large, glass enclosed community bulletin board, pretty gazebo, little pergola, and a nicely landscaped, crushed stone walking path, dotted with brightly colored pinwheels and several park benches, decorated with yellow and pink ribbons. However, I give it three stars. Thinking as a mom, on the left of the stone pathway there's no fence! There is a 90 foot drop down into a gully with broken tree branches, mud and fallen trees everywhere. This is just an accident and a lawsuit waiting to happen. For this reason alone, if Daughter were younger than say, 7, I probably wouldn't bring her here. I wouldn't bring any child here that was very young, and/or didn't listen to stay where told.

But I've been coming to this state park for years, especially for kayaking and birding. One summer we decided to keep kayaking until we had explored the entire perimeter of the lake. It took several trips, but we never finished because the lake is too vast. There's a great mix of vendors for rentals, food and boat rides, but there are still plenty of wild spaces to enjoy. Whether it's sailing, hiking, swimming, or kayaking, you will find some great recreational opportunities here.

A generous amount of well kept up restrooms throughout the park. We started at a cabin that was modern and good looking. Each cabin sleeps six. Note: the cabins have nice showers and furniture but there are no other things aside from a refrigerator. Stove with oven, and microwave. Bring your own plates, cutlery bedding and glasses/cups. We were aware so we brought a press for coffee. Great park for families.
