We walked the whole "lakeside" loop which as a casual pace with many pauses took about an hour and a half. Only negative is finding parking can be challenging but I suppose limited parking does mean for lower populations walking which is nice.

We always enter from the "access trail" side. It is a smaller parking lot but we like coming in from this side. Depending on what time you get there, you may have a slight wait time to park but it is usually pretty quick and efficient. We usually arrive before 8:30am and have had no problem finding a spot. There are I believe at least 2 handicap spots at this entrance. They also have bathrooms available that are always clean and kept up. At the main entrance, entering from (otter creek). There is a welcome center with information and a small gift shop. Before bringing a stroller we would always go on the trail through the park woods but now with our baby and taking a stroller we take the paved path which was just redone and is SO nice!!! Strollers and bikes are not permitted on the dirt path so keep that in mind. There is so much beauty to look at while enjoying a nice peaceful walk. Eagles, owls, deer, frogs, turtles, birds, and more creatures to look at all while visiting Radnor. It is a staple as a local to get outdoors and into fresh air. Great place to take kids or any family that is visiting or even a great place to go on a nice solo long walk.

The Parthenon building itself is stunning and makes for some beautiful photos, even on a cloudy day. Just a heads up, the Parthenon is currently closed until June 28th. The only downside was that there was unfortunately quite a bit of trash around the park and in the water, which was disappointing to see in such a beautiful area. Overall though, it was still a lovely place to explore while in Nashville!

There's a nifty little elevator you can use to get from the bridge to the park too. It's well-lit but a bit dirty/smelly. But it looks cool! They also have outdoor concerts here occasionally. Usually just local bands--the big names are at Bridgestone Arena and the Ryman--but the smaller name bands are often better anyway! No seating, so bring a blanket. There's also a little picnic area right by the box office under the bridge. This is no fancy park with tons of nature, but it isn't supposed to be. It's a great balance between a park and urban life. Once you're ready to get back into the city, just walk back across the bridge and you're downtown again! I love the view of the Nashville skyline from this park too. 100% recommend.

At this point I'm one trail run away from qualifying for something I didn't sign up for. I also golf here more than a retired grandpa in Florida. Like, aggressively. If you need a tee time, sorry, I might already be there. I've made friends, ran races, had full character development arcs, and I see the same deer so often that we're basically on a "head nod" basis. I've named them. They know my schedule. One of them owes me money. Honestly, Nashville Parks should either sponsor me, put my name on a bench, or issue a restraining order.

I have been making my way to all the Metro parks and Shelby Park sits high on my list right now, and for good reason! The park is well equipped with all the park staples and even a few specialty areas. I come here for the trails, as I love wandering around the park, through the woods, by the golf course and around the water. Just something about it all that makes the walks a bit more enjoyable. In addition to the trails the park offers the classic park offerings such as playgrounds, gazebos and sporting fields. The park is well kept and clean. All parks are a bit worn and dated, but it is not enough to detract from the park itself. Nashville does a good job keeping the parks in good working order, as well as clean. Overall, I am a fan of Shelby Park!

A nice place to walk with a great view of the Tennessee State Capitol…read moreWhile driving through Nashville, we noticed the large grassy park directly in front of and down the hill from the Tennessee State Capitol and decided to stop and walk around. The park is a long open area that stretches downhill from the Capitol and provides a nice break from the buildings and traffic of downtown Nashville. There is parking along the sides of the park, although there was some construction taking place in parts of the area during our visit. We parked near the World War II Memorial, which I thought was very well done and a fitting tribute to those who served. From there, we walked through some of the large grassy areas and looked at the different memorials and features throughout the park. One thing I would strongly recommend is walking all the way to the lower end of the park and turning around to look back toward the Tennessee State Capitol. From there you get a very nice view looking up the hill toward the Capitol building with the park stretching out in front of you. In my opinion, it was one of the best reasons to stop and walk around rather than simply viewing the park from the car. There is plenty of open grassy space, and the various memorials give you several things to see as you walk through the area. Overall, this was a very nice unexpected stop while we were driving through Nashville. If you are visiting the Tennessee State Capitol or are already in the downtown area, I would definitely recommend taking some extra time to walk through the park, see the memorials, and especially enjoy the view from the bottom looking back toward the Capitol. There is so much space for dogs to run, play, socialize, and explore nature - as well as water stations, tennis balls, and two double-gated entrances! In a different area of the park, there is a variety of playground equipment and picnic tables, great for all ages. The park itself seems well maintained with clear pathways and also has beautiful murals throughout. This is a true gem in downtown, which feels tucked away yet is close to other Capitol View businesses (convenient to "make a day of it" and grab a bite to eat before/after the park!).

There's a big children's playground, a sand volleyball courts, and picnic benches. There's a dog park as well. There are free parking spots right along the curb of the park, with 2 hours limit. At the entrance of the park there are multiple gates built with steel beams. The park seemed to be safe and well lit. Even after dark, we were comfortably hanging out in the playground and taking pictures around the park. The underpass with the big mural has big light posts on each side, so the pictures come out nice even at night time. The murals at this park are so colorful. Of course the most famous one is the 5 famous singers. Then there's the graffiti one at the railway underpass. Then there are multiple other colorful ones that look really amazing. We took a lot of pictures in front of all of these amazing arts.
