We planned a short trip to see Crater Lake and wanted a place to stay for a couple nights that wouldn't break the bank but would be comfortable and clean. We took a flyer and reserved two nights at Riverfront Lodging. That was a great decision! First off, Dana helped me with the reservation and she was delightful from the first interaction and was so pleasant and helpful during our stay. They were booked up already for the three riverfront rooms but she put us in room 15, which was great. The room has dedicated parking right outside room (all rooms are on ground level as this is a small property). The room had been recently remodeled, smelled and looked clean and inviting. Laminate flooring, a small fridge, a Keurig type coffee maker with several pods and a sink. Unlike the noisy AC units in your typical hotel, this room had a wall unit that was quiet and worked great. The bed was comfortable and they provide plenty of pillows, an extra blanket and lots of pristine white towels. I was really impressed! We didn't have to call for any extras because they thought of everything...even a charging station at each nightstand! In addition, there is a lovely guest deck for sitting and enjoying the river. We will definitely reserve with with them again and Room 15 was a good option if the riverfront rooms aren't available. read more

Call to book just one night with Dana because we were going to crater Lake and didn't think we needed an extra night, once we got into the beautiful room with my mom and daughter we decided we definitely needed to stay. So when you book your two nights stay, I strongly suggest you pop down to pizza at the Cove for the best Stonefire pizza I've ever eaten. Not only do you wake up to a beautiful nature riverfront view, but it's nice and quiet. Highly recommend this hotel. read more

It was our anniversary. Last minute we decided on an area near Crater lake and happened upon Shady Cove and Riverfront lodging. The goal was something romantic by the water and somewhat rural. Booked online and entered we would check in at 9 pm. Nice lady called me during our 5 hour drive there to let me know she was going home and would hide my key. I knew they had remodeled most of the hotel and found out later all but 1-7 have been re-done. When we arrived I was so happy to see the deck out front and then I opened the door. You could see straight through the clean and comfortable room out the back slider to the river. Perfect! It had a microwave and fridge and a newer kurig coffee machine. The faucet on the sink glows so that made brushing my teeth fun. Haha. Internet was spotty but we wanted rural so it didn't bother me. And to be fair I never logged into their Wi-Fi. We enjoyed our stay very much. Last note, after chatting with the manager, she would pick room 10, but this is not a river room. She said it was like a 2 bedroom apartment. So if your a group, that would be the way to go. Our river room 20 appeared to connect to river room 19 if needed. But I am not sure. Epic stay in a perfectly sleepy town. read more

Just okay. Make sure you arrive by 10pm otherwise there office is closed and then not sure what happens after that... Room was okay and clean. The floor was sinking in different parts of the room which was weird. The sink was also missing the center piece, so if you dropped anything down there say goodbye. It's okay for a 1 night stay but I wouldn't stay any longer. Also the lock on the doors was flimsy, it was like the lock on a room in my house! Ending on a positive, there is a nice river with a deck in the back you can walk to. read more

Such a sweet independent motel. A very different experience than a large chain. We ended up here because we were rained out of our campsite but next time will just stay here. We were greeted by a water feature outside the front desk. The lobby sports a beautiful needlepoint rocker and huge old safe. Our room was the last dog friendly room - (dog friendly might be a relative term = under 25 lbs and a $200 refundable deposit). Room much bigger than needed 2 room suite. The walls and ceiling had dark paneling so rooms dark and cozy. However, there were several different buildings of different vintages, perhaps each has different finishes. Everything spotless and fresh. Nightstands on BOTH sides of bed. Service very friendly and available 24/7 in case of emergency. The landscaping throughout is colorful and delightful, including a rose garden. Best of all is the Rogue River. There is a very nice sitting area in which to get lost in nature. read more

(Review based on 4.5 stars) Stayed here last week with my husband and 2 dogs (We did not have to pay a pet fee. Also although the owner had told me that normally he allows 2 dogs per room, he said he would allow us to have all 3 of my dogs with us in the room, as long as they are well behaved. But my husband & I ended up checking 1 of our dogs into a pethotel because it can be a challenge to travel with 3 dogs for a week). When we checked in, one of the owners greeted us and was very friendly. He was helpful in suggesting a few places to make sure we go check out that is around the area or within a reasonable driving distance from the motel. The room we got comes with 2 queen beds and a kitchette for $71 per night (regardless of week day or weekend. There is also a small discount for weekly rates). What is unique about this room is that there is actually a separate room with a queen bed instead of having 2 queen beds in one room like you would find in hotel room. It is nice that the person staying in that separate room has a little bit more privacy. There is even a small closet in that room as well. The kitchenette came equipped with some pots pans, dishes & utensils, which is nice that you do not have to bring your own. It even came with dishwashing soap (but I brought my own sponge). There was also a mini fridge with a little freezer in the fridge. I was actually pretty happy that my husband wanted a kitchette because there are not too many restaurant choices around the area and honestly, a lot of them do not look really appetizing. My husband and I cooked each night while we were staying (if you forget some things, you can always drive to the Super Walmart, 10 miles away, and buy those items. Or you could also go to the Shady Cove Market that is down the street from this motel). The restroom is a little on the small side, but I have stayed at hotels with smaller restrooms. Our room was cleaned each day and even our dry dishes in the dish rack were put away when we returned to our room. The grounds of this motel is really nice. There is this large grassy quad that is perfect to lounge around (you can also smoke here, as all their rooms are smoke free) and walk your dog to let him/ her relieve him/herself. There is also an area you can walk out to the river. Right around the river area, there is a deck (part of the common area) where you can come out and grill and also lounge around (and yes smoke if you need to). There are actually 3 rooms here that are called the river rooms, in which they have patios that look out to the river. Overall, this motel was a really great place to stay and make our stay in Shady Cove Oregon quite an enjoyable one. If I come back to this area, I would love to stay here again. By the way, this place does offer wifi, but only the rooms closer to the motel office benefit. The other rooms use the telephone line internet. If you do not have the phone lines, the front desk can give you one and also help you set it up if you have issues. Since we stayed in room 12, we were able to use the wifi. But the wifi was rather very slow. So my husband was able to bring his router (I knew about the internet situation ahead of time) and it made the internet in our room a bit faster. read more

What a cute motel! We already thought from the other Yelp reviews that we would enjoy our stay here, but reality was so much better than the pictures and stories in this instance. The woman whose husband's family owns the place welcomed us warmly and gave us good tips in the neighborhood. The room itself was larger than what we expected and the beds feel nice and firm. The shower was the best part: good spray and nice and clean. The interior was decorated with cute chique. The flowers, especially the roses, are in full bloom in the little park right opposite our room. The decks in the back, and on the river as promised, gave plenty of photo opportunities. A nice, affordable place to lay over or stay a few days. read more

This is far from a "nice" or "5 star" motel. This is a unique, comfortable, clean, small town rustic place to stay that is situated on the beautiful Rogue River. My family had stayed here off and on over the last 15 years. We have never had a bad stay here. It could definitely use some updating but not a bad place to stay at all, especially for the price. My husband and I decided to finally stay in a river room on our most recent visit to the Royal Coachman. It is such a cozy cute little room with a balcony that over looks the river. If you're in the area for fishing, and want something cozy and clean and affordable without high expectations(such as continental breakfast, room service, pool etc) then this is a great place to stay. read more

So just a heads up for anyone looking at the Royal Coachman motel in Shady Cove Oregon... Don't! Asked to speak to an owner regarding their bizarre policy of not letting one party reserve multiple rooms or pay for more than one unit. (Trying to reserve several rooms for a family retreat). I was told owner would call me and instead when my son called back was told they won't rent ANYTHING to us..we are blacklisted???!!!! I was very polite and reasonable when questioning the manager,Carla. So not quite sure what the problem is. I just know Jerry would NEVER have handled a (repeat) customer in that manner! read more

The owners are some of the nicest people I've met in southern Oregon and are always willing to accommodate. Nice place, but not worth $73 (including taxes) for one queen bed facing the river during off-season. We checked in at around 8pm and got room #20, out in the back. Supposedly a designated non-smoking room....surrounded on each side by smoking rooms. Dumb. Yep...we woke up to cigarette smoke thanks in part to the very thin walls (through which one of these smokers decided to crank up the TV and guffaw at 4am) and the fact that each room has an adjacent deck. Viewing the river and listening to it while sitting outside on the deck was very nice. Unfortunately that was cut short by the sickening cigarette smoke. We went out for breakfast and came back to smell our room had smelled like smokers were in it. Ewwww. Gross. The room itself was basic fare. Clean but nothing to write home about. "Free Internet" came in the form of a DSL 10/100 Ethernet jack on the wall. No Wi-Fi. Not entirely handy when you have an iPad or a laptop with wireless built in. Who carries around ethernet cables anymore? IF they had any Wi-Fi, it was for the rooms closest to the office only. The next night, we stayed at another motel well north of Klamath Falls near Chiloquin, OR. Nowhere near a river, much smaller, definitely older but had an awesome shower, queen bed, Wi-Fi, thicker walls and...in an ALL non-smoking building. Better experience at $45. read more

This is an old hotel that serves a good purpose. 3 separate buildings; the first set is the standard strip of rooms priced under 50 dollars. the asphalt runs out and there is a set of 4 rooms in building 2. I was in building 3 that has 3 rooms and a deck facing the river. At a slightly higher price (under 90) if you want ambiance, buy these. Now, as far as I could tell, every room is mostly different. Mine had a wonderful bed; small but soft pillows. a "low" sofa, small but practical bathroom area. No extra chairs or places to set your gear on. The room next door has a kitchenette. The deck could have used an extra chair and small drink table. Some in our group complained of small showers, mine was a tub combo. There is a public deck to the right of this building set that has a BBQ for use on it. You can mostly see all the decks from the others, so privacy is out. Wifi was mostly unuseable, but wired internet is available in rooms, bring a cable for the latop read more

We chose this place on a road trip my boyfriend and I were on around Oregon and Washington. We made a stop in Shady Cove after we hiked Crater Lake. The place is quaint and surprisingly very serene for being right off the highway. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We got the room right off the Rogue River, it was an amazing view and the room was very nice. We loved the king sized bed, the cleanliness and the amenities. Many flowers and trees and a few friendly cats the wander the property as well. I would definitely stay here again and again, I would upgrade to the river room if they have it available. So nice to go to bed and wake up to a river view! Love this place! read more

My wife and stayed here in one of the rooms overlooking the river. The room was very clean. The motel is older but well-taken care and maintained. The owners were friendly and at around $75 a good value. The deck is nice to sit on and watch the river. The only downside is that the adjacent two rooms also have decks with no partition between them. Apparently at least one room is smoking. Although there was a smoker the wind (thankfully) was blowing the opposite direction. Recommend adding partitions between the decks for privacy and true non-smoking experience. However that being said, we will stay here again in the future. read more

Turned us away with failing headlights with my blind spouse. My license had expired 1 day before while away and would not listen. My spouse had a valid OR ID and we offered 200 deposit and the lady (owner) still refused. We are locals in a nearby town but feared driving after a day hiking and losing all lights. Some friends and I were on a 2-week motorcycle trip recently and stayed here on our first night. What an unexpected treat! The motel grounds are lovely due to Tom's green thumb and his wife, Carla, was friendly and cheerful. We got dinner to go at the diner next door and sat out on the communal deck for dinner that evening. It was lovely! Staying at the Royal Coachman was not the worst experience I have ever encountered, but not the best either. Our reasons for choosing the Coachman included the location on the river and Shady Cove. The average (but clean) rooms had thin walls covered with wood paneling and were very simple. If I was to return, I would chose one of the rooms facing the river and enjoy the view. The hotel is simple, clean and safe... but do not expect a 5 star hotel. read more

As a disclosure I'd like to state that if I could rate this business with ZERO stars I would because it isn't even WORTH ONE. Initially when I drove into town I thought, "What a cute little town." Naturally I assumed that since the town was so small - the people and business owners would be friendly. This wasn't the case for this motel. My husband was doing work in the area, and this is where he was staying. The day after our children and I arrived to visit him for 3 days the owner approached my husband and told him that he needed to inform him if other people would be staying in the room. He proceeded to rudely tell my husband that rates change when more people stay there - even though their website specifies nightly rates per room - NOT per person rates?? My husband just said okay and walked away. Apparently the guy didn't like the fact that my husband walked away because days later we still had no fresh towels, no replaced toilet paper (we had to go to the store to purchase our own), and the room hadn't been cleaned. Outside of that they never checked on us or anything. A couple days later as I'm packing the car to leave he approaches my husband in a SUPER confrontational manner and tells him that he and all of his co-workers need to leave the motel and to have a nice life (incredibly unprofessional). We really needed towels to bathe ourselves and our children, so I made the not so wise decision to go ask for some fresh towels (since his issue wasn't with me - or so I thought). When I walked in and politely asked for towels I was greeted with aggression, hostility, disrespect, and anything but "warm and friendly" (as their website advertises). He proceeds to raise his voice at me and say, "SHOULDN'T YOU BE PACKING TO LEAVE?" I told him that he asked us to be out by check out time the following morning, and so we will be out by then but in the meantime we'd appreciate some fresh towels since they hadn't been replaced in days. He goes on a rant, pointing his disgusting finger in my face, telling me that "us people" are sneaky and unethical for not telling him we were coming to visit. I tried to calmly tell him that had we have known he wanted us to do that we would have notified him immediately, but seeing as we've never been obligated to do that we didn't realize it would be an issue. The keyword in this is TRIED - he immediately cut me off to continue on about how we are deceitful and how we didn't come to talk to him, and asking for the towels is the first time I've come to have a conversation with him - this went on for about 15 minutes. I made EVERY attempt at letting him know that our intentions were not what he made of them, and even tried to apologize (why I should be apologizing as a guest being verbally abused is still a mystery to me), but he kept speaking over me and interrupting me. After getting fed up I eventually told him that I didn't know how he felt okay speaking to a woman in the way that he was, and also told him he must be incredibly miserable and unhappy with his life if it's such a major issue that a guest doesn't come and converse with him. He then told me, "go ahead and go back to your room and wait for those towels." I knew we wouldn't be getting fresh towels, so I told him to forget it and I walked out. I've never been treated like this at ANY hotel (and I travel very often since my husband works all over the place). I would NEVER recommend this poor excuse of a business to ANYONE. Outside of this unprofessional and disrespectful demeanor - the rooms are disgusting. Walking on the carpet without shoes is asking to catch a disease (parts of the carpets are shredded and torn up), there are ants and cob webs all over the place, holes in the screens, sticky cabinet doors, holes and rips in the sheets, stains on the pillow cases, a greasy substance on the curtains, sticky floors where there is no carpet, AC units that don't work, towels and cloths that have an unpleasant odor to them and are rougher than sand paper, terrible Wi-Fi, and outlets that don't work. If you are searching for a hotel to actually enjoy your stay and be treated as a guest should, Edgewater Inn or Maple Leaf Motel is where you should stay. Their customer service and access to the river is WAY better (BY FAR). I have no idea how Royal Coachman is still in business. read more

major theft during my stay... robber maid!!!!! who is still some how employed!! not joking be careful and watch out for the 18 year old maid stealing underwear, dirty underwear, and all of my other clothing. im serious... i came back to town a week later to find they sill have the young thief maid still has a job!!!!!! after robbing me of all of my personal belongings and she literally went through my suit case and helped herself to all of my clothing.... alll of it!!!!!!!!!!!!! if this interests you, read on.... not to mention the "property managers did nothing to make it rite and rejected my request for my money back. not to mention i paid 750 cash for the entire month for them to let some young 18 year old clean my room un supervised. im not kidding you guys... i left with half the clothes i came with. the worst experience i have ever had. the rooms are good, but the carelessness of the management was astounding... carly... the female manager ignored me the entire stay and never again once asked if i was ok or if i needed anything. her husband was kind but that's about it i regret not calling the police. so i figure public slaying is better. i was robbed.. and they gave me a total of 170 back out of the 1000 dollar loss i experienced. im still realizing how much there staff stole. and to find out from a business near theirs that they still have those employees it just shows the lack of customer service and protection against theft in broad day light. shame on them.... i never leave reviews but i figured id save the next victim!! read more

WORST motel I have ever stayed at. The quaint, rustic feel was quickly replaced with disgust. There were ANT INFESTATIONS in almost every room. The TOILETS and SHOWER looked like they had NOT BEEN CLEANED in MONTHS and the air conditioner sounded like a jumbo jet taking off in the room. And it didn't even cool the room down! The maids DID NOT CLEAN OUR ROOM or even ask if we would like more towels for the last three days we were there. When we finally approached the GRUMPY OWNER, he proceeded to be RUDE and UNETHICAL and tell us that "we could go back to our room and just sit there" while he looked for some. Needless to say, we never received any towels. I have never been treated so DISRESPECTED in my life and I live most of my life in hotels for work. I have never given a one star review before but this place is MOST DEFINITELY a one star establishment. Really sweet older motor court with cabins. Stayed in rustic knotty pine cabin in the back right on the river, with kitchenette and deck. Nothing fancy but perfectly adequate. Easy steps down to the river and do a little fishing too. Canadian geese flew low on the river squawking as they went by. Grassy area with tables and chairs, and flower gardens nicely done. I loved the place. Diner next door (easy walk) is cool too, river view, wth a rock and roll theme, bar and decent food. What more do you need? read more

As the review on 6/12/17 stated, this place should get 0 stars because of the insane owner. We also had a miserable confrontation with the owner about an extended 1/2 hour check out time. The morning of check out, I went to the office and the owner greeted me. I requested an additional one half hour check out until 11:30 am because my wife was feeling ill. He said no problem, but please check with one of the maids. So I proceeded to talk with a maid and she said no problem. At 11:15 the owner calls the phone in our room and asks why we are still in the room and not out. I recalled my conversation with him and told him the maid had said no problem. He was very angry on the phone. So, we started hurriedly packing our things to exit when all of a sudden he is banging on our door and in full vein popping anger swearing and yelling at us to get the fuck out of this room right now. He was in a full insane rant. He stood outside the room glaring at us the whole time we were packing the car and belittling us verbally. Every time I tried to talk sanely to him, he just got madder. Please do not ever stay in this motel until they change owners. Worst motel experience we've ever had. read more

This was our second time to stay here in room 19. It has a balcony that overlooks the river, and is a nice place to rest while watching the river and rafters go by. The first time we stayed it was okay, but this second time had quite a few problems. First, the good; the river naturally, and the grass area is a nice place to sit. Now for the not so good; the "high-speed Wi-Fi" is actually no-speed Wi-Fi as we could not get either the Wi-Fi or the LAN line to connect. At first they assumed it was our (one almost brand new and one several years old laptops) computers, but it was actually something to do with their router-in short they need a new one. Apparently all their residents are connected-but we never could. Maybe because all the residents are connected and it only has so much space, I'm not sure, but it was a pain. So they told us to go to the grassy area and connect to some link-sys Wi-Fi. We did, it was someone nearby who didn't have it secured, but it was VERY slow, to the point that it wouldn't load some pages at all. But it was better than nothing I suppose. However, when you advertise high speed Wi-Fi, you'd better deliver it. As it was, we had basically no internet for a week. I used my cell phone hot spot when necessary, but it too was quite slow due to the location, plus I didn't want to use up all my data. Second, they have quite a few long term residents who don't take great care of their places and outside areas-including an old car parked out front that was there last time we were here and hasn't been registered in years. They also have sheets in their windows instead of curtains. Now for our room. The balcony is sagging quite a bit and really needs to be re-built. My husband looked at the support boards underneath and one of them isn't even anchored to anything! The floorboards are getting old in many places and the supports under those boards are too far apart and it's kind of scary to walk on. One of them is cracking badly and really needs to be replaced before someone steps on it and falls when it finally breaks. There were also small ants running along a couple of the boards all day. The first or second night, there was a black wall of large ants running along the top rail next to the trees...yuck! Since we'd already had ants in the kitchen area, and they gave us some sticky trap that the ants ignored, we went and bought some ant spray ourselves and used it. That kept them off the railing the rest of the week, but they still ran along the same two floorboards the entire week. And it kept them out of the kitchen also. We wanted some ice, so I went to fill the ice trays in the freezer....there were none! I looked for them and couldn't find any. Asking the manager, she told my husband something about if they provide them they are providing food service so no longer provide them..... brother..... So I told him we could just use their ice machine and get some ice. Guess what-no ice machine either for the same lame reason. (We both commented that it probably broke and was too expensive to replace) So we went to the store and bought some. That evening I was cooking dinner and needed a hot pad. Guess what? No hot pads! Asking the manger we were told they got old and were tossed. Okay.........but stores sell new ones quite cheaply and they are necessary to have if you don't want your guests to get burned.........All in all, we weren't happy this time and won't be coming back. Sorry, but it really needs to be kept up better even though your prices are pretty darn reasonable. Luckily the next place we stayed was a wonderful place and the owners really know what it means to serve customers. I'll be writing a great review of that place shortly. read more
