While receiving a blood draw, I observed multiple patients' private medical information openly visible on an unattended computer workstation, including names, ages, diagnoses, and sensitive health conditions. I also saw my own medical information displayed in plain view. This raised serious concerns for me regarding patient privacy and HIPAA protections. After reporting these concerns and repeatedly requesting to speak with the charge nurse, Dominica, I was unable to speak with her. Shortly afterward, I experienced what felt like retaliatory treatment. My husband, who was attempting to join me in my treatment room as my support person and medical advocate, was allegedly told he needed "security clearance" before being allowed back. We were also told I needed to speak with staff about why I was there before he could enter my room, despite Rush's publicly available visitor policy stating adult emergency department patients may have one visitor at bedside. During this interaction, my husband was approached aggressively by Security Supervisor Schmidt, and police were called regarding the situation. A unit director later approached me and accused me of recording her conversation. I immediately showed her my phone and explained that I was drafting an email to Patient Relations regarding my concerns. As a pregnant patient already dealing with elevated blood pressure and medical concerns, this experience left me feeling humiliated, unsafe, and unsupported. Instead of addressing the privacy concerns professionally, I felt dismissed and treated differently after speaking up. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage individuals to carefully consider whether they feel comfortable trusting this facility with their medical care and private information.

No matter the time or situation, whenever I called, Kira was there prompt, attentive, and fully committed to helping me. She didn't just do her job she cared. She made sure I was comfortable, supported, and never alone in moments when I needed reassurance the most. Kira represents the very best of what healthcare should be. Her kindness, responsiveness, and unwavering support deserve recognition and deep appreciation. I want to be very honest with this review of Loyola University Medical Center…read more We arrived on Easter Sunday night after being transferred from another hospital, and I was truly grateful we made it. The ICU staff on the 2nd floor were exceptional--kind, professional, and attentive. They consistently checked on us and treated both patients and family with care and respect during a very difficult time. However, after a few days, we were moved to the 3rd floor, and the experience changed significantly. During overnight hours--around 2 AM--the environment has been surprisingly loud. I heard staff using profanity, watching videos or news on their phones at high volume, and openly complaining about long shifts. I understand healthcare is demanding, but this is a hospital setting, and patients (and their families) can hear everything. My relative is here receiving end-of-life care, so I stay overnight. At one point, a nurse questioned my presence rather abruptly before knowing the situation. To her credit, she apologized once she understood, but in moments like these, a little more compassion upfront goes a long way. One of the nurse was rude and jist keep using profanity and stated this is who she is. Wow, Loyola use to have professional nursing staff, what happened? I also noticed interactions where staff spoke to patients in a very casual, sometimes inappropriate tone. Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned, but professionalism matters--especially in a place where people are vulnerable, grieving, and trying to find peace. My takeaway: There is clearly a strong, compassionate team here--as seen in the ICU--but consistency matters. Professionalism, awareness, and respect should be maintained across all floors, especially during overnight hours. Hospitals should feel calm and supportive, not loud or chaotic. Patients and families deserve that--especially during life's most difficult moments. I will give a 4 star due to our first encounter here and the kindness nurses such as Nicole and Quand and Jordan. Very kind d and attentive. And I just heard 2 nurses use profanity to another nurse. I am sincerely flabbergasted that they speak like this so openly and there are patients present in their rooms. The level of unprofessionalism is amazing, and i am really saddened by this as this hospital was once top hospital. Being part of the joint commission will definitely reflect not only my review, but how I move forward. This is really upsetting me.

Today, my mother called the office because my grandma urgently needed to be seen due to her condition. Instead of being helped, she was spoken to extremely rudely by Dr. Barnes' male nurse, Joe (who conveniently didn't provide his last name). He was cocky, disrespectful, raised his voice, and acted completely unprofessional and sarcastic throughout the call. He told my mom to "just take her to the ER" -- even after she explained that my grandma can't sit upright, let alone wait for hours at an ER. Then, to make matters worse, he lied in the medical notes, falsely claiming my mom was being aggressive on the phone -- a complete fabrication. She simply advocated for her dying mother and asked why she wasn't being taken seriously. This nurse clearly lacks empathy, and rather than offering help, he escalated the situation and deflected blame, saying things like: "The doctor sees 5,000 patients. Take her to the ER." ...as if that justifies refusing care. Bottom line: Patients deserve better -- especially terminal ones. This isn't how you treat families fighting for their loved ones' care. Joe should not be in a position of care. He's the reason people lose faith in healthcare professionals.
