Absolutely extraordinary time camping at Riverbend Campground near Nisqually River last week! Utterly beautiful, tent sites right on bank of river, semi private, each site has its own potty hut, (very clean!) and the river is beautiful. Can fish from bank, watched a guy catch a beautiful salmon right out in middle of river! Had small dog, they are allowed on leash, he had a blast! There is a nice market up the road for incidentals. All in all, this is a fantastic tenting campsite! Staff at the registration office are marvelous and super friendly! Those two girls are simply spectacular! We want to live here now, lol! read more

Interesting mixed use campground that resembles a small village or neighborhood of modular homes and RV spaces. There are a large number of residences here. In fact it is primarily modular homes out front so that it doesn't resemble a campground until you venture beyond the front gate. They have a gate code for guests. The river access is rough shoreline with weeds, rough gravel, and mud. They have gravel and silt from the nearby concrete plant settled on shore and in the river. When you step into the river, the clear water becomes cloudy. Not safe in my opinion. There are porta potties all over the park. Also there are bathhouses with plumbing for toilets and showers. But beware the bathroom in the back was closed due to vandalism. A laundry is onsite with only four old washers and dryers. Bring your own quarters folks because the office has few quarters and they literally shrug their shoulders and stare at you with a gaping grin when they cannot help give you change to do laundry. They do have some nice manicured lawns and a playground to round it out. Sites are roomy but are a mixed bag of pull through sites up front and back in sites with preferred short term sites up front by amenities. Towards the back, the sites are mostly residences with a newly opened area for guests. This place is big so you may need to drive to use all amenities if are located in back. The tent area is rustic down by the river edge in back. Take note: and only porta-potties back by the river. People come to party on weekends so it can be noisy all night. We heard voices loudly echoing through the woods through the night on weekends well into 5am. It doesn't seem like anyone enforces quiet hours. On that note, the railroad nearby is very active with trains blasting horns each and every time they pass. The trains are going 24/7 on no exact schedule throughout the night. I've noted times such as 12:45am, 2am, and 3:30am. Oh and there are huge helicopters that fly over. It sounds like some patrol but then they must be military since they have the roar of a combat copter and seem to fly in so low you'd think they'd land. The ground shook from the low flight pattern. This happened late during 2 nights that we were here. If you are a light sleeper then good luck. I'm a super solid sleeper and even I was woken by the noise. We were there for five nights in an RV and the visit was semi ok but we would never return. Kinda creepy vibe in the back where we were located in the 900 spaces. My dog who sleeps like bricks, woke up one night and begged to go out, he howled when he got outside. Not sure what he sensed but it was the creepiest feeling. The forest/tent camping mix with the long term RV residents back here is weird. It's forest that looks like it's seen it's share of traffic. And it's not the friendly campground vibe. People in residence here keep to themselves (almost hermits) and it seems like the vacationers are loud and out of place. Finally, the location is remote but is easy enough to access Olympia area to city of Seattle. The last warning, the back roads in the area outside of this campground have extreme traffic congestion at times with backups for miles. It took me 35 minutes to travel 4 miles back to this campground on the country roads leading here on a Sunday!!! read more

We moved in end of March 2021 and stayed there for 3 months. The staff was pleasant and laid back. We needed a spot for an assignment since I was a traveling healthcare worker and they were very accommodating. We stayed right outside the gate so we didn't really interact with a lot of the other guests. Even though our site viewed a lot of traffic from guests coming and going, we still felt secluded and felt we had plenty of privacy. We utilized the laundry room, the pet area and they provided lots of firewood for sale. We didn't fish on the river but the area is beautiful. read more

Our group stayed at the Riverbend Campground on the weekend of August 3rd to the 5th in campsite F7. The campground has the potential to be such a wonderful place to stay. Below is our review based on our experience: Pros: 1. Beautifully set on the Nisqually River 2. River is calm enough for smaller children (with adult supervision) 3. Decently sized campsites 4. Firewood and ice available for purchase at the front desk 5. On site security Cons: 1. Bathrooms: They have Porta-potties on site (at almost every campsite), but they only clean/empty them once a week. When we went to use them (I tried multiple to see if they were all bad) the human waste was so high it was almost reaching the toilet seat. It was incredibly disgusting. They need to clean them BEFORE the weekend, not after the weekend and preferably more than once a week. Also, the "real" bathrooms were absolutely disgusting, not cleaned on a regular basis...toilets were overflowing with feces. Also, there were spider webs and spiders crawling around everywhere. Yes, I get that we are in the wilderness, but when you offer a bathroom in a structure it should look like it gets cleaned at least once a day. The showers were not even something I would ever recommend anyone using. 2. Rude people: The teenagers staying in the campsite next to ours were extremely rude and obnoxious. Apparently their parents/adult figures stayed further away from them in a different site and let the teenagers run wild. They were up all night playing loud music and partying (past 4am). The campground has rules that no one should be playing music or being loud after 10pm. Most everyone else around was affected by these people. I had to call security multiple times because I just could not sleep. Security should be doing checks throughout the night and should be more vigilant to ensure people are following campground rules. 3. Train noise: I live in the area and the train doesn't bother me much, but the campground is right next to the train tracks. It seems to come by quite frequently. We stayed two nights and we had the train whistle pattern down by the end of the first day, lol. It doesn't bother me and can be potentially soothing for some people. Just know that it is pretty loud so if you are a light sleeper this may disrupt your sleep. 4. Front Desk: Friendly enough, but didn't seem to be able to make a difference with owners. Apparently the staff shares the complaints with the owners, but nothing changes. Also, no one asked how our stay was, we just had to come out and tell them. 5. Litter: The campground doesn't seem to pickup the litter left behind by people along the river. The teenagers in the campsite F6 had a fire pit (which isn't allowed) and had scattered garbage all along the river during their overnight parties. It was so sad to wake up to this. Unless things change we won't be back. It was not fun to go the whole weekend without a good night's sleep. I think if security was doing more patrolling throughout the night and the bathrooms were emptied more often it would have made a world of difference. This campground was just right for our family camping trip. Although the sites we reserved were dirt/sandy sites , our children had a blast. We enjoyed the river and the spacious sites. The customer service was great and reservations, check -in and checkout was a breeze. Only one of the restrooms with the showers was available and all the way to the front near the office. The other one was closed due to vandalism. There are honey buckets in close proximity to each site, and they aren't that bad. If they were messy, it's people trashing them with beer cans and tissue. It was nice. Our site was perfect and the rangers weren't bothering us much. The only downside is the check out is at 11 am and strictly in-forced. Seems a little early for camping... most places are at 1 or at least 12. I went ahead and stayed longer so I could take my time packing up and enjoying our last morning but I was charged 50$. The river has a strong current in a lot of areas. I didn't find an actual swim hole but adults could float the river possibly and I seen people with kayaks in there. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. MY RV TIRES WERE PUNCHERD HERE & THEIR DUMP SITE HAS TWO INCHES OF STANDING FECES. Worse place ever. Faulty and damaging speed bumps all over the place with some speed bumps made of hard rubber shoddily installed and maintained such that the speed bumps steel bolts fasteners are protruding upwards puncturing our two of RV tires! It is not apparent that the bolts are protruding tell you wake-up with your low tire pressure illuminated, and you closely examine their speed bumps after the fact to see the cause. Their dump site had two inches of standing feces with flies and mosquitoes touching your skin. We have reported this place to the Washington State Health Department. Despite their copious litany of campsite rules, apparent locked gate security and cameras, the place does not follow basic hygienic standards and cares about safeguarding the property, i.e. tires, of their patrons. The staff is apathetic, clueless, and uncaring. read more

Spent four nights at Riverbend in mid-October, and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Riverbend is definitely off the beaten path, so you will want to arrive before dark. Park is a mix of short term and long term guests, and is very quiet and serene. Dakota, at the front office, was cheerful and helpful with checking us in and answering questions about local stuff. I believe they may have some full hook up site, but we were down by the river and only had electric and water. They do have an on site dump station which was easily accessible. If you are looking for a peaceful, family oriented RV park, Riverbend will exceed your needs. I will definitely return to Riverbend when visiting friends in the area. read more

This is a really great campground. The tent sites seem more private than others. The trees provide great shade in the summer. If you bring inflatables you can float down the river. My group was pretty big and we stayed up late and were pretty loud. No one came by and threw a fit about it. One complaint I have is that I really think there needs to have those permanent grills. I got a campground site beside the river and when I asked why there were so many available and none by the river, the girl at the front desk said that parents are scared their kids might go in. This rating and review is more for an individual and management support regarding our racial encounter with an employee. My wife and I always have a great time at Riverbend...until this trip. (26 years for her, 9 years us together with additional friends and family invited and recommended to this camp ground.) We didn't know they changed site numbers so when we got there, we didnt get the site we intended. However, the site we ended up with instead of our usual still worked out for us. (Most all the sites are beautiful and they're making many upgrades!) Check out is 12pm, we were out of our cleaned up site at that time. My wife wanted to show me where she used to hang out on the river as far back as 26 years ago so we drove down the beaten path. We were down there for about 10 minutes, even picked up other peoples garbage while admiring mother nature. ***I heard something and turned around to see an old, racist individual (refuse to call him a man) verbally attacking my black wife. "Weren't you told check out is at 12, n***er?" I started walking over saying calmly at first, "whoa, whoa! No need to be disrespectful! We'll leave. We thought we had to be out of our site by 12 and not necessarily out of the campground" He aggressively squaked, "yeah, you'll leave! You need to go, now!"*** I politely asked for his name. He said I didn't need to know. This now pissed me off. So I verbally stated his description and told him I'd be giving it to the owner or manager. He laughed with evil in his voice and said he is the owner and drove away on his John Deer. We then stopped at the office to let them know what we just experienced and asked for someone on the management team. The guy we approached said he's a manager. We started to describe our encounter and quickly said he's the one to have the other guys come tell us to leave. My wife said that a simple, "time to go" or even " you need to leave" would have been just fine but the extra words and aggression wasn't called for. This "manager" first, barely said sorry then said, "he shouldn't have said that. I'll talk to him." He really didn't seem to care, there was no sympathy or customer service care. That's when I got upset with this guy, he seemingly tried to just brush us off to get us out of there. I started butting in to really make sure he understood how derogatory and singled out we felt. We still got the same simple response from the guy in the office. My wife interjected and said we'll be doing a review online and I started coupling the first racist fellow to this one and told my wife he doesn't care, we're wasting our time, he feels the same way. Only then is when he started talking anything besides "sorry". He said, "I can't believe he said that. I'm really sorry. He shouldn't have said that. I'll need to report him.." I had to walk away because I read right through him. My wife entertained the conversation and asked, "hopefully my kind is welcome back and we can be confortable next time we come?" ... I had to laugh. This manager said his son in law and another relative were black. I yelled from the car that was not his choice but his childs choice. The guy told my wife of course she's welcome back. I scoffed. End of encounter. Wife got in car and we drove off. The racial slur came from a skinny old white man (mid 60s?), about 5' 6" (wouldn't get off his John Deer) with all missing front teeth, balding grey hair and sporting a Nisqually Bar and Grill t-shirt with a bad attitude to boot. ..because of this ONE experience - I'm not sure we'll be back.. read more

We chose Riverbend Campground as our destination for our first stop on a 2 year tour. The facility was clean and well maintained. Check in was easy and prompt, the community gated and roads/sites well marked. Full 50amp hookups and a 24 hour laundry were a highlight. The kids had a new playground to stay entertained and lots of kids & families. The River access was easy and the grounds set in a beautiful wooded area. The train passing in the distance helped set a rustic old world feel. Keep up the great work and we will be back soon. Okay so this is a beautiful location for a beautiful Campground and it's pretty well taken care of and it's up against of river here's the caveat aside from not having enough restrooms and showers there was a train track that goes directly through the campground about every half hour. I would rate this park as no stars if I could. My group stayed there 3 nights. The first problem was the check-in time of 2 pm and check-out by 11 am. We all arrived a bit earlier than 2 pm and were given the option of returning after 2 pm or paying $21.60 for an early check-in. This was on top of the $70 a night for a back-in site with no sewer hook-up. Our sites had no grass or any other kind of maintenance. The unpaved road got a lot of traffic with plenty of dust. Swarms of yellow jackets prevented us from enjoying the outdoors. There were no trash cans but plenty of porta potties. The giant dumpster was far away. You had to heave your trash bag over the 8 foot walls to get it in. The sewer dump was next to it on uneven ground (I have never been to a park where they provided ramps to try to get your rig level). The many permanent residents were unfriendly. No one in my group is ever going to return to this park. read more

This park had a great campsite that we were in F15, very large and water front. We brought our inner tubes and that was perfect even for fishing! The picnic table was in good condition. Port a potties all over. However the closest bathroom lacked! They did not clean it the whole time we were there! There are numbers posted to call and I did. The man answered and asked which one I was in. I let him know I didn't know and it was the closed to site F15. He then said yeah that's the worse one... I said okay well the garbage in it hasn't been cleaned the whole time and the toilets are flooded. He said they cleaned them every day and I told him no that I have been here all weeks and the same toilet has the same paper in it and the same garage is now so full it's all over the ground! He said were busy!!! It is pretty sad as the site was so nice and the office staff seemed nice but come on please be clean! All I wanted to do was a quick drive through there. If I can't do a quick drive through to see if I like the campground. We live in Tacoma and have gone camping here multiple times every Summer for the last 7 years. They have plenty of space and if you reserve early enough you get a spot on the river which is so fun. Even if you can't get a camp spot on the river any spot you get is easy to get to the river from. Now that my kids are older we make further trips fro camping but if you want max time spent camping instead of driving this is the spot! The prices are reasonable and the staff can be great or grumpy depending on the day but isn't that how all of us humans are? We love camping at Riverbend and have shared this spot with multiple sets of friends and they all love it too! read more

Trains. Loud trains passing ALL night long blowing their whistles. Helicopters. Loud helicopters passing over the park until I finally passed out at 2am. No WiFi password left in the after-hours check-in paperwork. Not happy about that considering I needed it to work. The river that we walked down to was kinda cool, however there was an iridescent sheen (not oil but some other chemical for sure) all over the coastline rocks. It could be pollution from the industrial factory we passed just a mile away. Either way, not a place I would stay again. I literally paid $43 to plug into an electrical outlet. This is an unexpected find, nestled between trees with access to the Nisqually River for boating and fishing. The climate was great during our mid-August visit. The facilities are clean and the staff were accommodating and friendly. On arrival, they informed us that the salmon were running and the best bait to use (fish eggs). The RV spaces are clean and well maintained with full hookup options. There are three sections to the park: 1) long term RV tenants, 2) short term RV tenants (only staying a few days), and 3) tent sites. The long term tenant area is very well maintained and there is adequate spacing between all sites. We enjoyed the proximity to Seattle for sight seeing. They also had free Wifi and decent cell phone reception. The registration area has a small store and offers the ability to purchase firewood. read more

Never in my life have I been disrespected as much as this morning from the management at river bend nisqually camp ground. My friend Jasmine Seki called yesterday to reserve a camp site for two people with two cars. When I arrived first at the camp ground office it was closed and our mirror hangers were in a drop box. There was only one. I thought that maybe we just needed one because they knew there were two people already because it was already confirmed. We packed up this morning and walked to the river. It was ten minutes till 12 when we had to leave so we walked up to our cars. There was a man looking in jasmines truck. She yelled out and said that was her truck and he said he was just looking for her pass and she said oh! And I said I have it in my car. They said we both need one and need to get out. I said they only gave us one. We went to the office to complain about the man that was extremely rude to us and talked to a woman at the desk. She said that the managers are in a meeting atm. Then a man walked in without a mask and asked very confrontational what was going on. We described the whole situation from start to finish as he interrupted us the whole time. He said that the man was doing his job and he will fire the woman if we aren't lying but he kept accusing us of lying. He wouldn't take our complaint. Didn't believe us. Disrespected us. YELLED AT US WITHOUT A MASK. Don't camp there. Jasmine was racially profiled. They treated her like less. I was profiled because I'm a female. If that was or wasn't the case that man needs to be fired and their business either needs to be shut down or changed. This is not ok. They wouldn't take our complaint. Jasmine even before complaining paid for the extra car that was accidentally not paid for. We only came to complain about a rude man and instead we were profiled, yelled at, accused of lying, even threatened to be arrested, and he just wanted to fire a woman and not educate and write up a man. I have to say this isn't the worst place. When checking in the girl took my $$ handed me a map and mirror tag with my campsite # on it and sent me on my way. Never told me how to get to my spot or what amenities came with my weeks stay or anything. While driving through the park there was no directional signs or signs that said what numbered sites were in which direction when you came to intersections. As we were driving through I noticed how tight it was going to be to get pulled into my spot, thank goodness we were in a spot with an open island across from us. There are more permanent long term residents here then campers. The restrooms were clean but I did hear 7 trains go by from 8 PM to 4 AM. read more

I have only written a couple of reviews in my life but after the amount of stress and disappointments caused by our experience here, i decided to say something. My Friends and I expected this camp to be the highlight of the trip but nope. During the check in process the manager named Rhonda was so rude, she made racist comments since most of the group were Asians and we feel like we were unwelcome around this campground. Also, privacy isn't a thing here, they have cameras set up everywhere. We have camped a lot and so far this is the only camp site we've been where people are so unprofessional when dealing with their guests. We were just passing by and decided to stay here. It's a clean and nice area. There is a playground just in case you have kids. I think this place is like a 3.5 Star, because there is a train very close to the RV Park. It gets kinda annoying when you are trying to sleep. Also the showers are not free like other RV parks that I have stayed at. They are coin operated. You must pay to take a shower. Nice area and quiet ( besides the train) but not sure if I would stay there again... because of the train... read more

For tent camping, you get a pad of dirt and a pile of rocks for $30 per night! No table for cooking or eating and no real fire pit (literally a pile of rocks that you use to make a fire ring). We tent camp a LOT and the site quality is nowhere near the price. It's the same amenities as dispersed wilderness camping but I had to pay, a lot. Riverbend is a glorified trailer park pretending to be a campground with permanent trailers and even houses throughout the property and they put tents on the outskirts investing nothing in making them appealing or functional. Did I mention that you don't even get a picnic table for $30? I also have to add that there is an extra charge for use of the showers. So, $30 gets you....nothing. read more

Nice, pleasant, pretty, well kept up, clean, in a tall tree environment. Very enjoyable stay. There is a train that passes frequently but did not hear it once during the night. The big drawback is the traffic that one encounters when trying to get to the freeway to go into town for supplies. It can be bumper to bumper for over three miles with no way to turn around. Also very inconvenient without sewer and have to pack up to go to the dump station. Make sure to take enough supplies to last your stay and make sure you depart extra early. read more

I would like to start by saying that the grounds are nice and if you are a fisherperson this would probably be a great place for you. You might ask why then would I give them only one star in my review. Here you go.... 1) Speed limit in the park is a joke, it is supposed to be 10 MPH but people are going double and triple that. Small children and pets are not safe here! 2) The park is geared towards permanent residents not short term guests. There are only 4 short term sites with full hookups and they all are directly across from a very loud children's playground and right next to the main road (that everyone speeds down). I do mean right next to it, the end our our rig was within 2 feet of the road. 3) There are trains running right by the campground constantly day and night. 4) If you want to sleep don't plan on it here. In addition to the trains, and fishermen speeding past your rig starting about 5am. There are roosters that start in well before dawn. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but forefitted our 2nd night (because they have an absolute no return policy no matter how bad your stay is)!!
