We booked this hotel through booking.com and thankfully that site provided updated reviews and pictures, otherwise Yelp would've scared us off. Compared to other lodging near the downtown Gatlinburg strip, River Edge offered a slightly cheaper room plus free parking (for one vehicle) and grab-and-go breakfast. Location: Perfect spot! River Rd sits one street back and runs parallel to the strip. You avoid the heavy traffic and sounds. It also puts you close to a few restaurants that should be on your list. For reference, this spot is very close to Ober Gatlinburg. The only downside is not being extremely close to a trolley line. Check-in: Two ladies greeted me right away, got me checked in and answered some initial questions about the area. They also made sure I understood how to reach someone afterhours. Even more impressive, I got a phone call during our trip there (from Jessie). He confirmed our arrival and asked if we had questions about directions. Room: The rooms have been renovated recently and it shows. We had 2 queen size beds and a view of the pool. I liked that we were in the 3rd level and would've been less happy on the 1st level near the parked cars. The beds and pillows were comfy - I slept well each night and this hardly happens for me at hotels. The room had a working fireplace, drawers for clothes, large closet, sink outside the bathroom area and a full bathroom. The decor was simple but modern, very nice. My husband remarked how clean the room always smelled when we came back to the hotel, and housekeeping kept us stocked on towels, etc. I especially appreciated the make up wipes. Bathroom: The bathroom is the only area that still showed signs of its former self. The tub wasn't new and needed to be cleaned better on the bottom. Caulking wasn't filled in completely. A soap dish is needed, and a towel bar. Just little things that didn't quote get finished compared to the main room. I liked having an extra sink area especially with a family of 4 getting ready. Balcony: Each room has a small balcony. Our patio furniture was fairly new - 2 chairs and a table for watching the pool or enjoying morning coffee. Breakfast: We appreciated the ease of breakfast, which is available 8-10 am. This may be late for some but worked for us. Most can be grabbed and taken to the room but a few tables are available. The kids were happy to eat the muffins, honey buns, danishes, small bagels and cheese omelets. I appreciated the cereal bowls and fruit. A small refrigerator held milk and juice. The coffee was disappointing and I tossed every cup. The room did have a Kuerig and I recommend packing your own. It was also nice to see the hotel clerk come by often to wipe down tables and refill the snacks. Pool: The pool offers plenty of space to hang out with the kids. It was open in October, which the website noted as closed. We didn't come prepped with swim gear so my oldest missed out bc he didn't pack shorts either. It's not heated so I'm sure it'll close soon as the weather turns. Towels are available in the lobby. Overall, a great experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend River Edge or return. Check out these nearby restaurants: Crockett's, Big Daddy's Pizzeria, Bennett's BBQ, Calhoun's and the sandwich shop within Ober Gatlinburg. Luigi's also delivers pizza until 2 am.

Upon arrival and entering front desk/ lobby, I was nervous on the quality and cleanliness of the property and rooms. It wasn't dirty , just out dated and drab. The tiny breakfast area is also located there and consists of a couple tables and they only have grab and go items, which was very misleading on their web page. I assumed it would be at least more than coffee and pastries. The room doors are exterior entrances and you need to walk around corner of hotel to the elevator. So far, it is very noticeable that this is a older building. The doors have the new style card reader but the door itself is old with only a basic deadbolt lock. Upon entering the room, my fears were squashed ! The owners have obviously put money into updating the rooms. Gorgeous laminate flooring with a area rug around the bed, a nice very comfortable bed with new sheets and pillows, an updated bathroom a HUGE TV and nice patio chairs on the private balcony. It has basic amenities, small fridge, micro and Kuerig coffee maker. Rooms also have a gas fire place. A very nice feature for when it's cold and snowy. The property itself is kept clean and well maintained. Parking is limited , so reserve a spot when booking. We're here for 3 nights, it's right off the main drag so no need for finding parking spots on a daily basis. Very happy and would book here again.

We were greeted by one of the managers when we arrived who made us feel welcome. While there is not daily housekeeping, we had more than enough towels (and coffee pods!) for our three night stay. There was a fire through this area back in 2016. There is no sign of the fire in the remaining lodge building. Off to the side, up a hill, are the foundations of former their lodge buildings and restaurant. The view to the south includes some burned trees in the distance, but I found that it didn't take away from the ambiance. Due to the fire, the does lodge have a more remote feeling due to the lack of telephone, cable, or internet. We didn't miss any of these, and we had reasonable cell phone reception. I look forward to seeing the lodge thrive again and wish the owners the best in their continued renewal.

It's unfortunate what happened with the fires back in 2016 but the business keeps on pushing through. They still have a decent amount of amenities even without the other spaces they had offered before the fires. The rooms are a decent size, especially for two people. They offer a full sized kitchen which was nice so we didn't have to eat out every night. The balcony is cute & have great views of mt leconte. The bed was comfy & everything was clean. They had plush robes in the closet which were super comfy & great to put on after a hot bath in the spa tub in the bathroom. They also maintain hiking trails right by the lodge & they had a nice set up by the creek, there was a bathroom down there & a fire pit and lots of chairs set up. The lodge is only a mile up the road from downtown & the national park entrance so it's in close proximity to alot of great things. The only issue we ran into was not enough parking but we made it work. Overall had a great experience here & would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for 5 nights and though our stay wasn't horrible, I would not bring my family back…read more I will start out saying that the front lobby and common areas were nicely decorated. A double fireplace and a beautiful Christmas tree greeted us when we arrived. The check in was easy but be warned there is a $15 dollar a day parking fee that was not included in our Expedia and wasn't disclosed. Plus a $50/ night incidental fee which adding this up is $325 that you much allocate during your stay. The room was dated and dark. Fridge did not get very cool. Microwave would not work properly. Room was clean but in the middle of the week we found a roach crawling around in the bathroom which was quite upsetting. My daughter has a rare brain disease and is immunocompromised and roaches cause serious health issues. Also roaches are nearly indestructible and can hitchhike. We could not afford to go to another hotel or I would've left. Management did not act surprised and I pushed for compensation which they said they took $200 off of our stay. They did offer to spray but my daughter cannot take fumigations with her condition. I notified Expedia and as of yesterday, nothing has been refunded. We also were overcharged for two meals which were already paid through Expedia prior to our stay. We haven't been refunded on this either. The breakfast is not free and in my humble opinion I feel it should be. Most hotels offer a free breakfast of some sort and they had this area guarded off like Fort Knox. The gentleman with the Mohawk cut was a little gruff and maybe needs some education on ADA and service dog allowances for the handicap. I saw a mother who was in a wheelchair, paraplegic with her servicedog being scolded by him when her dog was at the buffet area. As a mom of a handicapped child, I already know how difficult is to navigate disabilities out in a public area and I thought his mannerism towards her were uncalled for and "illegal." This woman was a mom who was trying to get access to food for her children and herself while being in a wheelchair with a service dog next to her. He seemed to care more about what the dog was doing and why the dog was in the buffet area. That dog is her lifeline. No excuses for him even questioning her or the dog. Please educate your staff Hilton Garden Inn on federal laws/bills. Now with that being addressed, I will say that Norma in the dining area was exceptional. She went above and beyond as well as the chef/ behind the buffet. They are amazing at their jobs and deserve recognition for it! The indoor pool was also not heated. Extremely cold and we didn't observe anyone in it during the week we stayed. This is unfortunate and families that enjoy swimming should be aware that it is basically unusable. The hot tub was nice but my child really wanted to go swimming. The hotel is within walking distance of the end of the strip and we did have great views from our window for the New Year's fireworks celebration. I just expected more from a Hilton hotel and this will not return

Oh, food options were good, literally one of the best breakfast buffets. I've been to at a hotel, however, if you got there at 8:30 or beyond, good luck in the buffet hunger games. I will add the bar staff were exceptional, and the complementary happy hour is a solid win. The challenges are that the service is actually not great for being such a young hotel. Room service was abysmal, I'll touch a picture of a "made bed". They apparently don't automatically clean the room, you have to ask them for a full clean, which is very odd considering most hotels you have to ask them to not clean the room. At the pool, there was a situation where a child threw up, I notified maintenance, who then came back and said nope, the front desk said he couldn't report it, a guest had to report it, therefore the vomit stayed for another 35 minutes, even though we wiped it as best as we could (not our child). Our toilet was broken for the duration of our six nights. Additionally, they were shortstaffed. So you could tell the front desk didn't have rotation, there weren't people walking around, checking to make sure everything was clean and ready. To be fair it could've been the fact that this was the busiest they've been all season, but as a major hotel, it feels like you should be equipped and prepared. I would also add that the trolleys were lacking, and it took us a long time to get one to be able to bring our belongings in. But still, I think three stars is fair, and hope they can up some things when we come back because we will be back, Gatlinburg was awesome!

Fantastic Stay at The Greystone Lodge on The River…read more We arrived just before midnight and were immediately impressed by the warm welcome from the front desk staff. The lady who checked us in addressed me by my full name even before I had a chance to give her my ID--such a thoughtful and personal touch. She and her colleague were friendly, welcoming, and made us feel at ease on a chilly Gatlinburg night. It was already dark when we arrived, so we didn't realize just how close we were to the Smoky Mountains, in fact we were actually on the mountains. The winding roads leading to the hotel didn't seem particularly uphill, but the location is absolutely perfect. The lodge sits right in the river in the heart of Gatlinburg, offering easy access to a wide range of attractions. Whether you're up for a cold walk in December or prefer to drive, there's plenty to explore within walking distance. The guest room was cozy, warm, and perfectly maintained. While the bathroom was a bit smaller than most hotel bathrooms, it was still functional and clean. Overall, the hotel was well-kept, with immaculate hallways and rooms, which made a great impression. The wood accents on the hallways even in the electrical panels are intentionally and add character. One of the highlights of our stay was the balcony that offered a lovely view of the river. It was such a peaceful spot to enjoy the scenery, especially with the backdrop of the mountains. Ample parking space for all guests and it looked secured, just make sure not to leave any food items in your car especially overnight to avoid hungry bears rummaging over it. If I had to offer any critique, it would be the breakfast. It wasn't extraordinary, it's not bad, but honestly, there are several great pancake houses and breakfast spots nearby--just be ready to face long line in the early morning cold! Still, with so many good options just a short walk away, it wasn't a deal-breaker for us. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would absolutely choose The Greystone Lodge in The River again. We'll surely want to visit Gatlinburg in spring or fall and still stay here. The location is unbeatable, the staff is exceptional, and the hotel is clean and well-maintained. It's definitely our top choice for lodging in Gatlinburg!
