Pastor Jonathan is amazing, the song and worship service is top notch and the church is involved in so many community affairs that it is just good to know that I am a part of something that is a part of the community. The church has such an incredible history that I am sure most people reading this are well aware of it. Coming from California though, it is pleasant to finally meet the Falwell's and to see their ministry in action. When I was in my early 20s I was a radio DJ at a Christian radio station in Santa Maria California and I remember playing Jerry Falwell Sr.'s messages every week. It was a very emotional experience to attend my first service and to go to the Falwell Memorial on the campus for the first time. If you are in Lynchburg, there really is no other place that you should attend church, especially if you only have one Sunday to experience Lynchburg at it's finest. It does not uphold what Scripture teaches about biblical marriage between one man and one woman and the teachings of Scripture on sexuality and gender as God Himself designed in the beginning and Jesus reaffirms in the New Testament (because He is God). This is not a biblical church and is false teaching and leading those within the congregation astray from what is taught in God's Word. Jesus loves us as we are but He also taught REPENTANCE and that those who truly love Him will obey Him and not want to practice what is evil. Jesus loves you, repent and believe in the LORD Jesus Christ!" This review of this assembly was called "offensive." I say this with as much love and respect as I can, if the teachings of Scripture and the historic witness of the Church Fathers such as Tertullian, Polycarp, and Augustine are considered offensive, that should cause anyone within this assembly to pause and think. The teachings handed to these early church fathers by the apostles, who themselves were taught by Christ, and the Church has consistently upheld these truths for two thousand years. Paul, Timothy, and Peter in the New Testament call out false teachers for leading people, astray from what scripture teaches and distorting truth. When Jesus is asked a question about marriage and divorce. The LORD Jesus says these words found in the Gospel of Matthew, "Haven't you read the Scriptures?" Jesus replied. "They record that from the beginning 'God made them male and female.'" And he said, "'This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.' Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together." Matthew 19:4-6. Friend, Jesus gives a clear picture that God made us either male or female, and a marriage between one man and one woman.. that is the example of marriage that He uses, He paints no other picture of marriage. As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are expected to call out evil in truth and love. I say this with all compassion and love any desire for anyone attending here to know the truth that God indeed loves you and all your broken pieces, and you can bring your sin to Him and be forgiven and made new. An assembly that cannot tolerate biblical and historical viewpoints that differ from its leadership, or that refuses to have its teachings challenged and examined in light of Scripture itself and church history, shows that its more committed to its own preferences than to the truth it claims to proclaim.

Passing through town and spotted the historical marker that is at the corner of Forest Road…read more(US-221) and Corporate Park Drive. The marker is in excellent condition and I have nothing to add to Joshua's review. The marker reads, "St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, about a mile northwest of here, was established by the Rev. Nicholas Hamner Cobbs in 1824. Cobbs, later the first Episcopal Bishop of Alabama, is credited with revitalizing that denomination in western Virginia. The St. Stephen's congregation erected its first sanctuary ca. 1825 on land that had been part of Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest tract. This building was replaced in 1844 with the present brick Greek Revival-style sanctuary on the same site. The church's cemetery, with grave markers dating to the 1840s, reflects a variety of styles of funerary art." Worth your time to check it out if you're in the area.
