My girlfriend and I went to the State Street Market and got lunch less than hour ago. She has eaten…read morethere multiple times and this was my first time. She ordered the # 17. "The Osseo" - Sliced cucumbers, marinated roasted red peppers, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato with pesto-mayo on freshly baked Sienna Bakery Artisan French sub bread. I ordered the # 8. "The Reading" - 1/4 lb. Oven roasted turkey, thin apple slices, lettuce with Dijon mustard on in-house baked wheat bread. She said her sandwich was the best that she's gotten there to date. I ate the last quarter of hers and also thought it was good. I'm a big fan of the elegant union of sweet and salty on my pallet, and was looking forward to what this sandwhich had to offer. However, I wound up being severely dissatisfied in nearly every aspect of what a sandwich is. The wheat bread was stiff, solid, dry, and crumbly. Bread is arguably the most important aspect of any sandwich, and this was where my hopes and dreams deflated before I took my first bite. I then lifted the steel veil of my sandwich, eager to see the sweet crunchy goodness lying beneath. For a moment my frustration dramatically increased because I thought the apple was absent. Come to find out, the apple was as "thin" as advertised (as thin as a quarter) and there was only one 2.5" by 3.5" slice per sandwich halve. This frugal amount of apple stood no chance in the predestined oral orgy that the Dijon ultimately dominated, all while the single leaf of Romaine (per halve) just sat and watched. The turkey was good though.
