I feel bad for the head waiter, who clearly cares and enjoys his work and is so personable. Here goes: The "Biergarten" is really just patio seating right next to one of this small town's major intersections. While it's nice to sit outside, a couple shrubs to hide the street from view would be nicer. The waitress we had did not like me. At all. Not even a little bit. Maybe I reminded her of an ex, or unbeknownst to me I accidentally kicked her puppy in a former life. In any event, as cheerful as she was to others, she was Ursula the Sea-With (yes, from "The Little Mermaid", dudes can watch it too) to me. She wasn't even all that competent. It took me a few tries to make her understand the words "Campari Soda", even after pointing to it on the menu. After some mumbled commentary, she took the order...and proceeded later to bring me a Campari Orange. When I flagged her down and mentioned that I wanted a Campari Soda, we went through the charade again, until she said that the kitchen doesn't make that. Oh-kayyyy... Things took a turn for the better when they brought out a bread basket with some garlic butter and chili oil. To paraphrase Master Yoda, the delicious was strong with these ones! I could have stolen their recipe and made a million bucks. Seriously, they should market that ish. The pizzas we ordered were much less impressive. It was remarked that they were not dissimilar to the frozen pizzas one could take home from Tengelmann. I really was hoping for much better after the bread basket they'd brought out, so I hold out for the possibility that their other dishes are much, much better. Or so I hope. Ah, yes, the head waiter...he eventually came by with a Campari Soda for me, as well as his apologies. His cheer dissipated to a certain extent the funk that had now grown to a legitimate fear of the other waitress. For the establishment's sake, I hope they re-train, re-assign, or let go of her. After we'd paid up with Ursula, he came by again to ask if we'd like some marsala. Keeping true to the back and forth/good and bad of the evening, the marsala was delicious. Seriously, this place should rebrand itself as a bread basket and marsala place. Bam, million bucks made. read more
