If you're asking those questions in any form, you're just gonna love it! You will encounter friendly people, extremely well-thought-out exhibits, beautiful grounds, and architecture (especially the plants), easy services and amenities, and exceptional presentations by extremely intelligent and well researched people. On a chilly December day, I was able to go on a private tour of the Lanier Mansion. So Cool!…read more During the "off season", this is the only local mansion open to the public. After buying my ticket at the visitors' center next door ($11 for adults), I waited for the top of the hour and was led by the tour guide over to the mansion. Note that there are steps to get into the mansion and there is a basement and three levels to view, so if you have mobility issues, this may not be the tour for you. Local banker and businessman James F D Lanier was extremely successful in the early 1800's as our state was being formed. In fact, he was so wealthy that he loaned the state $400,000 to help equip the troops of the state to help fight in the Civil War. The tour fills in a lot more details about this man, his family (11 kids with 2 wives), and the purpose of each room as you go through. I won't say I know a lot about history or about antiques, but I do enjoy seeing all the beautifully maintained furniture, the fine architectural details, and learning about key figures in our history. She was very friendly. The exhibits wind through the building with an early focus on the founding of the town. The major portions of the museum, however, are devoted to the flashier aspects that really shine of this small burg in the Midwest: the circus and laxative waters! Massive exhibits are devoted to the sulfur water that was an early cure-all which gave rise to the large spas that drove tourism to town. The most square footage is devoted to the huge, massive, enormous circus in miniature. My partner is all about miniatures and was totally engrossed in this display. And rightfully so; it is very impressive! Everything was above average for cleanliness, order, and functionality; which, if you've visited other small-town museums, you know isn't always the case. Who knew it was (the first!) site of vertebrate paleontology in the US? Interestingly, there is also a short hike through a wooded area (5-10 min) that takes you to a mini-zoo-like viewing area for a herd of Bison kept there. They were pretty lethargic on this hot summer day but cute nonetheless. It's at least worth one short visit here -- a worthy investment of ~35 mins from downtown Cincinnati, anyway.

Luckily enough, I work in a partner company and got my discount to come in for the day. Then, we had a few others that were on the access pass. I will say that Ian was awesome checking us in. I even got to hear some tips, tricks, and fun facts! While it seemed smaller to me, it was still as fun, as I remember. Even with a few new exhibits. Besides the extremely interactive children's museum, we loved how innovative the transportation museum is. This location being an old train station, made the experience even more interesting. We saw a super presentation by one of the founders of the exhibition that answered many questions about the ark and how it was designed, also giving good biblical references concerning the ark. We also saw a live play depicting a missionary who was imprisoned during World War Two. Excellent. Both the outside and the inside of the ark is amazing. So much to see and take in! It really changed my thoughts about the ark account in the Bible. We ate at the buffet restaurant. It was very crowded and when I went through there were some empty spaces. It seems they couldn't keep up with the refilling of the buffet. There was no brewed tea(!) but had a machine....subpar and it was completely out by the time we left. I don't think I would do the buffet again. There are other food options and lots of places to sit around the park. Our senior ticket was $60 and parking was $15. A very nice day for us all.

You enter from the port side and as you are walking the ramp, there are sounds of a thunderstorm. It's best to go when you aren't in a hurry because we ended up spending around 6.5 hours total there. That did include eating, letting the kids run around the playground and 2 carousel rides. The architecture itself was amazing and the in depth information and depictions were really good. We watched the video on the 3rd deck and it really gives you a lot to think about. The only downside is that while I realize there is an upkeep, I think the price is crazy.
