In a food city like Vienna, you can make a culinary tour around the world. One of the best stops to make is to eat some Brazilian street food at Rio Gostoso. Here is served up the popular roadside treat - tapiocas - from Northern Brazil. Tapioca is a ground meal from the manioc (yucca) plant which also happens to be gluten-free. You cook it on a round hot plate and it makes a flat bread that can be folded over and filled with delicious ingredients - both savory and sweet. I recently stopped in for their Brasilia tapioca which consisted of ham & cheese as well as sun-dried tomatoes, rucola, and riqueijao (a Brazilian soft cheese.) This is one tasty sandwich - especially when you add some of the Brazilian hot sauces sitting on the counter. The people who work here are very friendly and of course prepare your order right in front of you. It doesn't take long once everything hits the hot plate. And there are Brazilian beverages also available for purchase.
I'm glad Vienna has this tasty Brazilian Tapiocaria but do keep in mind - at present it's only open around lunch time. read more
