More ponderosa pines than many of the other campgrounds. Very nice, level sites. Clean vault toilets. The camp hosts are great. Mike is a character and what I like to call, casually professional, with a good sense of humor. Both excellent attributes to ensure your stay is a success. The only downside was the fishing. Unfortunately the river was high and muddy so even trying every day I failed to get a single strike. No one else fishing had any better luck so disappointed at such a bust. The saving grace was the beautiful location making it all worthwhile. Make note, there is no cell service of any kind in or around the campground. Bring Starlink.

Wow - just WOW!!!…read more Where do I begin? The meandering (and perfectly groomed) drive winding its way up to the lodge? The stunning architecture and solid feel of a finely constructed lodge with the proper scale and furnishings ... featuring leather, post & beams, and soaring granite fireplaces. A nice change from traditional NM architecture. Upon arrival, the staff pamper you starting with a warm greeting, and a sense of humor while attending to your every whim. This is an old time hunting lodge concept executed beautifully in this immaculately maintained high end structure. If you hate hunting, or taxidermy, leave your preconceived notions at home - come enjoy this luxurious retreat. It's not a spa, but the 36,000 acres of land surrounding the property are spectacular. I loved my brief visit. My guests for this impromptu NM motorcycle tour LOVED the lodge experience. In fact, all of us are "finagling" a way to come back soon, and stay longer to enjoy more of what the lodge has to offer. Cost might have been a tad-bit over $300/night ... which includes three terrific meals. A very fair price for this relaxing and high quality experience. Also, with so many activities to enjoy nearby like the train, trails and lodge activities offered, you can be as busy as you'd like to be. Today, I'm sending out personal notes today to staff with cash gratuities for each of them... That's how grateful I am for my experience... I still can feel the Glow. Note: personally, when I need to get away... I just want to hear "yes, of course, no problem!" I can promise you I only saw staff smiling, and eager to please and enhance the guests experience. They put me in the closet site because my dog couldn't walk far but I wanted him to drink from all the rivers we passed. I cannot stress how nice they were to me. The sites are level. There was a plumbing issue with the hot water so the bathrooms weren't open yet. It was peaceful and a few TV channels came in for me to watch. The price was very reasonable and I would actually love to pass through here again.

This is truly an incredible place…read more My wife and I have 5 kids and we first visited Rainbow Trout Ranch (RTR) back in 2019. We were worried that our kids would not like this type of vacation, as we are not "Horse People" and had never been to a Dude Ranch before. After the 2nd day at RTR all five of our kids told us we needed to sign up for the next year as they were having such a great time. We have now been to RTR five times and have already signed up for the summer of 2024. RTR is set in the beautiful San Juan Mountains right next to the Conejos River. The ranch backs up to the Rio Grand National Forest which provides endless opportunities for horseback riding or hiking in a gorgeous environment with no crowds. You can go the whole week without seeing anyone besides the RTR staff and guests. There is so much to do at RTR: Horseback riding, fly fishing, hiking, skeet shooting, archery, swimming, poker night, Western Dance Night, etc. What really makes this so special is the incredible staff. Everyone from the management team to the wranglers, fisherman, wait staff, maintenance staff - they are all wonderful people and have always provided an awesome environment for our family. And a week away from screens and devices makes RTR even better. The one drawback is the food is too awesome and it's easy to gain a pound or two as the meals are plentiful and delicious! The big surprise for our family after our first visit: We asked all 5 of our kids what was their favorite part of the week. They all said "Western Dance Night". They had the best time doing something they had never done before. We are not Horse People or Cowboys but one week out of the year we put on our western wear and we fit right in. Honestly I can see our family continuing with this annual weekly vacation for years to come. We love Rainbow Trout Ranch!

We…read morehad a life altering event in January and I knew the hospitality and genuine care I have experienced here would be just the thing to help our healing process. I was not wrong. Between the excellence of care by every single person there and the healing presence of the horses, our experience was everything we could have asked for and more. The genuine family atmosphere pulls you right in and cocoons you with very intentional inclusion. The 'Cowboy Way' is alive and well. The food was so well prepared and delicious! The scenery is breathtaking...and we loved our cabin with the front porch to witness all of God's Glory! We will be back again next year (maybe sooner!). We have made good friends with a few of the other visitors and staff. We look forward to seeing everyone again. Sandy Maxwell
