This was a foodies dream. Wanting a nice lunch before the eclipse, we stopped in for a slow meal…read morewith a reservation (a must!! It was completely booked). We had an incredible meal. The oysters were to die for. Our favorites were the Peruvian. Then Vietnamese spring rolls which were a wonderful palate cleanser--so refreshing! The tuna and beef tartar were also incredible (the butter sauce was so rich on the beef!), though the cured white tuna was a teensy bit fishy for our taste. For me the two best things were the pastrami (which I ordered under duress but loved so much) and the octopus with sausage, which reminded me of my favorite octopus dish in puerto Vallarta from Joe Jack's Fish Shack. This was a treat--the way fancier version of the dish. Succulent, tender, and amazing with the egg in the middle. So good! No room for dessert, but it was a perfect way to energize us for the eclipse. Thanks, Aq!

Perhaps the best restaurant in Tarragona? Reservations are necessary most days and evenings. A…read moresmall unassuming eatery back in a corner inside the walls of old Tarraco. We had reservations for three at 14:00 and was greeted walking in, our table was waiting for us. Even though the exterior is old stone Tarraco, the interior is modern, bright, comfortable and very stylist. Our servers were all professionals, kind, gracious and helpful. After explaining the menu system and ordering procedure, we went to work. We started with the fresh oysters and a variety of tapas. The oysters themselves are brilliant and works of art. I could have made a meal on these alone. They were so good, I ordered more. The Chimicurri variation, my favorite. Following with their version of Patatas Bravas partida, these are exceptional. A beautiful presentation, and the best we have had. A definite try, these layered treats are what we have found to be the best around period. Next we went with the Alcachofas, artichoke hearts with brandada, these delicious smokey morsels were another great choice. Well ptepared, beautifully presented and simply yummy. Our fourth tapa, Gambas con Pil Pil de Ajil, Prawns with garlic PilPil sauce. Another exceptional dish, more like a prawn stew. Fresh prawns with fried heads in a savory broth. Rich, flavorful and delicious. The crunchy little heads added a level of texture and flavor that made this dish a true pleasure to enjoy. Next in line, the Canelon' de Rostit XL, another sublime dish. I have had this dish before and this paticular version of it, simply brilliant. The meat stuffing so savory and flavorful, the cannelloni tender and succulent, the sauce amazing. A generous portion to share as well. Last and definitely not least, the Ventresca de Atun, another spectacular tapa. Cooked Tuna belly with sweet red peppers in a savory reduction sauce. So tender, fresh and flavorful. If you like fresh seared tuna this dish is definitely worth it! A delicate sliced serving, again enough to share. With the sweet peppers, capers and sauce. Such a wonderful dish. AQ (Ana+Quitin) is an exceptional restaurant in Tarragona, perhaps even the best. Worth the time, effort and walk to find and enjoy. All in all a wonderful, leisurely meal. A small eatery, with a few tables and chairs inside as well as out, with a heavy wood open beam ceiling and stone wall interior. We were greeted walking in and told to take a seat. We grabbed a table by the interior wall. Our servers were both professional, not overly friendly or fast but they did make sure we had what we needed. Seafood, and local produce are whats on the menu here. A concise menu with a focus on local and sustainable cuisine. Crispy local fish appetizer is where we started, small fish of various sizes lightly battered and fried crisp with head on. Crunchy little treats, like eating chips but little fishes. Very good and a nice start. Salad of mixed greens with smoked cod fish was our next tapa, a nice mixture of greens with a light dressing of evoo and tender chunks of smoked cod. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. It was light, fresh and quite tasty. Enough to share as well. Creamy rice with clams, squid and a savory red pepper sauce, was our final entree. A large cast iron pot of local seafood with tender rice, a generous portion and was more than enough between the three of us. We could not finish it all.
