Perhaps the best restaurant in Tarragona? Reservations are necessary most days and evenings. A small unassuming eatery back in a corner inside the walls of old Tarraco.
We had reservations for three at 14:00 and was greeted walking in, our table was waiting for us. Even though the exterior is old stone Tarraco, the interior is modern, bright, comfortable and very stylist.
Our servers were all professionals, kind, gracious and helpful. After explaining the menu system and ordering procedure, we went to work. We started with the fresh oysters and a variety of tapas. The oysters themselves are brilliant and works of art. I could have made a meal on these alone. They were so good, I ordered more. The Chimicurri variation, my favorite.
Following with their version of Patatas Bravas partida, these are exceptional. A beautiful presentation, and the best we have had. A definite try, these layered treats are what we have found to be the best around period.
Next we went with the Alcachofas, artichoke hearts with brandada, these delicious smokey morsels were another great choice. Well ptepared, beautifully presented and simply yummy.
Our fourth tapa, Gambas con Pil Pil de Ajil, Prawns with garlic PilPil sauce. Another exceptional dish, more like a prawn stew. Fresh prawns with fried heads in a savory broth. Rich, flavorful and delicious. The crunchy little heads added a level of texture and flavor that made this dish a true pleasure to enjoy.
Next in line, the Canelon' de Rostit XL, another sublime dish. I have had this dish before and this paticular version of it, simply brilliant. The meat stuffing so savory and flavorful, the cannelloni tender and succulent, the sauce amazing. A generous portion to share as well.
Last and definitely not least, the Ventresca de Atun, another spectacular tapa. Cooked Tuna belly with sweet red peppers in a savory reduction sauce. So tender, fresh and flavorful. If you like fresh seared tuna this dish is definitely worth it! A delicate sliced serving, again enough to share. With the sweet peppers, capers and sauce. Such a wonderful dish.
AQ (Ana+Quitin) is an exceptional restaurant in Tarragona, perhaps even the best. Worth the time, effort and walk to find and enjoy. All in all a wonderful, leisurely meal. Higly recommended
