I miss TJMAXX and such in America where I can find almost anything I need at a good price, but it also looks great. Well, my shopping "Heimweh" was lessened today when I went to the balina outlet store on Keplerplatz.. I needed a cocktail/party dress for a house concert I am singing in a few days. I found the jackpot of cocktail dress deals! After trying on about 25 dresses and amusing the sales women, who were really patient and cool with me, I decided on taking home two different styles. One was on a deep discount and one at full price. You can find many cocktail and evening gowns here that range in price from 30 euros to 200 euros. They also carry shoes, purses and wraps (which you can buy 5 for 10euros!). Since it is the outlet store, many of the discounts are due to mistakes in sizing, rips, zipper malfunctions, stains, out of stock etc... But you can have everything fixed at the store for an extra price of course; however that takes awhile and I didn't have time to wait, or I probably would have bought ten dresses! Got my dress steamed and received a club card on the way out and I will definitely shop there again!

The shop we've been was in the former address at Schönbrunnerstraße. The owners received us greatly and we have bought many items of the shop specially a tea pot and other things for Christmas. Both mother and daughter speak a quite good English. That's a nice place to buy house decoration , chinaware and now as I've read in this site they have a special room for toys and that is amazing. There is a kitchen and table goods store downstairs across from the cathedral. Their stock was lovely but they had no dish towels. As we were walking back toward the hotel I noticed a sign across the street that said "Unique Souvenirs", so we headed for it. The first thing I saw was a black t-shirt w/ a rendition of Gustav Klimpt's "The Kiss". The woman who worked there found my size and then held up a shirt to "model" so we could see it out of the package. Mine! I asked her about dish towels and she told me they had them downstairs, took one look at my walking stick and offered to bring some up for me to look at. I very much appreciated her kindness. There were several patterns and colors in English and in German. The one I liked best was in German so that's the one we bought. They also have magnets, Mozartian rubber duckies and other tourist tchotchkes. It seems to be a single store, not a chain and the quality of their merchandise looks good. If you need souvenirs to bring back, this is the place for you.

Definitely beautiful to walk around, though be careful, those stairs are narrow and it's a tight squeeze if some girl is coming down with a mobile phone glued to her head. H&M is split on three different levels, menswear on the bottom and ladieswear and accessories on the ground and second floor. The layout is clean and, rare for all H&Ms in my area, very spaciously laid out. I did not feel crushed in an aisle. Racks are organized with room to move while still presenting the clothing well. It definitely has a boutique feel. Stock and sizes are limited because of the space. I saw fewer larger sizes than small and medium ones, though this could simply be because they go through merchandise quickly. Call ahead if you want a specific item. The shoes here are particularly small (not much larger than European size 38) and the accessories were pretty picked over. Upstairs and downstairs cashiers also help reduce lines, and the later evening hours are good for shopping after a day of sightseeing or working. This spot is very popular with tourists on Kaertnerstrasse and the Stephensplatz, so expect it to be busy. I had little trouble locating a salesperson when I needed help.
