Oh my goodness, this was another tour guide recommendation…read more It was just AWFUL. This is also a big tourist trap. They charge you €2 per person for the silverware, then charge you €0.50 for a spoon full of ketchup. We each had a container of fries to go with our sandwiches, so one small thing of ketchup was not nearly enough. Obviously, we ordered more, hoping they'd bring us a ketchup bottle. Nope, because they were charging for the ketchup, we didn't see that till the bill came. My daughter had the cheeseburger. According to her, she has never eaten such a dry, crunchy burger in her life. Obviously, she didn't finish because it was hard to get down. As for me, I tried the recommendation of the tour guide. Big mistake! The classic Florentine sandwich, the Lampredotto. I should've known better, but I'm willing to try anything once. It was a chew, tasteless, slimy sandwich. You can't eat it like a sandwich because it's so wet and soggy that it falls apart. You need a knife and fork. You needed the ketchup that they gave up by the spoonful, and still, it was tasteless. This is not a place I recommend to anyone. If you're used to eating juicy burgers, this is not the place for you.

We took it as a sign and decided we had to stop. The inside is surreal. U.S. flags, state license plates, hubcaps, neon everywhere, Marilyn Monroe in the foyer. Typical old-style diner seats, even a pinball machine in the corner. This place makes an Elvis shake (yah, with peanut butter and banana) and was serving up a special Thanksgiving meal today - we decided to go for burgers and shakes instead and were not disappointed. My middle boy had the 1950 DOC burger; I got the Juicy Lucy (purportedly a well known recipe from Minnesota - you learn something new everyday)... Definitely worth a stop if you happen to be wandering the outskirts of Poggibonsi and have been subsisting on pizza and gelato for a week or two...

10/10 -- The BEST Truffle Burger in Italy (Maybe the U.S. Too)…read moreMy wife and I did not expect to find a gourmet burger in Florence that beats major spots back home in California -- but this place did exactly that. The truffle burger? Hands down the best we've had in Italy, and honestly better than most in the U.S. The spicy garlic fries were insane -- crispy, bold, and addictive. If you're tired of pasta and pizza, this is the place you need. Service was 10/10, food was 10/10, and Alex delivered an amazing American-style experience right in Florence. Absolutely worth it. A must-try.

There is a nascent craft beer thing going on here in Italy reminiscent to what NJ went through maybe 15 years ago. Probably because there were few patrons here early on a Monday night we got a chance to speak at length with Mateo our beertender; a very nice guy. He was more than happy to let us sample several beers and even brought us an order of fries we didn't order. With 10 taps pouring mostly local "birre" and twenty something bottles of craft beer, if you are into the beer thing, I would definitely stop in.
