We have used Rick's Fencing over many years and have always been happy with the results. This time we replaced an old fence in the front yard with a brand new cedar fence top-of-the-line put in the front yard. It's absolutely beautiful. The young men who installed it were professional, well mannered, and friendly. It was installed right on time. They tidied up, raked over the soil and left the grounds perfect. read more

The entire experience was horrible. The finished fence isn't terrible. I am particular about the wood used so I had the salesman bring me samples of the two thicknesses they offer. The thicker one was rough sawn on one side which I didn't like, he said if I wanted it smooth on both sides, use the thinner board, so I chose those. I signed the contract and then never got an email or call even saying they acknowledged I had signed. I thought that was odd, so I had to call them to verify they got it. Day 1- Start time 8-9. Showed up at 8:15 The lead installer walked the job and saw the post-it note on his paperwork that said "One Day" and he had a fit. Was visibly upset and called his office. They had told me it was a three-day job, so I am not sure why they put everyone through this emotional nightmare at the start of a job? He then said they forgot the jackhammer, left at 8:30 and got back at 10:00. Tore down existing fence. Took off existing lock to reuse and put the lock and screws in the dirt of one of my planters. We talked about the boards for the fence and the company does not carry any smooth on both sides boards like the ones I was told I would have (and that I had a sample of). Day 2- Start time 8-9. Called at 7:30 said going to another job first, will be here after 1:00. I called corporate and asked why they weren't at my job and why they didn't have the boards I was bid on? The CEO said if they don't carry the boards I was shown, they just wouldn't finish the job. WHAT??? My biggest nightmare, the old fence is down and they are walking off the job. I was thinking I would go pick up the boards locally or pay the difference for them to purchase some. Nope, he didn't even want to talk about any solutions. I was beyond distraught at this point. The local branch did eventually go through their stock and try to find the smoothest boards they had and did say they would finish the job, but at this point I pretty much despise this company and what they have put me through thus far. Day 3- Dig out existing cement plugs- put dirt all over my flagstone patio. Cut wood on flagstone patio, sawdust everywhere- in beds, in grout, on plants, in the mulch, etc.. The driveway is 5 steps away and would have been better for cutting and placing piles of dirt. Putting down a tarp would have been smart as well. I had the drip system all coiled and tied up so there were only three places to avoid stepping, yet they stepped on the drip lines dozens of times, even though they could have been easily avoided. They also stepped on plants in the ground that also could have easily been avoided. Seems like they just didn't care about my property or my gorgeous patio area. I had decided on their metal posts and apparently, the wood rails are not thick enough for these posts, so everywhere a board goes on a metal post, that board sticks out farther than the other boards. It is very obvious on the ends which flair out. They said they would fix it, but it has been over seven weeks now and I have not heard from anyone. He said to give him a couple weeks. So much for the lifetime warranty Day 4- They tried to install my lock and it doesn't fit. So all these guys with all this experience didn't know that a lock that has had the stems cut to fit a 4" post, wont fit on the new 5"post? This left me without a lock over the weekend, an extra four days of worry about a break-in. I am baffled that everyone said my old lock would be fine. In the photos you can see where the boards flair out at the end of the fence, that every rail is cracked where the screws are (not sure if this is normal?), the pilot screws they put in the trellis but did not remove them or take them out and put the regular bolt in the same place, etc.... read more

I had a multi-level composite deck built last year. They sent a guy who had never built a multi-level deck and a new hire guy. My project needed both more personnel and experienced personnel. The center of my deck where two halves come together is not level, I found a wobbly stairway post that had been cut off then "fixed" with a plate and screws and other boards/trim pulling free of the decking screws they used. The company seemed to be over booked with projects and work was sporadic No supervisor came by to check the quality of their work or assist. I originally chose to live with my bad decision to hire this company, but I keep seeing TV ads now, and needed to comment. read more

Couldn't be happier with the final result. Our new fence looks great. The professionalism and attention to detail by Pedro and Johnny and later by Zeke and Elija was beyond reproach. Pedro explained the process each step of the way and didn't even flinch when we asked for a change in design. Highly recommended! read more

Our experience with Rick's was great. Kory provided detailed information on options, and on the spot estimates for the job. Brad and Andrew showed up on time, and walked through the project with us before starting work. They completed the project the same day and made sure everything was done to our complete satisfaction. All three were very personable and a pleasure to work with. I would definitely recommend Rick;s for fencing. read more

Just had 2 short fences with gates put on either side of the front of the house and we could not be more pleased with the craftsmanship and quality of the work. This is the 3rd time we've used Rick's and each time the Sales estimator and installers have been professional and good representatives of the company. Kudos to Parker, Ben Jr. and Tiernan. read more

We hired Rick's Custom Fencing out of Salem to replace our front fencing and gates. They did a great job. Tyson came out for the estimate which we thought was a fair price and Ben Jr. and Teirnan W. did the installation. All of them were both friendly and professional. The fence looks great and I would recommend Rick's if you are looking for a fencing company. They offer a lifetime warranty as well which is a big plus. Thanks!!! read more

We have a very large project deck Project done and they turned out beautifully!! Michael, the lead one the project, was great. He called to let us know when he'd be there. He also was easy to ask questions and discuss what was happening and timeline. I love the new decks and cleanup was perfect! This is the third time we've used Rick's over a 20 yr timeline and everytime it was been a pleasure. Thank you. read more

Over three years ago Rick's installed vinyl fencing on the side yards at my house. One side was excellent but the other had a poorly installed gate. We called Rick's three times to come out and adjust the gate so it would open and close properly. It never got fixed. The vinyl post near my home was anchored in the brick of the house and the post wobbled making the gate hard to use. It never worked properly, and the post broke away from the bricks. I called again. This time Art and Tilson came out. Art analyzed the situation, and they came up with a solution. Now the post is solidly attached to the house. The gate never worked better. Problem resolved, thanks to Art and Tilson. read more

Pedro and Jessfrey did a great job. Very professional and efficient. Communicated and resolved any concerns. Made sure I was happy. They worked very well together. I'm so happy with the results. Would definitely hire again. read more

Ricks provides a quality product, a competitive price and excellent service. Ricks installed our fence 10 years ago and it still looks great. Unfortunately, three of our post gave in to the elements and had to be replaced. Caleb and Eli arrived when promised and called ahead when they were on their way (one of my pet peeves). Both were competent and professional yet took the time to answer our questions. Ricks is a class act. read more

Ace from Rick's custom fencing did an outstanding job installing a Sherwood composite fence for me. I'm so pleased with the product & service. I will be a repeat customer when it is time for my new deck! A special shout out to Parker Bryant who helped me in the decision making/budget planning, and who was very patient when I had to switch plans a few times. read more

This is the 2nd time I've used Ricks Custom Fencing. The absolute best product and service around. Not a day goes by that a neighbor doesn't pass by and comment on our fence. You get what you pay for yet their pricing is extremely competitive. Huge thanks to Art and Kaden for all your hard work on our 2nd job. We truly appreciate it. read more

Since we are stuck at home due to COVID-19, my husband got tired of looking at our old worn out fence. He contacted Rick's via the website and received a prompt response. Serge Shust came out within a week to look, measure and discuss our options. Serge maintained more than required social distancing & was very respectful. A quote was in our e-mail inbox the next business day. We chose to take down the old fence ourselves. (Probably will let them do it next time!) A week later, as scheduled & right on time, Francisco Guzman & Eric Combes showed up. 4.5hrs later my 67ft of pretty vinyl fence was up. Perfectly level, straight & exactly as we wanted. Francisco was great! He explained how to maintain our fence, and possible solutions for when we decide to tackle the other 2 sides of fencing. Definitely a great company to work with. Looking forward to our next projects Rick's can help us with! read more

We've used Rick's Fence 4 different times over the past 20+ years and they've been fantastic for us; easy to deal w/; great quotes; on time service and good quality lasting product; we'll be using them again this summer. One thing that is nice is that if you want to do some of the work you can have them do all the posts and cross boards and put up the thinner vertical slats yourself...We did this last time and it gave me a good workout, saved some money, and still a quality looking fence. Keep up the good work and we'll see you when I get my stimulus check! We usually do the 3 sides of the backyard and two gates and a couple of times we did both sides of the fence but this time we're going to do 1/3 every 3 months or so as we have the $$ to do so....thanks again! You can also have them stain the fence but we do that ourselves. read more

We had Pedro and Jessfri working on our fence today. They were on time and showed professionalism and knowledge on their job, were respectful of our property, answered our questions and explained what they were going to do and why. Work was done quickly , clean and efficient. They also got rid of the broken wood and soil, so our yard had no mess after they left. We would recommend Rick's fencing services, the price was competitive and job was scheduled fast as well. Thanks! read more

Rick's Custom Fencing & Decking was wonderful from the bid process with Eli to the building with Jim and Nathaniel. Eli's bid was very competitve with 2 other Salem fence companies. He also did a great job checking back in several times during our decision making process with our neighbors. He was always willing to help in any way. Jim and Nathaniel did an excellent job laying out the picture frame fence, building it, and cleaning up each day. It was obvious they both took pride in doing their job well. They were both very polite and professional to work with. They checked with me daily to see if I was happy with the job being completed. I am a satisfied customer of Rick's Fencing company. Update: Job is complete and looks beautiful! While there was a few hiccups & frustrations, I am satisfied with the outcome. My unfortunate update: I had to knock off a few stars. It's been about 9 months now since our decks have been done. And while, yes, they turned out great, the job is STILL not complete. I have asked multiple times for them to come back and fix the 1 sagging wire cable (see pic), that has not been done and they even had to come back and redo a privacy wall that's on this deck (wasn't stable enough the first time) & they still didn't fix the sagging cable, ugh. I've even asked them to tell me how to do it & they said "no, we'll fix it"...& haven't. I'm sure they have just forgotten, but I certainly could not get away with forgetting to pay them. We were in need of a chain link fence. They were able to come out quickly for an estimate, and they were the soonest available to complete the job in town. They started and finished the job on time. Working with Rick's Customer Fencing and Decking has been an extremely positive experience. Ryan assisted with deck design for large front and back patio decks. The build/installation team (Nathan (crew lead), Mark, Nathaniel and Josue were excellent in working with us through the entire process. We had some adjustments to design as the project progressed and they were very flexible. Once work started, they stayed on the job until it was completed even though at times the weather was REALLY cold, wet and windy. We had some large planters and privacy panels that needed incorporated into the deck and Nathan designed a perfect solution. Shortly after deck design, we had gusts up to 81 mph (!) and the panels have weathered it without incident. The deck is top quality and looks beautiful. They checked with us throughout the process to ensure it met our specifications but otherwise were non-intrusive and concentrated on the task at hand. Clean up afterwards was also done well. While Rick's is not the least expensive deck builder, we definitely feel like we got what we paid for - good quality, on time, good design, flexibility. If we have any issues in the future, they have an excellent warranty and follow through service program. Highly recommended! read more

This is the 2nd large job that Rick's has done for us since 2014. This job we needed lots of guidance to start with and both Pete (via many emails and calls) and Cory (who did the onsite estimate) were extremely helpful. They were understanding and offered true suggestions to better help us to understand. Our installers were really good at what they do. Francisco and Ben were there when they said they'd be there. They explained everything that was to be done. They were very good about making sure we were comfortable with things. They helped us to understand when we had some questions. Most importantly, their work was top notch. Project was completed on time and we are very pleased and happy we went back to Rick's. read more

Our fence which Ricks put up 12 or so years ago is a disaster. Total eyesore to us and to neighbors. The panels continue to blow out, have had gorilla tape holding the panels in the slats. We had the fence installed to keep the dog inside the yard, but the fence has not served it's purpose. It continues to blow out panels during wind storms, the dog gets out, and one time the dog got out and was taken to the animal shelter. I would NEVER EVER recommend this place to anyone The customer service sucks and back after it was installed, they would not fix it to our satisfaction. STAY AWAY. Rick's Custom Fencing and Decking recently completed installing a new deck and an aluminum cable railing at our home. The installers, Nathan and Graydon, were professional and respectful of our property and plants while removing our old deck and railing, as well as during construction of the new deck. They were very knowledgeable and personable, went over all details of the project, and kept us informed of progress and schedules. We are extremely pleased with the completed project and with the professionalism of the construction crew. Jason and Jesse were my fence installers. The job was completed on time, on budget and really looks amazing. I was not able to be at the home on the day of installation and Jason touched base with me by phone to confirm everything was as planned. He was courteous and professional. He made me feel at ease about the fact that I could not be on site while the job was done. The installers had to work around some large trees and did so in a very tidy way. When the job was completed he sent me photos of the new fence. I live in Corvallis and the property being fenced was up in Portland, so it was important to me to have contractors that I could trust. This company was very professional and even offered financing. read more

We have been dealing with this fence company for months. Our fence was installed on April 1 of this year. By June, the top rails were curling up and the gates were warping. They came out multiple times, put in screws on the top rail along with the original nails, and replaced the gates which warped again. The last time they "fixed" the wood gates, it was in late August and the day they built new wood/metal gates, you could see the warping start again. (If the sun warped the first ones, what's the excuse for these? It warped almost immediately.) The last gates were metal instead of the wood and metal that were originally done. This being said, the old posts were left in place and full of holes from old hardware. The back gates were secured to the posts with hardware that went completely through the posts and out the other side. The main gate was secured with hardware that allowed for the gate to slip off. I mean, who does that? I guess that was the sun's fault too, since that's why they repeatedly say their work is warping. I'm from mid America that sees temperatures well into the low hundreds for several days/weeks in a row during the summer. Never had a fence last only 2 months. Finally, after waiting around on them forever, they came out, but only after a complaint was filed with the BBB. Amazing how I dealt with them for months and in less than 24 hours after filing a complaint with the BBB, they sent a crew out and finally gave us working gates hung on posts without holes. Long story short, I would not recommend this company to any friends or family. In fact, I'm actively telling my friends to avoid this company at all costs. read more

As most folks know, Rick's Custom Fencing & Decking do a great job. Today what I want to write a review regarding two of their employees - Dusty and Noah. They were working at a neighbors house when I received a rather large (work bench) shipment. I needed help lifting it off the pallet and installing the casters and these two great guys came to my rescue!!! When I asked for their assistance and that I was willing to pay them - we would be happy to help AND NO PAY!!! They helped me get it set up and you couldn't ask for two nicer young men. So, Rick's made an excellent hire with Dusty and Noah. Again, thank you thank you....this speaks volumes of Rick's when they hire young men like these two!! read more

We recently finished up a fairly extensive fence and deck project with Rick's at our home in Salem. The four stars are given rather than a five because of the rocky start at the beginning. There were delays from the start because of inadequate sceduling estimates to complete each phase of the project Each week the crew would pull off saying they had to go to another project. Finally under the lead of crew chief Anthony W., (an exceptional technician!) and store manager Ben, our project picked up pace, pulled together beautifully, and was completed to our satisfaction. I would only suggest using wood screws over staples long term... read more
