I was happily satisfied having taken two of my vehicles to Rick's Automotive for minor repairs. However I felt "ripped off" on my third experience. Keith gave me a verbal quote of up to $700 to replace the rear brake pads & rotors... a bit high I thought. However the final invoice was $400 more! And... the same exact parts were $250 more than at AutoZone or at O'Reilly Auto Parts. I learned an expensive lesson... always get a written estimate! Warranty: Regarding the markup of parts for a that 2 year/24,0000 mile warranty... most manufactures of rotors already offer a lifetime warranty for defects. Written Estimate: Essential to avoid miscommunication. Unless your installing windshield wipers... every single customer that is quoted hundreds of dollars for services should automatically be provided with a written estimate period! Cutting Corners: A reasonable assumption would be one in which auto mechanical repair jobs are inherently associated with areas of safety concerns. What jobs wouldn't be & how does that justify price gouging? Discount: If you suffered a foodborne illness after dining in a restaurant would you accept a discount or complementary meal for your inconvenience? read more

I have had good work done at Ricks a few years ago and I trusted them. My CEL VSC & TRAC OFF lights would not turn off. A free diagnosis from Autozone indicated a faulty O2 sensor. I brought that paperwork to Ricks and asked them to fix my car and anything else needed. Keith gave me a verbal quote of $695. Again, I trusted them from past service. Agreed to the verbal quote. The O2 sensor was replaced- CEL off. Unfortunately, VSC & TRAC OFF are still on. Rick's doesn't have the equipment to clear those codes/fix this problem on any LEXUS. They suggested I go to a dealer and try to get a free fix on an expired service bulletin/recall- no luck there. I'm happy the CEL is off. I'm disappointed that I didn't get a full fix especially when I was told they are a full service shop that day by 2 different people. Sadly, I should have insisted on a printed quote and I will from now on. read more

They were great about scheduling the repair and completed this complicated repair job in just a few hours for a very reasonable price. I really like Rick's. This is a small, friendly, very fast, and effective mechanic shop. There was no upselling stuff I didn't want. They just did the work that needed to be done thoroughly, though they also checked my car over and adjusted the tire pressure, and made sure that overall my car was in good shape. Have brought my girlfriends Ford Escape in here several times and it's now the ONLY place we'll go to. She's had a number of issues show up (brakes, check engine light, etc.) as her car has gotten older and every time we come in Keith takes exceptional care of us. I tried Rick's because the place I had used for nearly 20 years closed its doors. I was thrilled when I was told the service would only take 1 1/2 hours. I just went up the street, had coffee and waited. I was very pleasantly surprised when i received the bill. I have never had such an inexpensive service. However, 2 days after the service, my battery died (for the third time in a month.) I called Rick's to see if they had checked it and they said yes. When AAA came, their equipment said my battery needed to be replaced. It had said the same the thing the previous time, but the battery I needed was out of stock. I decided to wait for a service. My battery died two blocks away from Rick's and about five minutes before they closed the garage for the evening. Keith still came out to help me, towed my car up to the garage, and got back to me promptly the next day after running a bunch of diagnostics on my battery. Well, Rick's Auto did it again. Dropped my car off in the evening. Keith called the next morning saying symptoms implied thermostat replacement and gave an estimate. I said, "Go for it". He called a few hours later and said all the system needed was a flush, saving over $200! While driving me to pick up my car, my neighbor told me she recently learned her trusted mechanic charged her for parts replacements when all they did were cheap fixes. When I was on the east coast, the Mazda dealer told me that they no longer made the part that I needed to repair my 2004 Mazda transmission. I had to go through a whole ritual every time I started my car to get it going. Keith said that he could fix it and did so for a reasonable price. This place and these business owners are like a needle in a haystack. It can be so incredibly difficult to find a garage that you can fully trust. There was something about my interactions with them right from the beginning that put me at ease and gave me confidence. They got me in quickly and really seemed to know their stuff. They called me just a little while later to let me know that I actually didn't need any work done on it, that the list of repairs that a larger chain of auto repair shops had urged me to allow them to take care of for me, at a high price of course, were completely exaggerated and unnecessary. In fact, they couldn't find anything that needed replacement or repair, even at my insistence that there must be something on my '89 Chevy van that needed some work! I was shocked at their complete honesty and unwillingness to take my money. My van had been making this horrible clunking sound that had convinced me something was terribly wrong and that the aforementioned franchise shop was correct in providing me with their laundry list. These guys found the source of the clunking, something so very silly and minor I am embarrassed to even mention it. In any case, they fixed it in a few minutes and only charged me for the time they had to take to investigate all the issues which turned out to not be issues, which wasn't much!! You guys rock!
