Writing another hospital review which I'm using and experiencing our medical system again. Richmond Hospital is located on Westminster Hwy & Gillbert Rd. It opened since 1980 and looked so new and clean. Based on 2 times visit experience, I have quite different experience of it. I went to ambulatory care clinic for Intravenous (IV) Iron Infusion, the nurse (Mary) was so care and professional. She was cheerful and detailed. The 2nd time was just ok. The nurses were chatting to each other and checking on me occasionally

They were super busy, still managed to find me a bed in the Day Surgical Unit Recovery Ward bed 12. Thank you so much!

I was writing reviews in Yelp just like other people - trying to be a critic on most restaurants, businesses, organizations or entities that provide services & cater food & labor that we like or dislike.... Well, this one is a little different I should say, it was written on a patient's bed in the Richmond General Hospital with my heart felt experience. Deep inside me I always respect the health workers, be it doctors, registered nurses, physiotherapist, nurse interns, care takers and the paramedics... just like I always have a crush on girls who can play piano (Level 8 or above). Oops, I went too far! Let's back to the point. After a couple of incidents I took my doctor's advise/ referral to go for a CT scan in RGH after the CNY long weekend, they sent me to Emergency ward which was super busy then right after the CT as they didn't like what they have seen (some breeding vessels in my brain with BP150+...) Anyway, long story short, 28 hours later I am here typing my iPhone keypad on the bed that they managed to squeeze for me. I tried not to worry about the outcome or the consequences (may be my last review) but I am grateful to all the personnel get involved, they were all so professional, so tender, loving and care to every single patient as far as I could see and hear. The food/meals from the kitchen may not be the best taste, the bed may not be the comfiest as your Simmons or Luxury Gel memory foams. But I am talking about their work ethic and attitude here! For that I rated RGH 5 any given time of the day. All day long Take care yourself, Yelpers!

I should select Zero star, but no this choice. Terrible experiences in this hospital. I got threats from their staffs - if I would not pay them before the surgery, they would not perform the surgery. I made complaints to their Patient Care director, Rich Dillon. What he replied me is that they followed their policies, protocols, and best practice standards. Shame on them. Not even have basic ethical/moral standards.

It's full already! RGH ER

This time, I have mixed feeling. Super negative and super positive…read more It started super negative. I have known this hospital has tricky layout and made me confused...and 8 years later, still tricky and more worse. The ceiling is kinda low and I felt like being in a maze. I wanted to have an ultrasound over breast but they kept telling me mammogram first. I didn't understand why but as it's their protocol, I had to follow. So I checked in mammogram test but until the technician got suspicious about I was in the another mammogram test room and I was another "Mari" (there was another same name patient!), I had no escorted by receptionist. The technician for mammogram was super kind and friendly. After we finished testing, she asked me if I had time. Of course! Then she set up ultrasound test right away. That was wow. Because I didn't have family doctor's requisition either. Both test results had nothing suspicious. I was very happy that my long day ended positively.

First off, its very hard to get ahold of someone here if you need to call them. The nurses though…read moreare very nice and friendly. It's smaller than the other big hospitals, and the wayfinding is confusing. The signs are not the clearest and the different entrances are dispersed with no main road signs indicating directions for the different entrances other than emergency. Tends to be cold inside.

He's always available when we need a check-up, and we especially value that he doesn't overprescribe antibiotics or create unnecessary panic. I do not recommend this clinic. I've been a patient for maybe four years and am on a non-optional…read moredaily asthma inhaler, on a daily essential thyroid med and a prescribed daily ant-acid. The doctors at this location do not prescribe more than 3 months at a time - as I was advised when I asked two weeks ago why I wasn't given refills for my essential meds for more than 3 months when they were renewed 2 months ago. This has not always been the case. I appreciate now that during COVID all is mostly being done over the phone. Two weeks ago I called in the morning for the renewal for my files so I wouldn't have to cut it close around Christmas/New Years for medicine renewing etc. I was told Dr Chu would call and when he did I asked why I had to call again for a renewal for these meds which haven't changed. The doctor didn't seem to have any of my info and seemed impatient. Dr Chu asked if I've tested my thyroid. It was nice he asked as no one at that clinic ever did - when I asked they only ever vaguely said it was only needed to be tested every 3 years? When I had seen the specialist I was tested every month or so. I had to then ask for the life lab test requisite-he said he would renew the prescriptions and do the requisite for the blood test then hung up. No prescriptions have been renewed and there's no way to know if the requisite was sent until I try to get the blood test. At the beginning of the call I was taken aback at the way the doctor spoke to me when I asked why I was having to call back for renewals while having concerns with Covid making things more difficult. I've since gone elsewhere as my boyfriend goes to a clinic with more sympathetic doctors who don't needlessly require unnecessary calls for unchanged essential medications. This other clinic has already sent renewals for on file and the LifeLab requisition since indeed the last test was Aug 2019.

A Ten star rating! I checked myself into St. Paul's Emergency with a tightness in my chest, back…read morepain, and shortness of breath. Yep all the symptoms of a heart attack. I cannot say enough about everyone I came into contact with from the volunteers who helped me find the way to the Emerg, to the registration lady who so patiently took my information. Everyone seemed only there to help me get looked after. Even the security lady gave me her seat when there were none available. Next came the nurse who took my vitals and had more questions. She was dealing with a 60 something year old, scared guy. She was the first health professional I met, and she seemed to care a lot. She set the tone for everyone else. In the ER, I encountered Dr. Clarke. One of the most sincere, caring physicians I have ever met. More questions, more pokes and prods. I felt I was in great hands. Next came a nurse to draw blood. I never felt a thing. Just eye contact, and a laugh. Just the right amount of humanity to alleviate my stress. I met Ben, a nurse, who injected a bit of humour along with Nurse Devin. Everyone seemed to be there to just make me comfortable. They can't know how much they helped. Met the coolest ER doctor I could image next in Dr. Green. He would fit in on Grey's Anatomy. He was the senior MD. Just enough interaction to do one thing, he gave me the confidence that everything is under control, that the team was getting closer to figuring this out. Off to X-ray where get my heart checked out with an ECG administered by one of the most patient, caring technicians ever. I continued to feel everyone cares. Never a number, not even a patient. I was someone who needed help. Off to X-ray for a better look. Guided by Nurse Ben, handed off to an X-ray tech. Carefully positioned, to get her shots. A touch on the shoulder to say we're done and a kind word as she told me how to get back to the waiting room. Can you see the pattern here. Each and every person I came into contact with did their best to make me feel comforted. Back to ER where Dr. Conley told me my ticker was fine, lab results were great, that I have some muscle damage to my ribs caused by the fall I took which kicked this while thing off. I was released with great instructions, some follow up tests, and a much lighter heart! As I was leaving, my phone went off, it was Nurse Devin. I was being paged. He had Dr. Green on the phone in a second. Upon closer study they found two cracked ribs from my fall. More instructions, more compassion. If there was a way to give a 10 star rating, I would. This ER team, and my experience with them could not have been better. Thank you health professionals at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver! Greg K.

Good and bad experiences with St. Paul's Hospital. Operations, scans and personal health situations…read moreare handled by the doctors and nurses with exceptional care. Had to return to emergency. Lay on gurney for hours, no pillow offered, no water offered and no doctor ever attended. After waiting hours, I checked myself out. Week later I returned to emergency and did get a bed in palliative care. Conditions are terrible. Due to construction of the new hospital, there is much neglect in the Burrard Street hospital. Nighttime is freezing, nurses are wearing bed quilts around their shoulders. Patients are bundled up with a hooded jacket and quilts to keep warm. Conditions are not ideal for patients that need special care and attention. I hope because of the lack of upgrading and support in the Burrard location we don't have a similar situation that is happening in Alberta where patients are dying waiting in emergency rooms for medical attention.
