Some Terrain shops (the smaller ones inside Anthropologie stores) are limited to dried flowers, indoor plants, and accessories and garden tools, but they have larger stores, including this location in Glen Mills - their flagship location. It opened in 2008; it has a nursery, a huge home store (decor, candles, llighting, food, gifts, garden gear, indoor plants), a fafe, a greenhouse... Whether you're a gardener or not, Terrain is fun to explore. If I could give zero stars and still write a review I would. I went to Richardson's today with my husband for my annual Mum shopping spree, and I mean spree. We chose two very large Mums for our front porch, and intended to choose about a half-dozen more for the flower beds, and two large hanging ones. Richardson's had only one girl working, who was somewhat helpful, and the owner was there. The girl that was working was trying to assist us, and a few other customers. The owner was socializing with an old high school chum (I could hear them reminiscing). At one point, I tried to take a large hanging Mum down from a bar that was near where the owner was standing, and I asked if he could help me because it was heavy. He said he was busy with another customer, and told me to wait for his employee to help me. At that point, I went to find my husband, who was inside picking out the smaller Mums for our flower beds. The sales girl was still busy with another customer, so I told my husband we were done, that we'd go elsewhere. If the owner doesn't want to help customers, he should stay out of sight. When I got close to our car, I turned and went back to share my disappointment, and he could have cared less. We will never go back. We've spent thousands there over the years, but never again. Wow - I just read the other reviews - after posting mine. I guess I'm lucky this guy didn't want to talk to me. At least he didn't drop the F-bomb on me, but my husband was with me. Oh, and the owner was busy chatting up his old school chum, so he didn't want to look bad to her(maybe). read more

Flowers and selection are worth looking at, but the owner and customer relations of several staff are quite possible the worst I have ever seen. We've been coming here for four years to compliment our landscaping. Take note: have any expectation of taking some time to speak to staff, consider your options, or looking around for more than 5 minutes, be prepared to catch an attitude. Specifically from the owner, the more mature man with white hair and a beard. How he can run a business with his brash, belligerent attitude, should be back house. Asshole. read more

The quality of the plants and the prices of them are amazing. After a few times going to bigger stores like Home Depot and Lowes, I kept getting frustrated by plants dying weeks later, and it wouldn't be until I tossed them or that I tried to repot them to save them that I realised the ones I was buying at big stores didn't even have root systems! They had been propagated from larger plants and just shoved in wet soil. The plants I bought at Distinctive Gardens are strong, healthy, and the roots are already coming out of the beginning pots or off of the plants themselves. Also, I assumed a small, independent business would be more expensive (and had finally talked myself into that "sacrifice"), so to find out it's actually CHEAPER than the big stores is so exciting! I don't know how they do it! They've got a customer/plant addict for life.

The Garden Shoppe

This is to review Garden Shoppe's seasonal produce. (We have yet to experience the plant nursery…read moreitems.) We'd seen this place many times when stopping at Braxton's for pet food. Finally tried them for veggies the other day and we were really pleased. We normally get non-organic produce from Gentile's in Newtown Sq if/when it's decent quality (prices can't be beat, but quality is sometimes lacking), or we trek to Wolff's in Media for better quality (which you pay for there). What made the Garden Shoppe helpful to us is its convenience to the nearby Acme and Rite Aid we use, and the quality we got for the price. Quality can sometimes be on par with Wolff's, but with lower prices than Wolff's. They did not have the selection of the Wolff's or other larger produce stores, so expect what one might find at a roadside produce stand, not a full market. But for basics, they filled our need very well. One complaint was the corn. Places like Wolff's will normally let you husk it there, and if you get a half-brown dud, you don't end up paying for it. Wolff's has a lot of pride and does not want to sell you something like that. At the Garden Shoppe there is no means of husking, and we have ended up with 40% of our ears in really bad shape (half the kernels missing, worms, rot, etc.), so if they could set up a husking station it would be a great relief. For the other items, though, we're glad we finally tried them, and are sorry we didn't do it years sooner.
