When I asked them to fix the mistake, the repairman blamed my ligature - until I showed him my technique on the low range. Only then did he fix his mistake. Deciding to take my bass clarinet here was an equally bad decision - the exact same problems happened. I am currently a clarinet performance major so I do know what I am talking about. I do not expect the level of expertise that a clarinet repair specialist has, but replacing pads is an extremely basic task - if this can't be managed, what can?

We were quickly greeted by their tech, Derrick, and another salesman that made frequent check-ins to see how things were going. Every time we visit the shop for something or need help with her trumpet they have the parts and service that we need - a couple years ago I lost a small important part for the trumpet and when we went to the store to ask for help they went above and beyond and gave us the part we needed for free. The store had one acoustic bass, which was decent, and several electronic drum kits to choose from. I walked back and fourth from the various rooms for probably an hour to see if anyone would offer assistance. You're probably wondering why I just didn't ask? As I entered the store, there were at least 6 people working and having conversations with other people browsing the store, and the employees who weren't occupied with customer service were greeting families and people who weren't me with a hearty greeting and "how can I help you?" I can't support a business that treats people unequally. You don't like how I looked, and maybe thought I was just a homeless dude looking to beat the cold, or some basement dweller looking to shred stairway to heaven and leave and not buy anything? I've been a loyal Music Makers customer for several years. I love doing business with the helpful,…read moreknowledgeable staff because they make every visit a pleasure as well as a valuable learning experience. Owner Dave Plunk is truly a man of integrity and kindness. Here's one example: Last year, when I was hit out of the blue by a perfect storm of unforeseen expenditures, I found myself in a "too-much-month-at-the-end-of-the-money" situation. I brought in some equipment to sell and I was prepared to accept pretty much any cash offer. Dave paid me a surprisingly generous sum for the items - far more than I would have received from Guitar Center or a pawn shop - and I was able to make it to my next paycheck without having to sell my plasma to a blood bank. :) I stopped in today just to get picks and strings and, as usual, I ended up developing a torrid crush on one of the new guitars in stock - a Fender California Series Redondo Player acoustic-electric with a flashy metallic lime-colored finish (Fender calls it "Electric Jade") and mahogany neck. It had no price tag so, having recovered from last year's little fiscal crisis, I inquired about the cost. Dave quoted me a very reasonable price but quickly added that if I bought it today, he'd knock a hundred dollars off. "SOLD!" I said. It was just one more in the long list of satisfying experiences I've had at Music Makers. Though I had no doubt whatsoever that I had done quite well on the deal, out of curiosity, I checked to see how much internet retailers are charging for the same guitar. Musiciansfriend.com has a used one for sale, with some minor blemishes, and it's going for $20 more than Dave charged me for a brand new one! I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who is looking for musical instruments, live sound equipment or lessons to go to Music Makers. You'll be glad you did.
