Fortunately, Cat's Whiskers is one of those places. This hair salon is bright and cheerful, and well decorated to boot. It all speaks of a successful business that cares about its appearance, but knows that too much severity (I think we all know the type of salon I'm referring to) will scare away the poor customers. The service here is genuinely friendly, for all appearance they actually care about what you have to say, rather than feel obliged to talk to you while they work. I'm not a huge expect on hair products, but the ones they stock and bright and reasonably priced, and the products used during the cut left my hair soft and smelling of almonds. That said whilst good at the basics, I wouldn't have anything too drastic or adventurous done here. The décor is very basic, and I can find the place a little cramped (there's not much space between customers). Ah, Martin, how my unruly hair adores you…read more You'd think that long layers would be an easy cut to master, but you'd be surprised how many stylists manage to chop off too many inches and then flatten the remaining locks with a straightening iron. Not here. Martin, the salon's owner, prices haircuts by his hands at a reasonable £40 - and he cuts it like I would if I had the skills! It's refreshing when a stylist listens when you make a request, but has enough knowledge to talk you out of a bad decision (like when I wanted fringe and Martin promptly, but politely, explained that it would be very hard work with both natural curls and a cowlick). I can't comment on the beauty treatments offered, but as it's right around the corner from my flat and the prices are competitive, I'm definitely booking my next one here!
