Without going into a lot of detail, I have a corporation, several small businesses and the need for a lot of coverage and various policies. My insurance agent of decades sold their practice, the company that took over was asleep at the wheel, and I discovered a lot of exposure and careless errors. I was on the hunt for an excellent insurance company to manage my portfolio and Darren from Whins has been amazing thus far. My excellent service started not with an attempt to convert my policies over so that they can make a commission, but rather getting on the phone and making sure that underwriting had the proper information. This is without them trying to make a commission, just simply making sure that I, the client had the best solution for my immediate needs. That speaks volumes to the integrity, and basic work ethic of the company. I'm still early on in the process but as I migrate my portfolio over, I am getting better coverage for less money, again, that wasn't the original goal, but I am certainly delighted. I have been with Mercury Insurance for many years and until now I really have not had any problems but I have to say that I am so disappointed in their behavior that I had to write the review. Due to COVID we were not able to work and we lost our home and had to stay with my daughter in Alabama. I called Mercury to transfer my account coverage but they did not have coverage in this state. That was on 9/8/2020. My agent Hilda assured me that they would refund me for the days that I paid for and did not use. She said it takes about 10 days to process. 30 days later no check, however they reached back into my account after I had cancelled (over the phone and in writing) and took out an additional $506.00 for an additional month of coverage of which I did not owe as I had cancelled weeks prior. I called and they said they had just started processing and I would get $210 back for the original difference. I told my agent that's great but you just stole an additional $506 out of my account. I also told her that it has been a month and a half already. It has caused me so much distress because as I mentioned - not working so - no money. I needed that money for bills and food. I am a heart transplant patient and can not work during Covid. I just want everyone out there who reads this to know that Mercury Insurance will steal your money. Don't use them or allow them access to your account. They don't care about you or your family just padding their own pocketbook. I have yet to see my refund of $506 or an apology for their theft.
