I am in the midst of my ten series and I must say Rich is amazing. My reasoning for coming in was chronic discomfort in my right pectoral muscle and my entire right shoulder joint from a previous injury. Not only did Rich loosen and make it feel better, I haven't really had that discomfort since. And my knees! They have not been cracking since session 4. I will definitely come back for fine tuning. * update.... I have been immobile for 6 weeks with a broken wrist and had to cancel all sessions. I got my cast off yesterday (1/20) and saw Rich today (1/21) and it is probably the best thing I did for myself. With an injured shoulder and broken wrist and immobile for 6 weeks is painful. I came in today somewhat out of whack. Huge thank you for making me feel human. I can move my shoulder and my wrist is so much better. Still a road to recovery but I'm sure I'm ahead if true game! Thank you, you are amazing!! Update:2/22/16 I literally just completed my ten series this morning. My experience has been an adventure , educating, new, fun and so many other positive things. My original reason for coming in was to try something new, and I had an issue with my right pectorals. I went thru a few sessions then had to put on hold because of injury. Here I am a month after I got my cast off, and I am healed. I am aligned. I am in a new body. The feeling is indescribable , something one has to experience to get it. After finishing my 10-series with Rich I cannot believe the changes in my body. I told Rich before we started I felt like I was trapped in body armor. As a former dancer and athlete it was miserable losing so much flexibility and feeling so stiff and unbalanced. Rich has given me back my body. I am able to take dance, Pilates and yoga class and I feel 15 years younger. This work continues to expand and release in the body after you finish the 10-series--unlike traditional massage. I used to suffer sciatic pain in my butt and i would not be able to sit down in my car as it would hurt. Understandably the pain was debilitating. I had tried physical therapy, acupuncture, massages, supplements etc with minimal results. I did the complete 10 series with Rich. I had tried Rolfing with another practitioner before, but I didn't finish because I felt the Rolfing approach was a very standardized one-size-fits-all approach to bodywork that doesn't make any allowances for the individual. Furthermore, it was expensive, and the results never lasted more than a few days. I went in to see Rich for a one-off issue with my left shoulder, right hip, and I really liked Rich's very non-traditional approach to Rolfing and bodywork. He asks me where I'm feeling imbalanced, he observes me in motion, and then he adjusts his approach to whatever issues I need addressed. The best part? The results of Rich's bodywork lasts. Where do I begin. Rich is the man! I've tried everything from deep tissue massage to ART to help my shoulder primarily. I am in the midst of the SI Ten Series with Dr. Ennis. This series of 10 weekly 75 minute appointments in the cornerstone of Rolfing. Already I feel much more structurally aware. I feel much more anatomically aware, in my movements and posture. Rich's experienced eye notices minute movement patterns that will have a pronounced cumulative effect. Rich's background in science led me to trust that Rolfing is 'evidence-based' medicine. Rolfing works, and the reason you have not heard about it are the same reasons behind how Obamacare got this far: you are misled to believe that allopathic medicine is the only 'proven' modality for disease and/or injury. It is more profitable for the large corporations (and the politicians they fund) for you to take pills than to see someone like RIch. Rolfing works. The cost of the 10 series is worth the enhanced alignment and posture. I came to see Richard due to pain in my right deltoid and shoulder from flying trapeze. I had seen chiropractors and massage therapists. After one session, the pain from my shoulder was gone and my flexibility in that joint improved. I found that during my next training session, the pain did not return. I continued to do the 10-series and found the coordinated sessions to be very beneficial to my body. In general, I no longer felt pain in my shoulder. I learned awareness for my body's alignment. After 10 sessions, I feel that i have a more aligned body that will continue to improve even without further treatment. Before rolfing, I could hardly go for a walk around my neighborhood without experiencing pain and discomfort in both of my knees. I spent nearly three years seeing different orthopedics who all threw my out the door with yet another prescription for physical therapy, medication regimens and suggesting surgery. Rolf, Ph.D. My experience of completing the 10 series with Rich was life changing and healing on multiple levels. After suffering with chronic inflammation of my bicep tendon (tendonitis) for close to a year, I decided to seek out Rolfing as an approach to realigning my posture in order to create the conditions in which my body might be able to heal. I noticed immediate relief within one session with Rich, and prior to the completion of the full series I regained full use of my shoulder. Rich's skilled work brought balance to my body, and the positive impacts of Rich's work have extended beyond what I ever would have imagined. I recall the sense of amazement with the sense of freedom that I felt in my body and my breathing after just the first session. It was as though I went into the session with rust throughout my spine and left with a sense that my spine and ribcage had been oiled to allow incredible fluidity of movement. Prior to the session I had not realized how much effort it had been taking my body to simply breathe, and I had not imagined the my torso could find more freedom and flexibility as I have an extensive dance background and regularly practice yoga. The sense of awe that I experienced after the first session was continually replicated with each successive appointment. I noticed tightness and tensions disappear throughout my entire body as each meeting created the conditions for my structure to come closer to a place of balance. My shoulders, hunched forward from years of sitting at a computer moved back and down, my collar bones opened up, and I learned what it felt like to be able to sit and walk upright. The chronic pain in my neck then disappeared and in its place I began to experience greater mobility and length. My turned-out feet began to effortlessly face forward, which took pressure off of my knees, hips, lower back, etc. The benefits kept building as the weeks passed, and flexibility and ease of movement were continually restored. At one point in the middle of the series I experienced what felt to me like a miracle. After severing the tendon under my right big toe and having it surgically repaired nearly 18 years ago, I was left with little sensation in the ball of my right foot. Moreover, the healing process had created a new pattern of weight distribution in my foot that I continued until my work with Rich. Through a combination of Rolfing and the use of a cold laser, I was not only able to evenly distribute the the weight in my foot, but I was also able to feel more of my foot than I had felt in nearly 20 years. I remember standing up off the table and walking as tears of disbelief flooded my eyes. If this had been the only benefit that I received from my 10 series it would have been worth it. The way that I walk, run, and balance have all radically improved. The exponential benefits that I experienced from my 10 sessions with Rich have dramatically improved my life and created the conditions for healing that I did not know was even possible. The positive changes continue to unfold; I feel greater ease with movement, and my energy has improved as I am not losing energy from inefficient use of my body. Moreover, I have been surprised that several people in my life have noticed that I seem taller and more streamlined in my stance and gait. I completed my ten series with Rich a few months ago, and would highly recommend his treatment. I have multiple past injuries from many years of soccer and long distance running, and had been compensating in my movement patterns for a long time. I had developed chronic tightness in my left groin, hip, and trunk. Throughout treatment with Rich, he helped me to understand and visualize these compensations. I feel that I am able to walk better with more optimal alignment, and am much more aware of my body in space. The Rolfing also helped to ease up some areas of tightness, and I had significantly reduced right shoulder pain with swimming, and less discomfort in my left groin with walking. Rolfing is amazing, and Rich does great work! I went for a misaligned tailbone and came out of the 10 series with that fixed along with many other things I didn't even know existed. I had had vein work on my leg a year ago and there was a large area that was still numb. After working on that spot for only 10 minutes, the numbness was immediately gone. Rich also worked on a previous shoulder injury that I wasn't aware was a problem, but feels so much more open and fluid now. I also got my nose straightened!! My son broke it a while back when he threw his head back and since has been a little crooked. Never knew all these things could be fixed by rolfing!! I highly recommend rolfing for so many benefits. Rich is really into the research aspect as well so he is always learning new things that can be helpful to each client. The nerve work that I have seen and heard about is incredible. Whether you have back pain, sciatica, bulging discs, or just a little misalignment, this is for you. The best part about this is that it doesn't just temporarily fix things, your body actually stays this way. As opposed to chiropractic or massage work that just moves things for the time being. Rich is also very honest and has a great science background for this. But when I asked why this works and why your body doesn't return to its previous state, he gave me some science-related answers but also-- 'it's not quite certain why this works. I was new to Rolfing (but not deep tissue massage), and signed up for the 10 series with Rich. Rolfing itself turns out to be much gentler than the hype surrounding it, or at least Rich is very gentle. He is less intense (pain-wise) than a deep tissue massage. I want to get that out of the way first: I was anticipating 10 sessions of grueling body work that I would have to suffer through to feel better, but instead it was more pleasant and really a long series of fine tuning the body. In essence Rich analyzes how you walk and stand, and aligns everything better. After the first 3 sessions I was already walking with ease and standing more properly. I had specific problems of knee, lower back, and neck pain from Triathlons, and Rich alleviated most of that after the full 10 sessions. In addition, Rich helps gives you guides on how to re-examine your posture and walking stance, and keep the alignment after the sessions are over. Rich is super gentle, and very intuitive. He definitely zeroes in on your specific problems and removes long term joint and muscle pain. Before Rich, I was unable to get on my bike without lower-back pain, and now I enjoy my rides without pain. I have such a high opinion of Rich's gentle healing powers that I sent my mom to see him. She has experienced a huge change in her range of motion, and reduction of hip pain after only 3 sessions. Because of his schedule it's not easy to get an appointment, and I initially had to wait over a month for our first consultation. But it was well worth it, and after 3 months I felt like a new (or maybe younger) person. Rich has been an amazing help to my family of 3 over this past year. FIrst my husband went to him because of plantar fascitis and back pain. Part way through the series of 10 rolfing sessions, one day it struck us both how many things he was able to do that he couldn't before...swim without shoulder pain, walk, run and play tennis without foot pain, and SLEEP without waking in pain. Wow. Now my my 21 year old son started with Rich too, and it's been so great to hear him say he feels more relaxed and that his chronic upper back pain feels much better. I myself have had chronic pain for 15 years and have begun to rely on Rich too.
