The Northen Quarter market is on Stevenson Square and is quite small but all the stalls are selling good quality stuff and it's well worth a visit especially if you're a foodie or into vintage. There was an excellent handmade chocolate stall, a stall selling gourmet marshmallows, a place selling macaroons as well as cheese, vintage clothing, handmade jewellery and furniture stalls. The Soup Kitchen were also there with a Jamaican BBQ and there was a street food place selling wraps and sandwiches. A great way to spend a lazy Sunday.

Found this farm shop and cafe by pure chance and it has quickly become one of my favourite places…read moreto eat a small snack or meal at. The farm shop is quite small but they sell their own beef (mince, steaks etc), lamb (chops etc), eggs, veg, pies (beef and cheese and onion), sausages as well as local preserves and chutney. Their main business is their cafe, which has a fantastic selection of small snacks (sandwiches, tea cakes, homemade soup, cream scones etc) to larger meals including salads, all day breakfasts, homemade beef and lamb burgers and daily specials. The food is all either from their own produce and meat at the farm or locally grown and sourced when possible. You can taste the difference and all the food is fresh and tasty. Their selection of cakes is fantastic, all home made and yummy. Last time I went they had crumbles, fruit pies, chocolate biscuit cake, sticky toffee pudding and many more I can't remember. But the one thing that I adore the most about this place is their own homemade ice cream! It is the best ice cream I have ever come across, it's not overly sweet and the flavours are great quality. The choice is huge and changes nearly every week but they can include: cherry and yogurt, strawberry cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding, hot cross bun, double chocolate chip, chocolate mint chip, strawberry, toffee fudge, sherry trifle, grandma's special (sweets perfect for kids), farmhouse vanilla, cookies and cream, liquorice... the list goes one. They also do sobets. As well as this huge selection you can buy cakes to take home, anything that's in the cake counter as well as homemade scones and cookies. It has a large outdoor area for kids to play with lots of toys and slides while adults can sit nearby in the sunshine watching the nearby cows and sheep in a field. The whole place just has a wonderful, friendly feel. Only caution I would suggest is if like me you don't have kids and like a bit of peace and quiet, either go early (before 12pm) on weekends and avoid on bank holiday Mondays as it gets very busy with families.

The stalls are centred around the wine jug at the top of the road. All in all the stalls are there and sell your basics of a farmers market. There is additionally a bit now in the civic centre slightly further up the hill but this is mainly focused on arts and craft types with the odd food stall thrown in for good measure It stretches the legs on a Sunday morning . But parking can be an issue

However it is still predominantly a vegetable shop and although it now sells sausages and bacon it doesn't have an extensive butchery department like some farm shops. However what it does it does well. A good variety of veg, lots of it local including potatoes that still have some soil on, hurrah! They aren't slavish to the local theme though and also supply more exotic fruit and veg from further afield. They also supply chutneys, sweets, posh crisps, jams, pastas, rice, milk, cream, and the wonderful Cartmel sticky toffee pudding. There's a great selection of local Lancashire cheeses including Dewlay cheeses from just down the road and also good quality cheese from elsewhere in the world such as feta cheese and mozzarella. Along one wall there's a large selection of bird food and feeders which ties in with there being a small gardening section alongside the shop. All in all a great farm shop which offers fair value and a good variety of stock without erring too much towards garden centre style overpricing.

I didn't actually believe that anything substantial, let alone good, could take place in the small rose garden outside of the bar, The Arc, in Headingley. It just looked too small. But when I went last weekend it was like the space had magically morphed and increased in size! There were stalls selling organic vegetables, fruit, cheese, local wine, local meat, cakes, bread, Indian food, eggs, even a stall selling plants from a nursery in Pudsey. They had some pots of raspberry stems but I was on my bike so I couldn't get them home. Fortunately, I got their card and might pop along during the week to pick some up as they were a good price and I know they will work on the allotment as they have been grown in Leeds. Besides the market stalls there was a live band! This made it for me as usually at farmers markets you want to linger a bit but once you've made your purchases can't really find a reason to but the band was the perfect Saturday morning entertainment. With stalls selling tasty organic vegetables, free-range eggs the size of your palm, fresh fish and meat, artisan cheeses and a whole host of seasonal, local treats, this market, held the second Saturday of each month, turns the weekly shop into a day out in its own right. There are always plenty of free samples to taste, and with each purchase helping to support local farmers and keep your food miles low, stuffing your face has never felt so good!

There is always an excellent mix of stall here selling produce such as sweets, plants, coffee, cheeses, specialist sausages, specialist meats, beers, smoothies, cakes, black & white pudding and much much more. Many of the stalls have free samples to try and the smell that emits from the market is delicious. The produce on sale is often more expensive than you would find in supermarkets but this is to be expected. The produce is of an excellent quality and you wont find many of the specialist items in supermarkets at all. This is a great addition to the Lark Lane community.

Drinkers mill about with students - presuming there's a difference between the two - and "dedicated followers of fashion". What a perfect place for a farmers market. This market, held on the last Saturday of every month, is bigger than its counterpart in Woolton Village, although it does suffer slightly in comparison as half of it is on the edge of busy Aigburth road. A great plant stall selling lovely and unusual bushes at very decent prices greets those who enter the market from Lark Lane. The kind of stall Woolton is missing out on. There's myriad cake and bakery stalls selling pasties, pies, pastries and bread and the ever present Savin Hill Farm meat stall, which sells sausages presumably butchered in Heaven. Last time I went, today (28 August), there was a fantastic flower stall with some of the sunniest sunflower bouquets I've ever seen for a mere £3. A very good place to visit every now and again, but it rarely changes, which is a shame.

Unlike a lot of markets that are owned by local authorities this one is privately owned. I feel the owners have missed a heaven sent opportunity to increase trade whilst Urmston is having such a large rebuild going on. They could have encouraged shoppers back but have failed to do so. it is on a bit of a downward spiral sadly, lots of the stall holders have gone, the ones left (well a lot of them anyway)seem disheartened, disinterested and almost without hope. Today, I wanted to see if I could get a pair of cheap flat shoes. There was no one at the shoe stall, the guy was looking bored and I had to ask twice if I could try the shoe on(the answer please yourself didn't inspire any desire to spend) Anyway, they were too tight. When I asked what else he had I was shown a pair of shoes that your great gran would be offended if you bought her!! We did buy a cheap watch for hubby to wear at his new school(he's a teacher NOT a student!!), some cookie cutters(a weakness of mine) and some veg. This COULD be a great market. That it isn't is a real shame.

The farmer's market held on the last Saturday of each month is a great place to get most of your…read morefood from. There are plenty of stalls indoors and outside the centre. The one thing you have to try is the ostrich burger with cheese and onion - yummy!!! This is sold on the stall which is situated right outside the centre by the entrance. The stall also sells fresh ostrich burgers+frozen to put in your freezer, ostrich eggs, dusters, meat, sausages. Indoor stalls include a great mushroom bonanza (loads of different mushroom on sale), breads, cakes, meat, sausages, a variety of vegetables, honeys, wax products, leather products such as belts, purses , chocolates, soaps Outside there is normally a van that sells a variety of fish, pancake stall - yummy pancakes freshly made in front of you, bird tables, plants, meat As you can see - there is a variety of products on sale - plenty to choose from. Great atmosphere and even better location - Bakewell is a beautiful and busy place with loads to offer.

There is ample parking as you would expect. The meat is local sourced and of an outstanding quality, I can't believe I used to waste my hard earned money on cheap supermarket meat, the difference in taste is all too obvious. The veg is also local sourced and surprisingly cheap, the veg will stay fresh for much longer than supermarket bought produce. The shop also sells local bread, orangic squash, chilli jam, chilli sauce, eggs, preserves and other organic produce. The Staff are cheerful and are always happy to help.
