Nearby is the school's popular soccor field. A soaring airplane occasionally drops by. The mornings are full of walkers and joggers in small groups. The late afternoons and early evenings have families using the amenities of the park. Bikers and skate boarders get their exercise too. Most people are respectful by wear masks and keeping their distance. The trees in the park are amazing. Throughout the year the trees provide shade and shelter to the birds and squirrels. In the fall the trees change colors. This is a nice park to visit.

The bathrooms were clean; the park itself was clean and free of lose trash and debris; there were plenty of benches to enjoy the scenery and to relax; and paved walk ways to take a leisure stroll and enjoy the tree-lined Olympia Fields streets. The park is large enough to not feel like people in various areas are to close or infringing on your space. There is also a covered picnic shelter which is good if you want to rent the park for family events and such. I also like the wide flat area so that you can let the kids run free or you could have structured games for your events. It's definitely one of the better parks in Olympia Fields.

It just about is as close as you can get to Indiana. Beach of course is the best part about here. The rest of the park has some gardens and hiking trails. Either in summer or winter it's a beautiful place for hanging. It has a few big parking lots. There's plentiful parking meaning it's usually easy to find somewhere. Beach is the most notable feature. This goes along a few miles. Certainly it isn't always pretty around here. There's some ugly old factories, including those across the lake in Gary, but besides that it's beautiful mostly. Be warned about the nuisances here, which include birds and bugs. It's especially bad in the summer. This park is most happening then and has features such as athletic facilities and other fun things.

There are also fenced-in tennis courts for those that play that sport, and the courts have the added attraction of being lined out for pickleball games. This is small compared to the larger parks for sure but it's still plenty enough space. People like to come here and walk dogs. There's also pretty good playground equipment so this is family friendly too. It may feel a little sketchy at times but generally there's not much trouble around here. Nichols Park is named in honor of John Fountain Nichols, an artist and lifelong resident of Hyde Park. He was a student at the SAIC and took part in creating artwork for the federal government during the Depression. He also was a teacher on the south side and championed the revitalization of Hyde Park. This park has a gym, tennis courts, two fountains, field house, and lots of green lawn. There's also a community garden here, flowers and veggies for all. Playgrounds, a baseball field, and more round out the offerings here. If you need parking, there's plenty of it around here.

I first went to this park 10 years ago when I was 18 for the 4th of July fireworks. This time I took my baby brother who is 12. Parking on holiday: There was hardly any parking but we did park across the street in the parking lot for the small children play park. The walk across the street was not long at all, but making it thru a ton of people was. safety: In today's society, it is not so safe to be outside anywhere in Chicago or the suburbs of Chicago. With the firework bombs and loud people I was kind of shaking siting in open field because of all of the mass shootings happening here. But On the 4th of July there were plenty of police but that did not stop the teenagers from running in the crowds with M-80's bombs. They did catch the "cool" teens who kept doing this but it still scared the daylights out of the younger babies there. Fireworks: The firework show was exactly 20 minutes long and worth the wait and mosquito bites. The colors were big and vibrant! my brother couldn't take his eyes off of it. They were so close it looked like you could touch them. they were very beautiful! I recommend bringing your family, but keep them in eye reach.
